I agree with his assessment, to then kiss his hand after a blatant handball is just unbelievable.

This guy is a disgrace to English Football.

Now we spend the next two weeks hearing no end of it in the 'Great' British media but no punishment for the player :dunce:

He probably should have skipped it this time though. The guy is a moron you have to admit that, he is utterly unaware of how to handle himself. There was the racism thing where Liverpool accused Evra of lying about an incidence of racial abuse, incorrectly alleged he had a history of making such accusations, and then Suarez refused to shake Evras hand. All this despite Suarez confessing to the comments! Now he hand balls a goal against a smaller team and still does the usual celebration.

The handball itself isn't a big deal. Anyone here who professes to be really upset about it has to look at the history of their own team. Players always try to get away with a handball....

Just because it's Suárez, a bigger deal is being made. 99 out of 100 players would do the same. Its FA cup football. If it went in at our end we'd take it. Just because it's Suarez and his reputation a bigger deal is being made"

Why commentator Jon Champion got it wrong, Suarez got it right and some people even agreed with me... it must be the magic of the FA Cup!
By Graham Poll.

Quote:

It seems telling that the only people who seem to be blatantly labeling him a cheat seem to hail from Manchester and presumably support the red half.

It's clearly a handball but other players have scored from hand balls before and nobody makes this kind of fuss. It's just because of this pathological hatred that the media and Mancs have of Suarez.

For commentator Jon Champion to say that Suarez's actions were 'those of a cheat' on national television is hugely unprofessional and serves only to highlight the mainstream English media's agenda against one of the brightest talents to ever ply his trade in this country!

Give credence to anything Champion or Poll say at your Peril, both are a waste of airtime and column inches. We should have been out of sight at half time and in the end Mansfield were desperately unlucky not to get their day at Anfield regardless of the controversy as they played their hearts out and some more. That's football.

Luis Suarez won the Fellon d'Floor award. It was a close call between him, Bale, Young and Gervinho but hey ho Suarez won the drama award.

Ronaldo should have won the ballon d'Or and RVP should have been in the team of the year in my opinion.

Ronaldo is unlucky to have his career coincide with Messi's. Messi was the deserving winner but I did think Ronaldo would win it, Ronaldo got closer last year and Messi carried on as usual. However Messi got more goals and assists and he does do more for the team.

For me Messi is the best player ever, but i thought Ronaldo had a better year than Messi regardless of the number of goals he scored. He pretty much won La Liga by himself and performed in all the big games. He also scored the majority of his goals from playing in a wide position with Higuain or Benzema up front. I disagree Messi does more for the team compared to Ronaldo, i think they are even in that respect. Obviously this is all opinion and its about probably the best two players to ever play the game, its a joy to watch both of them play at the moment.

l think you will find the best player ever has to be Pele as he won World cups as well and that is something Messi or Ronaldo have never done despite their sublime talents.

Team of the years a bit of a joke imo, thenry put more effort in his f'ellon the floor gag than they did in picking that team, it's not even as if Barcelona or real got to the champions league final either.

The World Cup isn't what it was anymore. The Champions League is the premier football competition now and besides it's largely a function of the team you're in. You can move club but you can't change country.

To say Messi is the best player ever is a disservice to players like Charlton, Puskas, Di Stefano, Hidaguti, Garrincha, Matthews and a host of others who have graced the game over the years.

I think Messi is better. I think modern players are better than their former counterparts role for role. The best player ever in this generation will be better than the best player ever in the last generation because the standards are higher. Players are fitter, faster, and have better coaching from a younger age. The game is a lot faster now as well and players have to act quicker with the ball moving faster.

the players back there were as fast as they needed to be. I've seen Puskas do a drag back like Ronaldo in 1953, wonder if the top players could do that with old ball and old styles shoes.

Which is not as fast. The players were as good as they needed to be for everything but the need was lesser in a time when the overall skill set was lower. That was a time when players can have a drink the night before a game, many drinks, and have a big breakfast as well. The level of fitness was a lot lower because the fitness of the other players was equally poor. They were coached a lot later in life than current players are and the coaching had less history and experience in draw upon. The competition wasn't as strong for places as it is now when global scouting networks mean you don't have to simply be the best in your area to get regular playing time in a professional team, you have to be amongst the best in the world.

Yes but they play for the era they are in. They may not be able to take as many assaults as former players did but they're footballers, not American football players. Would former footballers be able to complete with the speed of today's game? It's a lot easier to do something imaginative when you have more time on the ball than Messi who has a spilt second to react.

Wenger said something a while back about how, in his time at Arsenal, he has watched as footballers have less and less time to make decisions. He compared it to being on the motorway, all the cars are moving as the same speed and they don't seem to be going fast until you stop and see everyone zip past you.

It's not fair that these former players didn't have all the opportunities the current ones do. The extra coaching, the better pitches, the protection to actually play football free to violent fouls, and the higher calibre opponents. Maybe if they played today they would be at Messi's level. They were not however.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

I agree with the above but I also think Ronaldo is better than Messi which I've said many times before :D

Ronaldo has unbelievable pace for a guy of his height. His skill is unmatched, Messi can dribble but Ronaldo is just something else. Ronaldo is a proven player in the fastest and greatest league in the world (yes that old argument again, simply put it's true) Messi however is playing for arguably the greatest 11 clubwise we've ever seen.

Ronaldo's freekick's are sensational. Ronaldo is a complete natural talent, he was born to play this game.

Some can argue Messi wasn't, Messi would never have played professional football without the use of steroids, has this improved his level? who knows.

I thought the drugs was a health issue, not a design to improve performance.

Same thing would be someone who had heart problems taking a drug, and still being able to play.

If he took a shot for meningitis, or polio, is that any different?

he wasn't abusing a drug..he was prescibed it due to deficiency in bone density etc

I can't recall suggesting he abused drugs or claiming they were to improve performance, however there is also nothing to suggest they do or don't improve his performance. The point also still remains, without the funding of Barcelona for the use of steroids, Lionel Messi would never have played Football.

Note the effects of the steroids used to treat Lionel Messi.

The first three ‘benefits’ to HGH; “Increases Energy and Endurance, Improves Sports Performance and Recovery, Increases Bone Density and Reduces Osteoporosis”. In short, run faster, play better, have stronger bones. Bold being the reason for them in the Messi case but no comments on the other benefits of it.

I can't say that. Don't know enough about it.

But could that be said about other stars, if you looked hard enough in their lives.

A teacher guided a star, someone helped with fees etc
