There is always a choice involved, making the right choice is the challenge.

So stoically accepting that it has to be done and not running away is a sign of bravery my friend.

Yep all of them apply, that's him alright very succinctly put, but then after 40 years I'm so used to it, but I wouldn't swop him, bless him.:)

In Tescos this morning I asked if there was anyone serving on the tills, this was followed by a long discussion among the staff before one of them 'volunteered' to do it.

Yes l know exactly what you mean Tinky when one goes in early to the supermarkets and there is usually no one on the till and my partner generally comes to the point very quickly by saying well if l ain't served soon then l will leave the trolley here and go somewhere else and of course that usually stirs them into action pretty quickly we find.

Bad vision in right eye for month due to haemorrhages and now having to get a Vitrectomy on it at the end of the month.

Not looking forward to it.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

Went to see my mum in hospital the other day. She's not able to explain anything much and I hadn't been able to chat to a nurse or doctor on my previous visits and wanted to get some information on her condition so went up to the nearby nursing station. At least 10 staff were standing or sitting around doing various things, including laughing and chatting. Nobody made eye contact with me at all or asked if they could help, not even the 3 staff sitting just behind the reception desk who just carried on with what they were doing. Eventually an older woman came by from along the corridor and asked if she could help and then spent about another 10 minutes trying to find the ward nurse or a doctor for me to speak to. Luckily after about another half an hour I was able to speak briefly to a junior doctor who explained the situation very politely. I'd have been happy to wait but it would have been nice if someone had at least acknowledged I was there in the meantime.

Nearly had a heart attack today, when I found out because of a cock up by a previous employer, my tax code had been changed from 1100 L to 335 L. After a quick call, got it sorted out but it means I have lost nearly £100 in tax this fortnight that I can ill afford to lose.

I was told that once my employer receives my new code, it should be refunded on my first wage payment after they update it on their end. I was just cross because I had no communication from them, despite them saying we sent a letter in January, did you not get it? Er, if I had I would have called BEFORE today to sort it out.

So many moans. Been a long time so here goes.

Missing work, despite all I moan about it I am really missing being there.
Changing insulin, sucks because used to injecting once daily now once weekly.
Aspartame, thanks to the Government and sugar crackdown every drink I like has Aspartame in it, apart from the full version of Coke and Pepsi. Meaning I am stuck as to my drink choice.
Not going to Portsmouth today, because of the Aspartame situation I drank way too much and as a result suffered a REALLY bad stomach because of it.

Good luck dilli.

And myself, well I am getting paranoid again about work. Nothing added to my schedule for May 7th onwards. I'm hoping it is due to bank holiday weekend meaning people aren't at work doing things like scheduling. However, I have a deep worry that I am being got rid of and they haven't told me.

I was, but applied for literally 12 jobs a week since end of March and not heard a thing back from any of them. So much as I hate the workplace (job is brilliant, it is just the hours that I am sick of, among other things) I need the work otherwise I have no money.

Best of luck Dilli and everyone else who's going through tough times at the moment. :tu:

My pet hate for the day? People who are so lazy they can't even bother to squash large items like cardboard boxes etc. when they put their rubbish and recycling out for collection. The result is overflowing bins/containers which look unsightly and tend to overflow littering the street and gardens. One of our neighbours is so stupid that he can't manage to follow the fairly simple recycling regime here and every week leaves refuse bags on the front lawn which contain waste food. Result? These bags get torn open by foxes every week and the contents then spread all over the place by them, local cats and the area's magpie contingent. At least he clears it up a day or two later but in the meantime it looks a mess and it'd be far easier if he did what everyone else manages to do and put his food waste in the secure containers our LA supplied for the purpose. It's mind boggling really.

Difficult times Den. <<<hugs>>>

Every moment is so precious and the memories you and your friend's family have of the next weeks and days will mean so much to all of you in the future. We found that photo albums and music played a big role when we were in the same position. Those shared memories of happy times still bring back happy memories of our friend's last smiles and even laughter in what was a hard period to deal with.

The average is 2 green bags per fortnight around here, but one small family puts out 10 or more! All just chucked into the bags without crushing or folding.

Ugh, I wish I had been able to land another job this month while I've been off (not for lack of effort, I have lost count of the applications I have sent out) because the management are taking the absolute Michael. I was put on a job for this Thursday, I was going to do it but then got a hospital appointment so cancelled it, in plenty of time too so I wouldn't be falling foul of the no show policy, and then when a week had gone by and not taken out I emailed the Area Manager, telling him I wasn't available to do the job. He took me out. Wake up this morning, and there's an email from the AM telling me (and a few others too) to confirm the job. AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Over the page was a Autumnal scene, I said "How many leaves are there" :D, she replied in a looking over glasses look, "Uncle, do it properly".

That's why they do the ads though isn't it? To ensure people double check their mirrors for bikes as well as cars.

I tend to stick to email wherever possible now when dealing with stuff like this. That way there's proof of when messages have been sent and how long it was before they were replied to. There's often very good reason to want to have written evidence of what has been said/agreed should a dispute arise later.

All good now Osem just waiting for things to be approved for my Mum to get a ramp. The social work department have now done a site visit and been given quotes from companies they use. I was informed today that they do not see an issue giving my Mum's health, then hopefully it should not be too long for my Mum's wheel chair ramp to be fitted then we will be able to purchase a Electric Wheelchair for her at the moment a electric wheelchair is just not a option due to the weight of it and access.

In the time being we a looking at other options to make things easier for my Dad to push the chair up the driveway and a power pack for her current wheel chair seems a good option I found this on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wheelchair-.../dp/B00IXHU6CE and I'm sure hubby will be able to fit this no problem plus it's a lot cheaper than the £700-£800 we were being quoted for it at our local mobility aids shop.

I'm just grateful that we have a department within the council that can supply wheel chair ramps as my parents driveway is very steep so we would need a zig zag ramp and the prices we were getting quoted was well out our budget.

I would welcome any feedback on this power pack maybe a member knows someone who uses something similar or has experience of using one themselves. What I am looking for is something that can be put on and took off with little effort as the wheel chair still needs to be light enough to get down two steps as it is my Dad who is 80 years old who pushes the chair.

Glad you're getting it sorted weenie. :tu:

My pet hate for the day? Hacking wall tiles off!!! Grrrr...

Mind you at least I can say I stuck them on very well last time around I suppose. :)

I've got 3/4 of the old tiles off now, removed the old adhesive and made good the original plaster where necessary. I've left the area around the shower tiled for now so Jnr can use it up until the last minute. The tiles are coming end of next week so I'll be spending the next few days planning out exactly where I'll be putting them. It's been ages since I did any scale drawings so it was nice to measure it all up today and draw out the installation on paper for a view of what it'll look like.

We saw our close friend today this afternoon for quite a few hours and he seemed to be quite chipper compared to 2 days ago when we saw him and we were just talking about old times a lot and it was nice to see even have a little bit to eat and drink as he is hoping to go to the hospice soon where hopefully his family can bring the beloved family dog to see him several times before he sadly passes away which is very likely to be in the coming weeks.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

Not sure if I can class this as a moan, but I will because IF it happens (a massive IF because I doubt it will ever happen) I will be having to stay away from home Sunday to Wednesday. We count ASDA, where they have several flow leaders (basically people telling others where they are going next, etc) and they have recently promoted one to a supervisory position and another has left for some reason, meaning they have 2 vacancies in flow leaders.

One of the managers who runs ASDA said to me in an email that my name was mentioned for one of the flow leader jobs. Whilst I would be daft to turn down what would be seen as a promotion, I don't really like the idea of being away for 3 nights, sharing a room with people I don't like. Ugh.

The final decision comes down to my favourite Polish manager, and she told me when I mentioned that ASDA were trying to take me that I wouldn't be moving to ASDA because Waitrose needs me. So I guess the moan there could be that I am not getting the flow lead job. Oh I am so confused and conflicted.

Cats - The legal issues of trespass and fouling

What is the law relating to cats fouling?

There are no specific laws which relate to cats and fouling.

The law of trespass

The law relating to the trespass of domestic animals is contained in the Animals Act 1971. However, cats enjoy a unique position as the Animals Act 1971 does not apply to them. A cat cannot, therefore, in law trespass. As a cat cannot trespass its owner cannot be legally responsible for what their cat does outside of their property.

Chicken manure pellets scattered around drive our local cats away. Especially near the Kiwi Vine that they like to munch on as it has the same effect on them as Catmint.

I don't know Smurf. Kitty got the fright of his life this afternoon when he toddled up the drive for his usual crap. Very satisfying.

Doubtless be'll soon get used to it, but a potato gun is the next surprise for him :) I think i'm being very humane tbh.

My idiot of a neighbour.

She cannot park a car to save her life.

She parked behind my dad's Zafira, and yes the cow is touching the bumper. The behind hers wasn't their when she pulled up.

Best of all their is a wheelchair in his boot.

The other week a guy left a space which his Ford Ranger 4x4 had been in, she parked her car half on the pavement.

She need to be made to retake her driving test or best of all banned.

Sorry to hear this Den. My old man was on morphine patches right up to the end and these were changed every week so he had very little pain. Obviously the circumstances with your friend could be quite different but it might be worth finding out if he hasn't got these already.

If we're going to watch people slowly die in such circumstances the least we can do is give them all the pain relief they need. Luckily my dad's real suffering only lasted a few days but for some its far worse.

I hate people who park like that! Let's just hope one day she parks like that only to find that someone has did the same to her and touched her bumper then she will be stuck till either the car in front/behind moves then and only then she will learn to leave space. Is that bad of me wishing this on someone?

Den I am so sorry that your friend was without his much needed pain relief, can the palliative care team not supply oramorph. I know the palliative care team my Mum has leaves my Dad a syringe of this to give my Mum if needed I'm sure it is 5ml but will check later on when I go back over.

He is on one of those pain relief syringe drivers containing liquid morphine Osem which when it runs out makes a alarm noise which they knew would happen at a certain time and still he had to wait until someone arrived with some more 6 hours later as he needs it continuously because of the terrible pain he is in..

You would have thought there would be a back up supply but sadly there is nothing of the sort according to his family as his wife was extremely unhappy with what transpired very early this morning as anybody would be.

I'd be tempted to get into my MP and the chief executive of the NHS trust or whoever else is in charge. Threaten to get the papers involved too. That shouldn't have to be done but it's what I'd do.

I would imagine because it is morphine they won't leave backup supply, in case a. they are addicts who will use it or sell it (not that I am saying that den's friend or any of his family are, this is just a general answer) or b. someone knows somehow there is morphine in the house and they break in to steal it to get high or sell on for money.

Sorry I have just reread your post den and never read it right so I just assumed your friend was at home under palliative care the same scheme as my Mum and that is why I posted about my Mum having this medicine at home. My Mum has what is called a just in case box and it exactly that just in case my Mum needs further pain management and I must it admit it gives us peace of mind as it was explained that often out of hours GPs have no access to palliative care medicines so this way my Mum has this medicine just in case further pain management is needed.

If I were your friends relatives I think I would be emailing The Patient Affairs Manager at the hospital and bringing what happened to there attention and what reassurances can they give that this will never happen again as this was extremely distressing for all involved and that under no circumstances should ever have been allowed to happen to anyone and especially someone under palliative care.
