MUTV doesn't broadcast on any platform in HD so it isn't going to launch on VM unless VM subsidise it.

Infact in the entire world I think there is only Benfica football club that has a HD channel, and they do show other matches and sporting events as well to subsidise that.

a516: BBC to launch BBC Red Button 2 in June?

The extra red button stream is permitted to be on air by Ofcom from 16th June to until August 4th.

MUTV HD, now that is a thought lol

Not sure there is enough coverage to make it feasible, but MUFC should be able to afford the tech needed to do it. Maybe it's a cost they don't want to make.

If the TV rights were sold like they are in Spain and MUTV could show all of the games, then I'm sure they would definitely broadcast in HD.

I take it, this is gearing up for the new Sports HD channels?

2-3 weeks? That's a bummer, was hoping to watch the Monaco Grand Prix next weekend in beautiful HD :D

DS Forum is reporting that the new Sky Sports HD Channels are testing.

Media Boy HQ thinks they will launch by mid June.

On the new Sports Channels numbers I also think it will be:

Plan A)
•519. Sky Sports 3 HD
•520. Sky Sports 4 HD
•521. Sky Sports News HD
•522. Sky Sports F1 HD
•523. EuroSport
•524. EuroSport HD

Or plan B)
•501. Sky Sports 1
•502. Sky Sports 2
•503. Sky Sports 3
•504. Sky Sports 4
•506. Sky Sports F1
•508. Sky Sports News
•511. Sky Sports 1 HD
•512. Sky Sports 2 HD
•513. Sky Sports 3 HD
•514. Sky Sports 4 HD
•516. Sky Sports F1 HD
•518. Sky Sports News HD

Plan B seems better organised, VM probably won't go for that then! :D

I don't quite agree with all of this. If all you are interested in Premier League football hence canceling in the summer then you'll probably only be interested in SS1 & SS2 any as it's not on the other channels.

The main draw over summer is cricket, F1, tennis and golf. Aside from cricket (which is pretty much exclusive now to SS2) if you follow these sports you are the target market for SS3 & SS4 in the summer months.

It would favour VM to have these channels now which is why I doubt it is VMs pref to delay.

However I note VM are offering the whole collection for half price for 3 months at the month. Does does throw out a few questions. Maybe SKY support which promotional pricing to VM in order to mutually get in more business but retain HD to have a USP this summer. They did it last year and I assume that was in the run up to BT sport launching in order ti take away momentum.

That's a fair point. (I must also stress that that this was only conjecture on my part, I haven't been told anything to this effect by my VM contact/s).

Possibly, but I would remind you that Sirius (at DS) was the catalyst for all this when his DVB-C2 TV revealed that the three channels were testing. Judging by similar revelations by people with these or DVB-C TVs previously, Virgin do not have a track record of leaving channels testing for prolonged periods before launch. Typically if they were to launch in August, they'd start testing in late July, not now.

My uneducated guess would be that given we've learned there is to be no additional charge, they will appear (the 3, not the other 2) before the next Sky exclusive F1 race. I don't know when that is, I don't follow it myself.

I concur with your view in this instance.

http://advanced-television.com/2014/...g-trutv-in-uk/ Oh, God, yet another reality channel!

Turner Broadcasting will launch its first free-to-air TV channel in the UK this summer – general entertainment network TruTV.

The 24-hour channel will air on an unconfirmed slot on the Freeview, Freesat and YouView platforms. Distribution deals with Sky and Virgin Media are expected to be revealed shortly.

TruTV is viewed in 93 million homes in the US and features an array of unscripted programming, including Container Wars, Fear Factor and Jokers.

The channel is expected to commission UK shows to bolster its existing output, as well as buy up shows from distributors including Endemol and Zodiak Rights.

Turner UK general manager Anthony Lukom said that the launch would expand the broadcaster’s reach to 26 million UK homes. “TruTV shows real-life comedy featuring incredible characters in real-life situations, a formula that is enjoying ever-increasing popularity worldwide,” he added.

When Freeview first started, a channel placeholder called CBM appeared. This channel never came to fruition and was rumoured to consist of elements of TCM, Cartoon Network and Bloomberg. Looks like this could be another attempt by Turner to get back into the FTA market. I say 'get back' as, like many of us, the former head of Turner hated Sky and, despite the monetary loss, refused to join the Sky Multichannels package. For many, many years Cartoon Network and TNT were broadcast FTA.

Bold ones are rumour to be coming.

Manchester City TV is not broadcasting on any TV network only online.

Oh, I didn't know that! They were one of the first new digital channels on Sky Digital in 1998. When did they become on line only?

Manchester United TV launch on Sky in 1998 and is broadcasting on Virgin Channel 528 but is now know as MUTV.

Manchester City TV is an online only channel.

It's Monaco 22-25th May (it's the next round as it happens) so that would mean a launch very soon.

few weeks.

But it took Virgin Media NINE Months to launch channels now known as 'Eden +1' and 'Good Food +1' to launch on NTL areas back in 2007/2008.
