Thanks for the info Carl.

To me it seems like pretty basic stuff that should already be incorporated. What it shows is whilst TiVo has some flaws at the moment, when the flaws get sorted this will be a truly awesome piece of kit. In fact forget flaws, all Virgin need to do is listen to the feedback from their customers and make changes accordingly.

I agree. On the original S1 Tivo you could "deselect" channels that you wanted the box to 'ignore'; ie never record anything from. This was mainly because that unit had every available channel, including all those you didn't necessarily have.

Unfortunately, with the way things are set up, these things take time.

Seeing as it's specifically bbc history programmes which interest you, you do of course have the option of using the search function on the I player app. It's a bit of a clunky work around I admit, but I can't think of another way.

You can always improve any functionality, but whishlists have a lot of flexibility as they stand. So I wouldn't call them flawed, especially if you bear in mind that Tivo is the only box you can get whishlits on. And there is other functionality that is only available on Tivo.

So Tivo has got a lot of functionality that other boxes haven't. Apart from a Dynamic EPG, does the Sky box do things that Tivo can't?

O k regulars here will no I am no fan of Tivo,so I guess my recent experiences will only reinforce my opinion.
Have switch the V+ and Tivo around its the TiVo we tend to watch the most. However we still have the settings for recorded programmes on both. Last night went to a recording on Tivo cut off 20 minutes or so early. tried I Player .Boy is that painful . More so as it was not there. Then went to V+ all fine a working !!!
So not impressed.

Certainly sounds odd. Which programme; time/channel? Neither have dynamic EPGs so I can't see it being an EPG problem.

Our Tivo hasn't failed to record anything to date. No "hiccups" either (save the ones where it hasn't recorded because of our settings i.e no repeats). Not tried iPlayer as yet. However I did leave the recordings set up on V+ as insurance, at least we can watch in our bedroom if disaster strikes :)

From some time in the last 7 days, ( a week today I think)
Escape to the country, BBC 2 if I recall correctly 18:30
Was not on I player ,that I recall because the boss looked at BBC 1 first & then checked on TiVo to see it was on 2. Boy was that painful :(

Home
Search All TV (or '4' as a shortcut)
Enter "ESCAPE" (in fact you only need to enter "E" for it to appear in the search results, or "ES" for it to be top of the list)
Select programme from search results
Get from On Demand
Choose episode - there are 5 from the last week
Enjoy

Can't see any reason it would not record the whole thing. Even if it re-booted during the recording it would only miss around 6 mins of then just start recording again

Other PVRs include wishlists. In the UK the 3View pvr has it as a function.

Well I had never heard of that one before. According to Amazon it's "not currently available" anyway. Also, it's limited to 'keyword' and 'celebrity' (sic) so Tivo still has the edge ;)

I'm not sure that the term "wishlist" is one that a company could copyright, register as a trademark etc. Rather too broad a description I would have thought. Would be an interesting test case if ever brought though :)
