If the change is for introducing Nagra 3 encryption then yes just as they no longer work in Ireland.

For those who have dodgy boxes it's a matter of wait and see unless the change is confirmed.

Not necessarily, ATM only if the encryption is changed to Nagra 3 as it has not been cracked.

The dodgy boxes eg, Starview digivox etc need firmware to decrypt the signal. If the encryption cannot be cracked then no new firmware therefore 1 new doorstop.

I know about them, I've flashed them for others but I don't have one.

So everything recorded okay but did you have to read a book until all three had finished? In other words, when the first two programmes were over did that free up a tuner for live viewing or was only the last tuner available for that?

Have you noticed if your V+ box software has changed recently? I went into the blue engineering screens to check and my V- software has a build date of July but I suspect it was only installed last week.

Do the V+ (or Sky+) boxes have a Picture-in-Picture feature? For example, very often it would be nice to watch something during the ads. but still be able to see when your main programme is back on or catch the news headlines if another channel is running a bit late (like ITV2 which always seems to run over time).

I did not read a book.

I watch ''The Bill'' on my Freesat from Sky box, then I was on here looking at things. Then I reboot at 11.05pm when I know the Movie I was taping has ended.

So the live view tuner did not come back by itself, you had to reboot. Definitely an unintended feature then.

As a matter of interest MB, which V+ box do you have?

According to Wikipedia, the Scientific-Atlanta V+ box has four tuners (3 video, 1 data) but it doesn't specify what the Samsung V+ box has. There seems to be confusion as to whether the Sky+ boxes have two or three tuners but I guess they have three (2 video, 1 data). I presume that the data tuner is used for downloading the EPG and software updates. Broadband, where applicable, is most likely handled by seperate cable modem circuitry (which, in reality, has a tuner in it too).

I have not got one of the new boxes that are just out in the last year.

Sky + has got two tuners.
But you can only watch ''Live TV'' when you are taping an other channel but if you are taping two channels you cant use ''Live TV''.

It would be the sensible thing to do, Living has moved away from being targeted solely at female viewers and that has made it a much better channel, it would be hard to change Bravo without changing the core channel. Wasn't Bravo that channel that shows went to die on? They don't tend to show much old shows anymore. I hope it is not more reality crap and softcore porn.

As always, the answer to your question can be found in Media Boy's post number one here which is updated weekly and now colour coded for easier reading. (Although the colour key isn't included, it's in a post from a few days ago.)

Media Boy UK 20-10-2009 22:52

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2009)

Virgin only goes after new channels when they deal is up with that broadcaster.

And I have been told that Zone/CBS has not any plans yet to redo their deal with Virgin.

So from November 16th we only get two CBS branded channels on Virgin.

NON Cable news:
If you have got an Freesat from Sky Box you can now view TMF on Channel 358.

The idea of a 'sticky' post one which is updated weekly and contains the latest information was a good one.

Okay, you lose the history of changes but it's better than having the up-to-date news lost among the other discussions here.

It's up to Media Boy but any additional effort on his part is a lot to ask from us.

If they redo an deal just for an new channel that broadcaster let say Discovery can come in to Virgin and says to them ''We will let you have that new channel for £Xm extra.''

But if they wait until they deal is up Virgin can tell Discovery ''Here is £Ym extra for all your channels''.

That mean cost will stay down for Virgin Media and their viewers.

Look what happened with Sky Basic Channels!!!

I think they call that 'profiling' in the justice system.

It's not called profiling, it's called a trial area. It's not going to be limited to that area, it's going to be rolled out nationwide on an area by area basis.

Yes, agreed.

I did quote my post with  'sarcasm' marks ;).

My point was that the quote from the DS news item was misleading, suggesting that there was no nationwide rollout and that it was local to the Yorkshire area for no apparent specific reason ( other than Yorkshire people can't be trusted but surely that's the Welsh as in "welsh on a deal"?).

Presumably the rollout will be on a head-end by head-end basis as each is upgraded to support NagraVision 3 (with NV1 backwards compatibility). One could further speculate that the rollout might be subdivided by franchise (ex-C&W, ex-NTL, ex-TW) and might also coincide with analogue switch-off at those head-ends but, then again, all of these things could be totally independent of each other.

I'm having trouble locating a historical schedule of the VM switch-off, listng areas already switched off and those yet to be done. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Actually, I seem to have seen that page before and fairly recently, so apologies if you posted it for me previously. I'm not sure why my search on the forum and using Google didn't find it, I had all the right keywords used in the title of the post.

Maybe spiderplant could keep that post updated and Media Boy could add a link to it in post one here.

That's a decent price to be honest it costs my mother £67 without ESPN and £30 for the internet which is now cable 20MB (more reliable). Sorry about changing the discussion a little lol. Oh by the way that's with SKY not cable.

Q: If the genuine owner of my stolen ATM/Debit Card cancels it and has a new one issued, will I still be able to get CashBack at the till with it?
A: No. The old card is no good anymore.
Q: If I just put my hand over the counter and take the money directly from the till, bypassing the card, will that still work?
A: (Stunned silence)

MB, much respect, but it's not a case of not discussing "dodgy boxes" but more of discouraging such behaviour. Just in the past week I have seen some good management of potential violations of protocol on the DS Forums and I remember someone's reply to one of my posts here being censored as it may have contained a link to a site condoning bypassing encryption on (specifically Nokia) satellite boxes.

Yes, this shouldn't become a huge debate in the thread but should aim to discourage the posting of such questions (repeatedly).

This thread is a discussion of both what's "Coming Soon ..." and what's "Going on Now ..." (and what shouldn't be).

Instead of posting on the coming soon thread , why dont you try posting here instead as you will find out more info here and leave this thread for the coming soon news that MEDIA BOY posts is read correctly .

So that we do not have to read through all the dribble when there are good threads about this stuff on this site !

Absolutely. No rumours. No speculations. "Just the facts, m'am". ;)

 So I guess that makes Media Boy a bare-faced liar and rumour monger. Who'd have thunk it. Just when you think you can rely on a source of information on the internet.

I know you're being sarcastic but it is useful to know what is speculation and what is fact. Media Boy (afaik) deals in information and speculation from a number of sources. That doesn't make him any type of liar. I think it is apparent what is rumour and what is not. The problem arises when other forum users start treating the speculation as if were a promise from some official source.

There's nowt wrong with posting facts. There's nowt wrong with spreading rumours provided they're not presented as fact.

{pppsst whispers I heard it on good authority that Zing has a thing going with Maggy J} :)

How can you tell if it's widescreen? It looks like the DOGs are in the wrong place, being nearer centre screen than normal. This would suggest a widescreen picture designed to also be viewed in non-widescreen but is there a more reliable way?

Think it tells you on the INFO screen for the programme but not sure.

You can tell by the size and position of the graphics, the ESPN America sidebars on 4:3 content and the fact that everyone looks tall and skinny until you put your TV into wide mode.

;) I take back what I said MB. Given your new logo - you're a scare-faced liar! ;)

Well it sounds like it came from a reliable source, a letter from VM, albeit a via a third party. Still, it would be nice if we had an official schedule from VM. I know, I'll post a query on the VM newsgroup!

looks like no new hd channels this year from quartaly results tv bit pasted below

In television, the use of our market leading video-on-demand (VOD) service continues to grow. Our customers made 66 million views each month on average during the quarter. We introduced six new High Definition (HD) channels in the quarter, including the exclusive HD launch of VMtv’s LIVING, one of the most watched digital channels in the UK, and plan to launch more next year to complement our existing linear and popular on-demand line-up.

I called virgin a few days ago and they said there four new HD channels going to launch before Christmas but they would not give me the names of the four channels, it makes me wonder if virgin are just talking crap.
