Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Is anyone else having issues with the Comedy Central HD EPG? In my experience, this channel seems to have the most problems on TiVo.

My Two and a Half Men & Threesome series links are set to new only and yet seems to record every showing throughout the week even though the repeats do not have a new tag. The only way to stop this is to not delete the show after I've watched it so it forces the box to use the 28 day rule.

Is there anywhere to report issues like these as and when they come up?

Or just correctly prioritise your series links. .

I don't record things I don't want to watch, so all my recordings are equal priority.

Also, changing the priority order seems to take tivo a long time to process, so deleting the padding is probably quicker. The point is, if the hadn't made such a hash of implementing default padding, and done it properly, everyone would have been happy.

V+ got padding spot on for me; it dropped it completely when necessary. So the vast majority of the time your shows were padded,

I've had no serious issues with zero padding on tivo, so that's how I will keep using it.

Re. Comedy Central EPG:
I've had the same, but even by not deleting the episode didn't solve it. I ended up with about 10 of the same episode as they were all just generic Two and a Half Men with no episode info at all.

Comedy Central are only providing generic listings to Tribune for South Park (new), Two and a half men (new) and Threesome.. it's a known issue.

Thanks DF, I had noticed the descriptions have been the same every week for a while. As long as someone is aware/looking at it then it's not a major issue I suppose.

You can't rely on the HDMI auto-detect picking up all the resolutions... mine never does. Tell TiVo specifically which resolution you want by going to Settings -> Video Output - Video Output Format and using the Test Formats option. Any modern 1080i/1080p capable set should manage all of them.

When it's done that and all the resolution boxes are checked, deselect all but the one you want to use (in my case I use 1080i, as 1080p is only 25Hz and all the channels look jerky). Best way to go, in my experience.

Oh, and don't forget to put your TV into Screen Fit or Just Scan mode so you don't get overscan on the HD channels, cutting off the edges of whatever you're trying to watch. No point having a HDTV if it's not setup properly... seriously, I've seen some so badly configured that the results are worse than going into a CRT TV!

It doesn't quite work like that.

TiVo works on a "first add, first record" basis. This means the first show you add as a Series Link is considered top priority, and each one after that has a lesser priority. If you want to give a recently added Series Link (or Wishlist) priority over an older, higher one or generally change the order to make sure your favourite content is always at the top and doesn't get ignored in favour of lesser priority ones when more than three things are set to record:

HOME button, then My Shows & Recordings -> Manage My Series Links. Number 1 on that list is highest priority, with each show below that having lower priority the further down the list it is.

When reorganising this list, be prepared to see the Please Wait... prompt for several seconds (or minutes, if your Series Link list has lots of items) while TiVo makes changes to the scheduler.

I know how tivo works re priorities. And emboldened above is the long processing time I was refering to.

By using zero padding, I rarely have to go into manage my series links to deal with the priority system tivo imposes on us ;)

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Ah... all depends on the style in which you use the box, I suppose. It's good that it can be used in various different ways. ;)

I wonder if the updated YouTube app is broken, as some have said. If it is functional I hope it's been reworked a bit, because on the current non-Google one if you press Info while watching a video there's a blue menu that's clearly a relic from the original TiVo Premiere HD that was missed while it was being reskinned in red for VM. :D

15.2 software updated this morning.
Seems much quicker.
PIP now works on Sky, and I've got rid of the dreaded PIN

I did all that last week Z but all other formats are unsupported on my Evesham TV. Shame as Sky HD and my WD Live Hub media player were fine in HD.

Thank you for trying to help anyway, much appreciated.

Damn man, that is a shame.

It's probably a silly question, but are you using a fairly recent HDMI cable of version 1.3b or above? I'm no expert when it comes to the HDMI standard, but I have read that in order to ensure maximum compatibility you need a version 1.3b cable or above, and obviously for the devices at either end to have similar versions of the HDMI port.

Yeah, tried 3 different HDMI leads and Virgin tried 6 different Tivo boxes before they could find one that would even output at 576p :(

Update received in Plymouth this morning. First impressions very good! Box definitely much snapier and so nice to turn off the dreaded pin for recordings. Having the Sky channels in the mini guide window improves the user experience too. Can't say I'm really noticing much difference in SD picture quality though, minor improvement maybe.
