A new book on Theistic Evolution. The price on this seems to fluctuate rapidly. At time of writing it's £39 but I bought it a couple of days ago at £33 - used Blackwell's because it accepts book tokens and was cheaper than Amazon.

Mouse Traps :(

After a few day's of hubby allowing me to try and catch the mice my way which was a humane mouse trap, I have admitted defeat and bought two mouse traps.

I must say that hubby was right as the humane mouse trap has not been effective at all, in fact the mouse must be really fat now.

I still feel really bad about buying these I just hope hubby is right and it is a instant kill (if it is not please don't tell me) why did it need to pick my house poor wee thing just wants some heat and food.

I have warned both hubby and my eldest son not to tell his little brother that we have resolved to this method. My plan was that I would catch the mouse/mice and we would set it free at the Golf Course which is at the back of my house and in an ideal world that would have been the case.

The thought of having mice in my house is making me feel rather sick tbh.

It took me weeks to get rid of my mouse problem, i think we had like 10 of the things! but obviously you really don't know how many you have until they stop coming! Good luck!

Basically had them in the bin in the Kitchen and in the loft, so put traps in both of those places.

Yesterday I got all these records :)

1) Nat king cole - Unforgettable (MONO)
2) Lawrence Welk - 1963s early hits (MONO)
3) 1950s rock and roll collection (4 record set)

What I love about this collection is THEY HAVE THE SONGS IN FULL MONO IN BOTH CHANNELS!! (The music sounds excellent (Most 50s songs are MONO anyway))

I also have this collection on 8 track (3 cartridges) and I can tell already the records are MUCH BETTER! (Longer songs, etc (Some songs are cut off early on the tapes (What I have heard so far on the records is awesome!)))

1" x 3" strips (approx) skin side down in a dry tray in a 200c oven for 45 minutes. Then lift out, drain the excess fat, and return them to the oven for about 20 minutes (or until all the skin "pops").

Then cool for a while before wrapping in a clean tea-towel and rubbed to remove most of the excess oil.

So easy.

Booked but effectively bought: MOT and 2yr main service for the car. Normally I do my own servicing but there's no Haynes manual for the Mitsubishi Colt so although I'd be happy to do the interim service (that's air filter, oil filter and oil + general check round) I don't know the details of the main service and the weather's not nice for grovelling round and under a car.

I've put the business with a local family run outfit that I've used for MOT's for a long time and occasional other work. They're very good. Chatting with the boss man it turns out that spark plugs are now not a routine service item!! Well that saves a few pennies. :)

Do you only have one ear or something?? Or only have one speaker? Because I can't for the life of me understand why someone would prefer Mono over Stereo as it makes no sense what so ever.

Polish lager. The price rose from £1 to £1.25 a can a while back, blaming the Euro. Now it's gone up to £1.50, blaming Business Rates and rent increases. At this rate the proposed Minimum Alcohol Price law will have no effect on this brand's cost. Still it's better quality than most of the lager on the market.

I hate sorting out insurance too. House insurance - renewal was cheaper than going with the same insurer via comparison site. Car insurance next - 2 cars - last 2 years two separate policies from one insurer cheaper than multicar from the same. But it's all the fine detail - offers look good until you add on stuff then that great offer looks less good than before while another quote doesn't change as much and becomes better.

Goat is lovely old bean but as you say it will need to slow cook for several hours.

Slow and low, then skim off the fat before flavouring (I like Curry Goat Jamaican style).

I bought some more Daylight LED GLS lamps from Home Bargains. They have put out old promotional stock marked half the price they are now, and the 60W equiv ones from that stick actually produce twice the lumens.

One thing done in the Caribbean is to wash the meat in lime juice before cooking (not marinate). Whether to cook slow or not will depend on the cut but likely the best in your case.

heero_yuy 26-02-2018 11:11

Re: What have you just bought?

There was a Jaimacan jerk recipe on the back of the pack so I did it to that. A whole Scotch bonnet went in minus the seeds. Not a fan of lime so I skipped adding that. 6 hours slow cooking and it was beautifully tender. Much like lamb but a little stronger. Pretty hot sauce.

Motor car insurance x 2.

We were with Admiral, and this time last year our car insurance with them was quoted at £623 (for both cars - a Ford Focus Estate and a Ford KA+) - after a discussion, we got it reduced to £419, so we were quite happy with this.

Just got the renewal through, and it had gone up to £766 - quite an increase from £419; so, I rang them up, and after some discussions, the lowest they could offer me was £660 - I said I would think about it.

I rang around, and the best quote I got (for both cars, and for the same level of cover including replacement hire car, NCD protection, legal protection, and zero excess (compulsory and voluntary)) was from DirectLine for £410; reader, I bought it...

Moral of the story - always shop around when renewals occur, whether it is utilities or insurance...

Our renewal with RAC was cheaper than I could find elsewhere so I stayed. Same was true with our home cover. Interestingly we have 2 separate policies with RAC as their "multicar" was much more expensive.

If you shop at Tesco and collect vouchers you can get it from them for very little, i got £130.50 worth of cover for only £43.50 in Tesco vouchers so it was free for me.

We paid around £260 for both cars with motor legal cover (free on one policy) and class 1 business use on my car.

(Class 1 business use is to use the car to places other than normal place of work but not commercial driving - most insurers will do this gratis)

When you said RAC I thought you meant breakdown cover, didn't know they sell car insurance too.

Pack of two ostrich steaks in Lidl's this morning. They also had kangaroo but unfortunately the animal rights lobby are forcing them to stop stocking it, despite Australia being overrun with them.
