Given they are only 10 minute episodes, I suggest you just give it go and see.

I get GM didnt like it much, but thats just one opinion - watch it, form your own.

(For the record, I thought it was ok, nothing spectacular, but then what do you expect on a small budget).

As I mentioned I enjoyed it and it does go into explaining Catherine's work to get the get working.

For only 1hr 40mins it's worth checking out.

it isn't just the production quality, it is the fact that it contradicts or ignores lots of the things we already know about Stargate. Stargate like Star Trek is a series with a scientific foundation and they established some science and "rules" about it. If someone else comes along and changes those rules without explanation then it doesn't make sense, isn't real (my realism factor) and spoils the series. I have already mentioned the fact that they cant pronounce naquadah, there was something which bugged me about the staff weapons but I can't remember what it is was but here is another corker for anyone considering watching it and would like to know what they are letting themselves in for:

We know that in order to establish a wormhole the Stargate need a massive power source such a naquadah generator or a huge lightning blast (millions of vaults). Despite that established science and energy requirements, in Stargate Origins they get it going by hooking it up to a car battery. I wish Catherine told the SGC and SG1 that in the future because they could have saved themselves tonnes of time and carried one around in their backpack for emergencies, it sure would have come in handy.

Bad news I am afraid. I am pretty sure that shortly after Origins aired I saw a youtube vid with Christopher Judge saying that a new Stargate series was definitely going. Unfortunately it looks like everything has been knocked on the head. If MGM have no intention of developing a new series again they should sell the rights to another network so the legacy can continue or at the very least do a deal with someone like Sony and Marvel have done for Spiderman.

Things may be a-changing, so much so Joe Mallozzi thinks now is the time to wake up MGM to get the ball rolling.

His blog post today gives more reasoning behing the drive.

Hmmm, I'll believe it when I see a series announced.

Re: Stargate Origins

yeah, it shame because I think they are missing out big time. We know that most companies are only interested in how much profit they can make and the thing which I don't understand is given the renewed interest in sicifi over the last few years and the resurgence of Star Trek, you would think they would be scrambling to jump on the bandwagon and bang out at least two new Stargate series. If they aren't interested in doing it themselves they should license it to another company so they still make some $$$. It is a win win all around and I just don't understand why they are holding onto it.

Not going to happen anytime soon, if at all - MGM dont seem to have any interest.

Start getting excited because I am. Recently we have witnessed Amazon throwing money at certain franchises such as Star Trek and LotR because they want to compete with Netflix and add quality content to their library. From previous discussions we have had it has appeared that MGM has been the stumbling block when it comes to getting the go ahead for a new Stargate series.

Well guess what https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2016/07/2.gif https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2016/07/2.gif https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2016/07/2.gif https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2016/07/2.gif https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2016/07/2.gif

It looks like Amazon are buying MGM. How amazing will it be if someone with enthusiasm and especially a fan comes along from Amazon and throws a tonne of money at a new Stargate series just like they did with The Expanse? :hyper:

Yes, I’d say Amazon taking over MGM is the best news for anyone wanting new Stargate.

Well the buyout is happening. Keep every finger, toe and anything else you can cross crossed.

They did well with The Expanse. It would be stupid not to take advantage of the fact that you now own a massive and popular scifi franchise like Stargate. The great thing is that you know it will be looked after and given the love it needs with regards to $$$. There wasn't anything wrong with The Expanse but you could see the step up in production quality when Amazon bought it.

Re: Stargate Origins

Given the arms race currently ongoing in the streaming tv industry, I think there’s a decent chance they will latch on to Stargate. And if they somehow haven’t realised it yet, you could always write in and remind them. ;)
