Just a few questions - is the BBC Red Button on the box yet and other red button e.g ITV and Channel 5?

Also, has anyone got any videos of them using the box on YouTube for example?

BBC/Sky/ITV red button is not currently available on TiVo. There are a few vids on YouTube if you search.

I seem to have 3 tuners recording regularly, and the potential problem would still occur if all three tuners are recording.

I'm not knocking dynamic EPGs I'm just looking to see if there are any potential negatives as well as the positives.

no, you either press RED on BBC channels or go to the BBC iPlayer App. It's like the internet version. It has it's own search also.

BBC content will go back to the VoD menus at a later date.

Not at the moment? They are working to get all this done though. It is all done through the BBC I-PLAYER app.

I think Tivo has a serious addiction problem; it still seems to keep recording even then, suggestions I assume.

If it carries on, I may need to stage an intervention :D

But seriously the three tuners keep getting used because all the new series are shown at prime time between 9-11 on all the channels.

I was just interested as to what would happen. On the face of it, a dynamic EPG sounds good and people wonder why it wasn't incorporated into Tivo. I was just thinking of possible downsides, and the one I described could possibly be one?
Well if it can't find a repeat it won't be able to record it. Fairly obvious I would have thought ;)

Or it could record the extra time on programme one and miss that same amount of time at the front of the next one? Same thing that tivo could end up doing if you set padding under the current padding rules! :)

With the TV CHOICE I for one as the same as a few others are having problems, This is due to going in to the A-Z and not been able to scroll past the first page. This has been reported, So waiting for it to be resolved:(

There are iPhone apps to emulate the TiVo remote but they seem to need the ip address of the TiVo.

Do these work with the Virgin TiVo? If so, how do I find my ip address?

Thanks

BenMcr 13-05-2011 23:12

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

No they don't work with the Virgin TiVo

In the US, to get an internet connection, TiVo has to be connect to your home router, so you can connect your device to the same network and talk to it

Virgin TiVo has it's own direct connection to the net, so no communication is currently possible

I think I am going to be on the phone a lot tomorrow

Fair point! I tend to forget about iPlayer because I try to avoid using it as the picture quality has always been horrendous whenever I've watched anything on it.

My box was indicating problems some some features such as recording about 15 mins ago but it now is showing no problems.

Perhaps try again.

TiVO installed yesterday, loving it so far. Not noticing the picture quality issues reported by some and loving the it so far. Seems pretty quick and intuitive to me, even though the installer said this was only his third TiVO install, he even set up the remote for the TV. Shame there are no compatible codes with my Yamaha AV Amp. Volume would be good.

Anyway looking good lets see what recommendations start rolling in. Well done VM for uping the game in the STB stakes.

Have you considered logitech Harmony remote? You'd control Tivo, TV and amp from one remote and the annoying thing of having to enter your pin number so often, becomes a 'one button press' operation.

I agree with this. Even though there is more content on the i-player app than on the V+ i-player, the quality is nowhere near as good and I've just discovered that it doesn't 'fast-forward' - it just jumps ahead, so you can't choose to pinpoint where it stops.

Well, in a round about way, if it's just the lack of HD channels stopping people moving from Sky to VM for Tivo, then maybe it is Tivo related? :D

But point taken.

Mine worked perfectly earlier. I watched 'Long Lost Families' from Thursday night and from the EPG, it gave me the option to 'Watch from On Demand' or something like that which took me straight into it. I have however experienced the issue you mention above in the past.

Mine is also working fine. The only links which don't give me the option to play direct are for programmes broadcast very recently - ie where they are not yet available on-demand or the link has not been created.

It appears a bit hit or miss to me. I've looked at Thursday 12th May on ITV1. You can watch "This morning" direct but the Jeremy Kyle show you have go via Catch Up menus.

I have just noticed something on the newly changed page for TiVo? When you look at the App's page it has the BBC I-PLAYER, YOU TUBE, E.T.C but it is also showing FLICKR as well ( It is in the box with Picasa and Facebook?).

Not sure it has been mentioned before?

Agreed.

I don't know if they intend to add to the actor's film/tv appearances data, but thy're not complete ATM.

Haven't been reading this post for a while but just wanted to add that I got my TiVo box installed yesterday and first impressions are positive. I was flicking through the TV guide and saw 'Game On' listed somewhere on the previous night's TV and clicked on it, then clicked a few more buttons and whilst there weren't any editions available to watch, it took me through to YouTube, automatically searched for it and I watched an episode from there.

Not bad I thought.

And for once I wasn't thinking about the mid-twenties Samantha Janus when I thought that.

Has any one noticed any programmes ending early the BBC I-PLAYER APP as some over here have? Also if you have will you post so that they are able to look at the problem. I have already posted about one that stopped early?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Just got TiVo installed yesterday. So far no problems (Picture Quality is no worse then previous V+, reponsiveness is fine). At the moment just teaching it my likes/dislikes.

One question though. With my previous V+ I would switch it off overnight, more out of habit then anything. Just wondering if the TiVo needs to be on 24/7 or can also be turned off at night? I know the guide updates in the background, so would this be affected?

Apart from that (and the small picture flicker, when pressing Home), so far I think its great. The TiVo man took around 45 minutes, and the installation was straight-forward (even though he told me one install took over 3 hours). Hopefully, I'll start getting some recommendations through soon. All in all - I'm pleased :)

I turn mine off at night and it has had all the updates so it does not matter if on or in standby:D

If off = standby then yes, that's fine. Of course, "off at the mains" won't record anything :D

Thanks to both of you - I should have said off at the mains :( But, yeah, looks like if I switch it off at the mains, it won't record any recommendations overnight (which is obvious to me now I've written it down :) ) I'll keep it on 24/7 then, and just switch to standby at night :tu:

Only 24 hours now until my TiVo installation :) coming between 1 and 6 tomorrow and can't wait for it now! I think the positived definitetly outweigh the weaknessed but then again that's what software updates are for

Had my TIVO installed this morning at 8AM

First box was dead on arrival, all the lights were on and stayed on :(

Engineer had no other TIVOs in his van, but got a colleague to deliver another in under 20 minutes, I'm sure the tea and biscuits helped :D

Took around 3 hours before the EPG updated for the next seven days or so

SD looks just a little bit worse than my old SA V+ but I don't miss the Blackpool illuminations on the front of the old V+

Find some of the SD screens a bit disappointing when you switch from a HD menu to a SD one

Taking a while to get used to it, there is so many options but thanks to everyone on here with all the tips that aren't in the instruction book :tu:

Well SD PQ softening affect has now been confirmed as a fault and requiring a firmware update in the next release, see other PQ thread or link below for statement.

Toady - should address the slight SD affect you referred to, I have a softening affect on my Sony TV so this will help me as well. It has not affected everybody only some, but at least the cause has been found.

As this update also contains new features, it will be a few months before we're able to release it

If you read it, they basically need real people to test it, tweak it and test it some more, i bet on monitors the poor pq is hard to replicate

It may mean creating a new code instance and testing programme (in parallel with the code instance that is being developed), and perhaps the feedback on the issue has not been severe enough to warrant this?
