He can only find out what his insiders are willing to share, and they are only willing to share what they're allowed to tell him.

so what you are saying is that these insiders are not telling him about these new HD channels because they are not allowed to, I mean why are they not allowed to, what is the big secret, lol.

Virgin rarely tell the general public things which aren't confirmed. If these HD channels are indeed planned for launch before Christmas, they're no doubt still in the contract stages, so nothing is certain at the moment.

Well lets say for instance one of the channels is sundance hd virgin wont vlurt it out because i would feel sky would jump in and try to get it first.

If this is coming from CS reps then take it with a large pinch of salt, they have been bleating on about xyz HD channels coming for ages.

And ESPNA have now sorted out their widescreen flag and the picture quality looks superb.

Three local radio channels has today been axe on Virgin TV here in Scotland.

http://virgintvmediaboy.blogspot.com...cal-radio.html

Has anymore been axe as well?

If so do tell on this thread.

Wikipedia says the following Radio are broadcast on Virgin TV - more info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...Radio_Channels

NOTE: Local Radio channels is only in Ex-Telewest areas of Virgin TV on Virgin Channels 930 - 950.

Oh no, here we go again.

There has been speculation here before as to what the next set of HD channels we get might be (Discovery, History etc.) which was added to with the news of a potential Disney deal.

Neil had to give a conservative estimate of when more HD channels might materialise but the target launch may still be before Christmas. However, it's better to pleasantly surprise than to disappoint. Hence the apparent secrecy.

Whatever HD channels we get and whenever we get them surely isn't that important in the short term unless you're in the throws of deciding to jump ship to satellite or might buy a HD TV and sign up to the VM HD service if your favourite channel was about to become available in HD on cable.

Sorry Felim, think you may have misunderstood my comments if the sarcasm is aimed at myself. All info I have posted today has been paraphrased from the web cast to investors by Neil Berkett at 1pm today. None of it is idle speculation and untill proven otherwise can be taken pretty much Verbatim. Yes more HD channels would be nice before Crimbo but it is not a problem if there aren't any and you are indeed correct in saying people should not jump ship. All i am trying to do is stop any CS chinese whispers being taken as fact when even the CEO's intention is not to do anything significant until next year. BTW Felim I promise this is not intended as a dig as you a generally a very level headed person. :Peace:

My insider has told me that The local Radio Channels on Ex-Telewest in Scotland being axe is maybe due to Virgin trying have the same channel lineup in every area of Virgin TV.

So If you are an Ex-Telewest viewer can you go to Virgin Channel 930 (up to Virgin Channel 950) and see if your local Radio Channels on Virgin is still broadcasting or showing an on screen saying ''This Radio Station is no longer broadcasting on Digital TV platforms in the UK''.

NOTE: I know that Radio Channels from BBC Radio are still live on Virgin TV in Scotland.

I wonder, regarding HD channels, whether they've gathered all the data from that e-mail survey they sent out a while back yet.

I'm sure that will have some bearing on what new HD channels we get, although how much of an influence is anyone's guess? As I'm on the M TV package, this is all hypothetical for me anyway :) .

MB-too, I was just going for the Roll Eyes without the Sarcasm this time ;) and it wasn't aimed at you. I was trying to avert another three months of what, when, if not, why not dialogue here about upcoming HD channels. There's a seperate thread for that now anyway.

So, we look forward to the new HD content but will be disciplined and patient and it will be a nice surprise when it arrives.

Why won't Santa tell me what I'm getting for Christmas so I can buy the matching socks?

Thanks for the compliments  MB-too.

WRT analogue switch-off, the post to the newsgroup has pretty much left me back at square one (i.e. the posts from SpiderPlant and Media Boy). See virginmedia.support.tv "Analogue switch-off schedule" for the full thread.

My own tests did reveal a fun result though ...

Quote:

I am aware that analogue in Aylesbury is shown as having been switched off a year ago and, having now found my Belling-Lee to F-connector adaptor, I can confirm that the only viewable analogue signal on the cable is a 'GHOST' screen saver (Happy Halloween?) on C28 527MHz! I'm also getting a solid black screen on S03 120MHz (formerly BBC News) but this may be because that frequency is being used for something else now as an auto-tune did not see it as worthy of storing so it's probably a non-TV signal I'm seeing.

Off topic: Next time there's a Soyuz launch, point your UHF aerial skyward and tune to S41 463MHz SECAM. I believe that they have a 10Watt TV transmitter on board although I haven't tried it myself yet.

Aha! I wondered why they were bothering with 'new look Hallmark channel' announcements for the autumn season if they were going to rebrand in a few weeks. I presume NBC Universal must have renewed the licence to use the Hallmark brand then.

Have to say that is a good move, I know a lot of Asian families tend to go with Sky so they can get some Asian channels in one of the packs and then tend to pay for one of the Asian packs.

Number of channels has jumped from 299 to 312 and number of streams has gone up to 33 (the first increase in a couple of years I think). So what's new or coming soon in those additional 13 channels and 2 streams?

Looks like VM have added some extra capacity, the last time they did this they used it for the HD channels

How many BBC and ITV regions are there?

MEDIA BOY with the new channels testing and the regions that still does not add up to the 13 channels the FELIM DOYLE has stated on her post ?

Or with ITV1 HD channel going to be launched could this be it as well for the regions . Also could it be for the HD channels that they have sent the survey out for if people would pay for as how many streams does it take to host HD channels .

I think the BBC One, ITV1 and Channel 4 are just testing out the new streams but I think Virgin Media may add BBC Two Scotland, Wales and NI to everyone in the UK.

From reviewing the original post linking to Electric Magazine and some other research, I am expecting selected programming in 3D on some or all of the various Channel 4s: C4 (S4C), Film4, More4, E4, 4Music, T4 during this week as well as in TV Choice On Demand > What We're Watching from Tuesday 17th.

---------- Post added at 13:33 ---------- Previous post was at 13:21 ----------

Is it me or is there less information on the EPG of late? Episode titles are missing for series, films don't have the lead actors and production year listed. What's going on? If anything, I would hope that more information would be available on the i button these days with scrolling of the information box for extra details.

A few years ago when I complained to VM that the i button text was being truncated they said that it came that way from the EPG supplier and they had no control over it.

Is there a better thread to discuss this in? The Search facility doesn't like short phrases like EPG or 3D.

it because virign is a closed system they get information from epg supplier they tend to just cut out the information and give basic ifnormation which tends to eb none, if they where open liek sky the channel could update the epg themself with more ifnormation that why i use digiguide since it provides the estra information i require

AC, how's family life?

Some questions ...

The information I mentioned used to be available but has disappeared in recent weeks or even days. Films always had the year and lead actors and series always had the episode title. So why has the EPG supplier stopped providing this? Has the EPG supplier changed?

Why is the EPG supplier not taking the information from the channel anyway, if it is available? Why is the supply of information different between VM and Sky? Where do FreeView and FreeSat fit into this open/closed model?

What is DigiGuide and how can I use it seemlessly with my VM V Box?

Actually, the VM On Demand is now listing the Chuck 3D episode since my last post. so they've started early!

I didn't go to any 3D movies in the sixties but I did see the Michael Jackson 15 minute or so Captain EO 3D movie at Disney in the late 80s, so while it's not that much to get excited about, I'm curious to see how things have progressed.

Apparently 3D cinema was aimed at attracting audiences away from distractions like TV at home or, maybe, roller disco a couple of decades later! Cinema has had somewhat of a comeback in recent years but may be having a slump again just now. Will 3D, widescreen, HD TV and BluRay DVD be the death of the buttered popcorn industry?

Had quite a bit ofa scare last week, he took very ill and they suspect he had a blocked and might have ot be operatored on, but in the end they put it down ot server tummy bug so much for breast feeding being best!!!!

I dnt know if they have changed supplier, but i do know the ones that they where using are lazy and if you want the better informaiton you have to pay them about 30 times as much so i suspect virign have been told oyu want the current information you will nee dot pay x amount probally twie or three times as much as before or there strippign it for faster epg

Second that on Digiguide - I have been using it for at least a couple of years - it costs IRO £10 per year and in my opinion is well worth it. Mind you the way I have things set up my computer is next to me in the lounge and permantly on so it is very easy to look things up.

There are some great features for searching (for example when the last batch of HD channnels came out I was able to run filters that showed me exactly what programs on what channels were going to be in HD and then produce a list of the programs).

You can download a 30 day free (fully functional) demo from their site. www.digiguide.co.uk

Virgin Media only carry Magic 105.4 on Ex-NTL and Ex-CW areas.

And also on Ex-Telewest in London area. But the non London local GMG Radio channels was removed from Virgin weeks ago.

Am I right in thinking that you are in Ex-Telewest area outside London?

It part of the ongoing thing that Virgin Media are doing so that everyone can have the same channel lineup.

But Virgin are still Broadcast Magic 105.4 on Ex-Telewest in London due to that channel is being broadcast on Virgin Media in Ex-CW and Ex-ntl areas right now.
