A modern PC is not always a high spec PC.

A modern PC is one which would have a balance of performance and power usuage or is simply 'new'.

Most Modern PCs may have a decent CPU but lack a good GPU, Hard Drive and/or RAM.

Hence they can be different.

You can have a high-spec pc that is modern. In fact, for a machine to be high-spec, it has to be somewhat modern as that's just how technology works (this doesn't apply to all fields but it does to gaming PCs).

In any case, it doesn't matter how powerful your PC is, it doesn't draw full power at all times (unless you've done something silly), which is exactly the point. Yes, you might have a beefy graphics card and some high-speed RAM but unless you're actually using them in some capacity, their power draw will be somewhat minimal.

Either way, the fact that you're now trying to justify wanting an infinitely fast connection just so you don't have to run your computer for an extra 30 minutes because it's apparently "too powerful" shows just how spurious your logic is. If power or heat is a concern to you, invest in a microserver or similar.

You mean like the one I have just had installed? Makes a good backup line. I never said I didn't need faster downloads. I just don't have an issue with 1GB taking a minute - which you seem to.

You can have any speed you want if you have the wonga to play for it - if this is a " I want 10gbps both ways unlimited for my £30 a month" cry then jog on.

You're just being a bit silly now.

I have no issue with 1GB taking a minute.

I have an 'issue' when, lets say, I decide to download a big file and then it's going to take what, 5 Mins+.

I have seen the massive difference between speeds 10 years ago when it came to downloading a music file and speeds now.

The difference is many minutes of waiting to pretty much instant.

ALL I SAID was that it will be good to see faster speeds so that this can be true with pretty much any file size.

And clearly those speeds are offered, for example 1Gb/1Gb for $70 in the US.

That's what, £45 a month or so?

Hardly more than VM charge for 100 (120) @ £35.

And while I understand many factors when it comes to price I have never stated I want these speeds 'cheaply'.

That is just you being immature and trying to 'be funny'.

I have expressed an interest in advancements of technology, whatever it may be.

Having choice is a good thing, if you don't want faster speeds then should that mean no one gets the option?

ISPs will move with the times and offer faster.

When they do and when it's available, I'll be ready to sign up.

I don't see how you can appose it, or have an issue with it. Someone having a connection faster than what you deem as 'adequate' will affect you in what way exactly?

A high end PC does NOT have to be a modern PC.

In fact a year old PC could beat a brand new modern PC.

If I start to download something and its taking a while, a quick spin of GTA IV will mean significantly more power output. Staring a screen for 10+ minutes is no fun.

And you have blown it out of proportion.

I said speeds in relation to file sizes.

That's the key point.

File sizes are getting bigger and taking longer.

See my point about music downloads years ago and now. Massive difference.

It would be good to have that with 10GB+ downloads, as you could with let's say a 1Gb or 2Gb connection.

I never said I want these speeds tomorrow.

I know they will take time but its obvious they are coming.

Simply having that choice is great.

If you don't like convenience and quicker downloads, that's fine by me.

However other people would prefer the convenience and just because that's different to what you regard as adequate, shouldn't mean it's wrong.

I welcome progress and making things seamless.

I can't actually believe there are people out there who like load/wait times.

It's good to know those kind of people aren't the ones behind corporations who try to introduce innovation and advancements.

Afterall, a national 1Gb service that's affordable would mean slower speeds see a price drop.

Years ago £20+ a month got you what, 56K? 128Kbps?

Now look what you get.

Faster speeds have led to more value for money, especially those who don't need faster speeds.

Honestly can't believe some people would argue against having faster and better.

Speed has been abysmal for a couple of days, rebooting the modem and router seems to have fixed it. Loving the ping. :D

Love my 120mb connection! Wish I could get the full 120mb on my ipad3 (latest one). I got Superhub 2 last week but only get 40mb max on wireless on ipad.

Downloads are great. VM seem to be more on quantity. I have real trouble streaming anything thesedays :(
