You are not locked onto all the downstreams yet, the arrow will change to blue eventually and you will gain another upstream.

that is because the shub hasn't been registered on the network yet and you are in the walled garden. There should be a number you have got to ring where you enter your phone number and then select an option to activate a new superhub. It will then check the system to see if you were down for a new one and then register it on the network. Once it has done that it will reboot automatically and the new config will come down.

roughbeast makes a good point. Can you clarify what type of machine you are running the test on (pc/laptop/phone/console) and whether it is wired or wireless.

Hi(again), it's a new HP Pavilion laptop and I run this to my router via ethernet lead and got a reading of approx 90mb , according to Ookla Speedtest.
Running the speed on my ipad via wifi, I am getting approx 45mb, the same as before upgrade fron 152.
Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

how old is your laptop and which operating system are you running? If you right click on the network icon on your taskbar, open network and sharing centre, right click the icon for your nic and then click status it will give you a link speed. Is it 1gbit?

The gentleman is connected to the old DOCSIS 1.1 network.

Note the downstream frequency, 339MHz, and the symbol rate on both downstream and upstream. Downstream is a DOCSIS, not EuroDOCSIS, channel, and upstream is a 1.6MHz wide channel rather than the 6.4MHz that all the DOCSIS 3 networks use.

Hi General. In answer to your message, my laptop was purchased a month ago and now running Windows 10. I have checked link speed, as requested, which gives the reading of 100.0 mbps over a wired ethnet connection. i hope that makes sense.

Okay, you have at least one problem there. That 100.0 mbps means you're not going to get higher than that, ever. Now we know the Superhub is capable of 1Gbit and I'd like to think that any laptop from the last decade or so can do 1Gbit so the issue may well be the cable you're using. Do you have another ethernet cable to try?

It could equally be a driver issue but you're not going to see much more than 90-odd Mbit if the link is set to 100.0Mbit.

Re: 200 Meg broadband advice.

I am so glad I asked that question. The reason why I posted the link above is to show you what it should say. If your laptop is only 1 month old it should definitely have a gigabit nic. Can you give us the model number so we can look it up? 1gbit (1000 megabits) means it can do up to that speed, so if VM provision you for 200mbits you can do and if they upgrade you to 500mbits it can do it. Similarly if your laptop/nic can only do 100mbit than that is all you are going to get regardless of the speed VM give you. The best way to think of it is this. I could tell you I have just built a new 6 motorway and it is so long and straight that the speed limit is a fantastic 200mph. You are allowed to drive at 200mph but if you have got a moped which can only do 40mph than you know that is all you are going to do.

Give us the model number of your laptop and we'll see what type of nic it has got and if there are any new drivers available for it. (btw, what type of cables did you buy? if you look at the printed info on the cable does it say cat5e patch cable?)

I ****ing love me some B5! If ever there was a series deserving of a modern remake like BSG, it's B5. Epic show.

Hi
The full model number per invoice as follows is:
HP Pavilion 15-p261na notebook pc
Hope that clarifies this better.
I have ordered ethernet ,as suggested by Kush, to see if that improves matters.
Many thanks again for your help.

I am speechless :eeek: I only wanted to check it so we could rule it out. I didn't even realise they made them anymore. No matter what you do you are only ever going to get 100mbits if you connect your patch cable to that nic. You have got two choices; you can ring VM up and downgrade your bb to 100mbits or you can go for something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker%C2%AE-...hernet+adapter

Very disappointing but I am glad we got to the bottom of it fairly quickly before we started mucking about with the shub and phone calls to CS

Yup, it is my favourite tv series ever. I have watched loads of more modern things over the last decade but nothing can touch B5. BSG is my second favourite series of all time but I wouldn't tarnish B5 with the same brush. The original bsg was fun like the A-team but very cheesy and for children so when they remade it they made it for adults with more serious themes and consequences which is why it is so good. B5 is awesome anyway and I am not sure what would be gained with a remake apart from sprucing up the special effects. I am about to have a shower and get some tea but when I have got time later I will try and make a top 10/15/20 (depending how hard I find it :) ) of my favourite tv series.

I am surprised anyone is still selling laptops with anything less than a 1.0Gbps network card. The Pavillion 15 is equipped with WiFi that should be capable of 200Mb+. You may only get that in the same room as the router though. The furthest reaches of your house will give you less.
