How exactly have Sky "ruined" any chance of Virgin having HD ?

From a quick and dirty tally, there are at least 13 HD channels not owned by Sky (according to Media Boy's list on page 1).

Virgin have had the rights to broadcast Channel4HD for over a year now.... Where is it ?

At the time of the TVDrive launch, there were posters everywhere stating "Virgin 1, Sky 0 - HD only on Virgin" - so, Virgin were actually first to market with an HD product, as everyone seems to blame Sky for "Locking in" HD channels to an exclusive contract (no evidence ever given for this theory that I have seen), what was stopping Virgin locking in these same channels ?

If Sky has "Locked in" these channels as an exclusive, then isn't that just good business sense for them ?

Do you not think it comes down to the fact that Virgin have been very reluctant to spend any money on the TV side of things and that they simply do not have the bandwidth available to broadcast HD MPEG 2 streams in all areas ?

Do you not think that Neil Berkett's comments that Virgin were not interested in linear HD channels (made last year sometime I believe) may have actually been closer to the truth ?

THIS

"Virgin have had the rights to broadcast Channel4HD for over a year now.... Where is it ?"

Is the point that makes by blood boil. - Synner is spot on...forget the other HD channels for a moment. The fact that CHN4 HD is not on VIrgin is inexcusable... and i can't even spell inexcusable.

Surely the pig should be flying, not walking :D. If you train it to fly then VM may add an extra HD channel.

Home will launch on April 30th. With Really launch being on May 19th.

Gardens shows will be part of ''Home'' and Really will target predominantly women aged 18 to 35 and launches with the tag line: Really - you couldn't make it up. UKTV describes it as a "zeitgeisty and noisy female brand".

Is this constant rebranding anyone else? They should research names BEFORE they launch then they wont need to re-brand. I now dont have a clue what channels are now and what they were called before, the people in charge dont understand what building a brand is. Luckily its only crap channels that are rebranded so i dont need to even bother looking at their tv listings :P

They are probably are ashamed by the awful channels so rebrand it so ppl think ooo a new channel lets see whats on! Then they realise its a crap channel then a few months later the channel rebrands again :P

I think that channel might quietly disappear and UKTV stick the food programmes with the garden shows under the Home channel.

All this rebranding is more to do with how these channels look and are positioned on Sky's EPG, than cable's.

Personally, I think they should have a channel called Aspirin after all these rebrands.:)
