Off to Plymouth to pay respect to an uncle I never saw - "missing presumed dead" said the telegram...
Icy February, on a destroyer, North Sea and torpedos saw an end to him.
Wish I had met him so, so much, so I'm doing the best next that I can.

From what I've been hearing, he's got stomach cancer, which has spread to his liver and throat, and people had said they are suprised he has lasted this long.

So I guess I'll be doing a rolling temporary contract until he comes back or doesn't.

Spent the weekend in Glasgow. First time I was back after spending 6 months there 20 odd years ago as a cash strapped student living in crappy dorms.

I was a bit surprised to learn that Glasgow can actually be quite nice...

Saw Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler perform at Braehead Arena, spent 90 minutes waiting for a taxi afterwards (lovely people in the queue), did the School of Art tour, and had a brief visit to the West End. Drove past my old digs, visited Kelvin Grove Museum (really nice. Cracking Glasgow style exhibit. Nice to see that Dali's Christ on the Cross now has its own room). Lots of memories revisited, mixed emotions...

Worst thing: Some Moron renamed/rebranded/closed The Brewey Tap  :upyours:

Best thing: I'd forgotten how incredibly friendly and helpful the Glaswegians actually are. :tu:

I was going to have a pint at the Brewery Tap and ask them to play 'losing my religion' by REM (I used to live in the digs at Kelvinhaugh Str. where they stuck all the foreigners). I ended up with a coke and Panini at Carlisle services...

I spent many happy hours at the Tap. One of the few Glasgow pubs that allowed you to have a drink outside. The 'terrace' is still there. Great views of Kelvingrove and the Uni.

Oh: I see King Tut's is still going. :tu:

I am very glad that you enjoyed your visit back to Glasgow. Did you not expect us to be nice? We are really very pleasant friendly people. I wish you could have come to the Glasgow,s Grand Ole Opry. You would have had a great time. We get visitors from all over the world and they love it. Bar prices are fantastic too. I expect you saw many many changes,

Ermm, all I said was that I had a bit of a rough time as a cash-strapped exchange student 20 years ago, and that I'd forgotten how friendly the people were.

I went to the Opry last time around. It was ermm, a bit naff I'm afraid to say ;)

I saved a bunny from being squashed yesterday. Stopped my car. It was bang in the middle of the road as if it was suicidal.
Went up, got him off the road, and put him down in the field away from the road. He then hopped away.
Yay :)

Congratulations MG. That feels very quick. It's doesn't seem like two minutes since the last one. You certainly seem to be on a roll. :)

I tend to pick things up very quickly and having already done a BTEC First/ National Diplomas at college, it helped quite a bit. The only thing I wont be able to do is the level 2 English and Maths, as Learn Direct no longer have the funding for it

I think the rabbit must have Myxomatosis, as it wouldn't have let you touch it.

I have to chase my sisters around the garden to put it in its hutch, even though I have looked after him for 10 days and had to feed him and he has even let me pick him up.

Yay indeedy, That seems very quick, I have known people wait at least a couple of months to get their Blue Badge in my area.

I think you will be surprised how useful it can be. My Father had one, shopping trips and hospital visits were a lot easier when we no longer needed to drive around for ages looking for somewhere to park. Granted he was a lot older but not having a half mile hike before he even got through the front entrance would be a bonus for anyone who seems to have more than their fair share of health problems. :)

I think it was (relatively) quick as I didn't need to go off for an assessment to get one.
