I don't need the drivers. I need the whole disk. The guy from Shaw neer left me the install disk for the modem. He's such a dumbass...

If you are on ethernet then the is no requirement for the install disk which we have not issued since May 2008 because they started to freeze in modern machines, all you need to do is unplug the power cable for 10 seconds and it will reboot read the MAC address of the piece equipment is connected to and go through the DORA process with the Virgin servers and retrieve an IP address from them, it is that simple.

So, I don't need it?
How come my computer doesn't detect the modem? I can't even get on to the internet.
Would i need to make another home network? I wiped my hard drive today and everything was working perfect before.

EDIT: It doesn't even detect my modem or anything. I'm starting to get ****ed...

It looks like you may have wiped your network card off your computer and you should go to control panel>classic view>network adaptors and look for it threre if it is not listed go back to control panel and look for >system>hardware>device manager>network adaptors and check if it is still listed, if it is there try deleting it and restarting your computer and it should reinstall with the New hardware found process and follow the instructions, if it does not reinstall you will need to buy a new Network Card and install it, then you will be back online.

When conecting via Ethernet, your computer has no way of detecting the device on the other side of the cable. All it can detect is that it is able to send and recieve data. It has no way of detecting what sent or recieved that data.

If you have just reinstalled your computer, you may need some driver software for your Ethernet socket. Try going to the support section of the manufacturer's website and download and install any drivers listed for your computer there.

I just rememberd, While I was looking for my install disk for my D-Link DI-624, I found some Dell disks that say "These are already installed on your computer"
Since I wiped my hard drive, those wouldn't be on the computer anymore. I go into the device manager, and it doesn't list anything that sounds/looks like an internet port. I'm using the one straight from my motherboard.

Ethernet Controller
Realtek RTL 8139 fast family ethernet adaptor
Via Rhine fast family ethernet adaptor
Should see something along those lines under the heading of Network Adaptors or if not installed properly under the heading of Other Devices.

Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed

I see the ethernet controller
I click it, then go to the resources tab, and it says
Resource Settings:
This device isn't using any resources because it has a problem.

Under the general tab it say
Device type: Other Devices
Manufaturer:Unknown
Location:PCI bus 3, device 8, function 0

Device status(box around it)
The drivers for this device are not installed.(Code28)
To Re-Install the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver

Tell me if anything is wrong here.

EDIT: I'm using the dell Driver & Utilities disk, and i need to seperately install everything that it is saying is not already on the system. I will tell you if it works.

EDITx2: I fixed it! Woot! I just needed to install the network thing drivers. Thanks for yur help along the way though! Now, It's time to set up my network.

It is quite a common error that many people make and not always so easily solved by having the restore disk to hand, nice one:)

Hmm you connected via ethernet or usb? Here are your options, scrap the usb connection and use ethernet instead. USB too unreliable for broadband internet now and the USB option has been removed from the latest cable modems

You need to use ethernet as when you receive your free upgrade to 10Mb you will never achieve that using USB.

But if you really need the drivers here they are http://www.virginmedia.com/help/broa...sb-drivers.php

You shouldn't use them anyway now, use an ethernet cable.
