Have a look at the Honeywell Home DT4 Grey Wired Room Thermostat. It is battery operated and has loads of functions. Or just ignore them and use a dumb thermostat.

Hive (and I assume similar) will work fine internally, you just wont be able to control them from outside your home unless you have a fixed internet connection.

I do, but until recently I could probably count on one hand the number of times (in 10+ years) that I've connected to it from outside the home, I just left it running on its schedule. Since Jan this year I have run a slightly different system involving one of my servers, switchbot, and Alexa routines, so now I do need the connectivity.

We have Hive but it can't run the heating pump past the flame off.
Water temperature is set to 50C (below scalding point) and heating is 60 or so.
Thermostat is at 19 in the hall but never reaches that. I guess because it is at the bottom of the stairs lots of heat just flows up there but the house feels cold, no draughts just a solid concrete floor that is not likely to have been installed with decent "insulation" or isolation.

Re: When does your Heating usually go on?

My boiler seems to be ON more since reducing it from 80c to 60c because looking at the Hive Graph for heating it says total time is already 1hr and yesterday it was only 40mins, this is under the same exact house temperature conditions as yesterday, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

Does my boiler being on longer mean I am using more gas or maybe it is using less gas when on? Think I'll have to compare the gas usage this evening and compare whether it's more or less.

Thats expected, mine does the same, as far as I can tell its using less gas.

I've had a rethink, I can't go into the winter with 15.5 on the thermostat. I have a professional booked for Friday morning. I only need a heating thermostat. Any recommendations please? Smart or digital. I'm not going for a manual dial thermostat again that's for sure

Rescheduled for next week :banghead: the positive is the dial thermostat will be removed :D

Heating is for wimps. Invest in a nice jumper and eat curry :)

He will likely just get the same as what you already have so it's easy to replace, unless yours is obsolete.

If he turns up with a Hive that'll cost, hopefully he won't in your no home broadband circumstances.

 no no  it won't be the same. I'm done with that dial. It's got to go.

Digital it is then without being smart.

I did. I watched a video on YouTube too. I like the hive. It just seems a lot more going on with the hive. It'll be funny if the gas man turns up with your pick  I don't care tbh I want something that tells the temperature and can easily be navigated.
