Is it a cryptic reference to the Oprah Winfrey TV interview setting from a couple of years ago?

Perhaps “… the street where the sun don’t shine”.

Read into this what you like. From the Political Editor of The Times, Steven Swinford.
Quote:

Exclusive:

Boris Johnson, Nadine Dorries and Nigel Adams have yet to formally resign

Resigning MPs have to apply to Treasury to become Steward of the Chiltern Hundreds or Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead

Means writ for the three by-elections won't be moved today.

I doubt they’d move a by election writ today even if they could. They don’t have to do it for several weeks. And there’s a recall petition underway in Rutherglen & Hamilton West at the moment that is likely to result in Margaret Ferrier getting sacked, requiring a by election that will result in a massive SNP-Labour scrap in Scotland. Orchestrating that by election on the same day as the Tory ones would be the Tories’ best hope of lessening the political hit they will sustain just for these three contests taking place at all.

Two weeks ago, Sky News says Sunak and Johnson met but left with different understandings of the agreement. Johnson thought Sunak had agreed to wave through his nominees whatever Holac said whilst Sunak thought he would agree to whatever Holac recommended.

The list of new peerages did not include eight of Mr Johnson's nominations.
Quote:

Sunak: Boris Johnson 'asked me to do something that I wasn't prepared to do'

Rishi Sunak was asked at London Tech Week about this controversy, and there was a rather uncomfortable pause, with laughter and applause from the audience.

In response to the question of whether his predecessor undermined him, Mr Sunak said: "Boris Johnson asked me to do something that I wasn't prepared to do because I didn't think it was right. That was to either overrule the Holac committee or make promises to people.

"I wasn't prepared to do that. As I said, I didn't think it was right. And if people don't like that, then tough."

He added: "When I got this job, I said I was gonna do things differently because I wanted to change politics, and that's what I'm doing."

Johnson "misunderstanding" something that was to his advantage?

<shocked face>

How bad were the eight that got rejected, when a 29 year old got a peerage?

It doesn't bear thinking about! One was his dad I think.

I think the only positive thing that comes of out this is how corrupt & entitled the current "Tory" Party is. They are literally shining a high intensity spotlight on what the Party has become.

Labour are sitting back and applauding ...

If ever you needed proof of the buffoon’s lack of judgement (and hence suitability for office), nominating one’s dad for elevation is that proof.

Lest we forget...

Baron Johnson of Marylebone

A just reward for his nine years in Parliament...

Never underestimate Johnson. You don't become a PM by being a buffoon even if you pretend to be one.

Could it be that his father and the other seven are in the mix so that the Committee throws them out? In doing so, it might make it makes it harder to throw the others out like the 29-year-old intern.

He has officially resigned. Sunak sources claim they’d block his return as an MP.

And so ends one of the most embarrassing episodes of British political history. Without irony, ITV News just ran a piece on the death of Berlusconi with faux outrage at points acting as if that type of leader oozing cronyism and corruption couldn’t happen here.

In a way you can’t really blame Johnson, he’s acted entirely rational and with self-interest throughout. His allies rail against the “Establishment” without irony, when if it wasn’t for that establishment, what school he went to, what university he went to, he’d be absolutely no-one. No newspaper columns, so puff pieces on the state broadcaster about the affable buffoon on Have I Got News for You.
