Bloody hell Arthur, you would be moaning if he stayed at the club because he was condoning the political views of Di Canio, who is a self confessed fascist. Good on him for not wishing to condone the political views of such a man.

Wonder how much a first class ticket one way costs to America, and how long it would take us to have a whip round to buy one for Arthur to go with Miliband to America. I've got £30 to start us off.....

Can't help....I like my money..I don't even spend it on me..and I like me lots :)

How pathetic can this news be.

Due to De Canio views freedom of Speech, David Miliband he resigns. I always believed that Labour had a proud tradition of freedom to say what you wanted.

Go on David get on the next boat or plane to the USA

Arthur, you don't seem to understand what freedom of speech is about - Di Canio can espouse fascist views, Milliband is free to disagree with him, and take any action he sees fit (including resigning, thus making himself financially worse off).

Or is freedom of speech only allowed for those who agree with you? :dozey:

Good one from BBc site

Murray, Norwich: "Well it's gone 12pm and the Sunderland board still haven't announced 'April Fool' so the Di Canio appointment is clearly going ahead..."

100k a year for 15 days 'work', good riddance to him, if I were a Sunderland fan that'd upset me more than a load of nonsense from the last century by the new manager.

Way to go to miss the point....

btw, the fascist salute was in 2005, which was the year he described himself as a fascist...

Paolo Di Canio: “I’m not a Fascist” (but Italy would be in a ‘better situation’ under Mussolini)

Is Paolo Di Canio still a Fascist? Right now, he is not saying because he only wants to talk about football, but there is a rambling interview in a 2002 book West Ham: Irons in the Soul by Pete May (available as an e-book) in which he can be said to have answered the question:

“I never said I was a fan of Mussolini but for the media it is more easy to make the polemic. I said that after Mussolini no one political man was a patriot or a nationalist because nationalism is not equal to being a Nazi. English people are very proud of their nationalism too; my nationalism means you are proud because you are Italian…

“In Italy if the right or left win the election they don’t think in three or four years time we will give the people a better society… They don’t think tomorrow we are going to work for the people, they think tomorrow we start the publicity for the next election. They have no vision. With Mussolini I’m sure we would have had a better situation, but not in a wrong way, not with a union with the Nazis because I am not a Fascist. Then was a different time, nobody wants war, now we want peace…”

“Black or white or yellow people, gay people, men or women, they can come to my house and be my friend because I am not xenophobic.”
