Not quite true ...
I had no internet for 4 days in October and was able to watch recordings of individual shows. Granted I wasn't able to select if I had more than one show from a series. I was also able to set recordings.

So if you have 2 episodes of a show you can only see 1 of them is that correct?

You can't access any episodes as it needs the server to get the breakdown.

E.g. you have a single recording of a show, you can select and watch it. If you have two shows from the same series, you can't select either of them.

  • suggestions
  • skip-back on fast-forward
  • quickview
  • default recording options
  • cancelling individual recordings from a series link
  • multi-channel series links
  • allowing recording of radio
  • separation of recordings between boxes
  • watching recordings when internet is not available
  • a lot of programme info on the epg

The 360 has most of these they’re just named something else? The only ones I can confirm are missing are separation of recordings between boxes (which does not impact me at all it’s in fact a lot easier) and the recordings of radio (which I never saw the need to do when everything is available on my phone on demand)

What are the functions called that do what the V6 does?

That's plain weird :erm:
Sounds to me like it's very much a work in progress. Still see no reason to change .

Later this year Virgin will complete the move from QAM broadcast to IP transmission, bringing in small form factor setup boxes, with bookmarking in the cloud replacing hard drive
I assume that this means traditional cable TV will cease and it will all be done over the internet and the V6 will be retired.

Perhaps those with a 360 will get to keep it, but may no longer be able to record, but those with a streaming box will be fine.

[EXTRACT]

Customers of broadband and phone provider Virgin Media (O2), specifically those who take their pay TV service and continue to use one of the provider’s legacy TiVo set-top-boxes, have recently been informed – via email – that the BBC’s popular iPlayer service “will no longer be supported” from 23rd July 2025. But it’s not all bad news.

The move (CordBusters) is hardly a surprise given the ever-advancing age of Virgin Media’s TiVo hardware (we suspect it may be the BBC that’s ending support, rather than Virgin), which first launched in 2011 and has already lost a number of features and content over the past few years. The box is now slowly grinding its way toward complete retirement, and new features tend to only launch on their more modern boxes like Stream.

I suspect the V6s will be phased out before too much longer as the BBCi-Player will no longer be supported.

When happens it happens, no point it stressing. Not sure why I would keep the box ,can do every thing I need to via smart tv if it is retired.

In which case VM will 'phase out' a lot of its customers. Streaming can be done on any Smart TV, you don't need a box from VM to do that.

V6s will still support iPlayer, it's the older TiVo Cisco boxes where BBC iPlayer will no longer be supported , although I suspect eventually the firmware on them will all be changed to Horizon.

Ah yes, that might be the meaning of their reference to ‘legacy TiVo boxes’ (ie, just the older ones). If the V6 is to retain the i-Player, they could have made it clearer.

I’ll try to confirm that.

[EDIT]

Yes, you are right.

It’s worth noting that the TV360 box is the only available upgrade – customers can’t ask to switch to the V6 box, which is still supported and features the familiar TiVo interface.
