That wasn't what I said at all.

But lots and lots of customers asked for the reminder function - how is that not "what their paying customers want and need"?

Beggared if they do, and beggared if they don't.....

Might be my imagination, but just had a techy round to sort out poor signal issue with the Tivo and it seems to boot a bit quicker with the 15.3 update. Just timed it and from starting a reboot in the reset menu is a snid under 3 mins, and there's also a new 'start-up' screen whilst it's booting.

Cheers

Grim

You obviously haven't been following the reminder debate, or you would know that is completely untrue. VM added reminders because customers asked for them.

Tivo as originally implemented didn't have reminders because the people at Tivo couldn't see a use for them because it has 3 recordable tuners. Some VM customers agreed with Tivo and some wanted reminders added. VM added reminders, so you can't say they don't listen to customers.

That's a bit harsh , since the arrival of VM TIVO customers have gained access to Remote record , recording on all three tuners , greater storage , connected facilities (YT etc) , many more advanced PVR functions plus future features like multiroom streaming , iPad app.

Apparently, reminders is something that VM's customers have purposefully asked for and (regardless of my opinion of the feature) I am happy that VM have listened and implemented the requested feature.

So yes, I suppose that is typical of VM; but not the in the way you suggest :)

It also sounds like implementing DEPG might be a lot more complicated and therefore may take a while longer but I'm sure they're still looking into it.

Pointless having a reminder or a recording set if the programme starts late or moves channel because of sports or other over run. Can't believe how many times recently the EPG has been wrong.
"Hardly ever" in my experience; but then I don't record much from the terrestrial channels that are more likely to have live events like sport.

Even a Tivo "suggestion" recorded the wrong programme because the Olympic coverage over ran.
As it was only a 'suggestion' you have missed nothing so it's a moot point anyway :)

A non dynamic EPG works fine for me, so I'm personally not bothered by the lack of one. Dynamic EPG's can bring their own problems, so if they do add one, there had better be a way to optionally switch it off (there was a rumour that it had been posted on the VM Tivo forums that if Tivo did get a DEPG, that there would be no option to turn it off.)

And they did respond to customers complaints on lack of global padding. VM didn't get it right on the first attempt, but have fixed it in this update and added even more recording options adjustments than just padding (according to those who have had it).

No change to the default settings of 1 minute before and 4 minutes after for recordings, which means I'll have to continue changing it to my preferred 5 and 10.

I don't know if this has always been the case, but when I tried changing the start recording time, for each minute I added to the recording start, it deleted a minute from the recording end.

What sodding use is that????

They've added an option to set a a global default which you can get to via 'Settings > Recordings > Default Recording Options'

Just to point out that it'll only apply to new series links set up after you change it. Any existing ones will stay as they are

Adding a pop up to a planned recording is a reasonably small extension to existing functionality

As I understand it a Dynamic EPG would be a complete change to the core way of how TiVo gets EPG updates.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be possible, but it makes sense to set your priority in order of how easy it is to do.

As I understand it (and this may be wrong as I am basing it on my mucking around on a hacked Series 1), it would be a massive change to the way that the Tivo (and not just Tivo on VM) software operates. As such, even assuming that VM did want to offer it, they would still need to be in a position to persude Tivo it's a good idea. Tivo may be unwilling as their software operates boxes for a *lot* of companies, all of whom would be affected it.

Even if it does happen, it's not going to happen quickly.

Personally, reminders don't bother me. I've only ever used them to find out how they work. Never set one up to remind me to watch a program..

Well, you certainly won't have that problem with sky, after all they cant even offer suggestions:rolleyes: I don't know much about dynamic EPG, but I know my parents, who have sky+HD, moaned just the other day about a program they wanted to record, did not record because the previous program over ran:erm::rolleyes: Lost count when I was on sky of the amount programs that did not record because I lost the signal (thanks to that pesky wind and rain) no dynamic epg will save that:rolleyes:
Besides after I lost the ending of a film I was desperate to see years ago, I learned very quickly to recored the next 2-3 programs (depending on length) after any live events or delays that happened during the day.

How can any company ever deliver what customers want/need because no-one wants/needs the same thing (tbh, there are more people wanting reminders than not) Okay, its not ideal, but I am happy to have it back.

Mute point as we have them, but where is your evidence for that?

That's what I was talking about. If I add a minute to the Start Recording, it subtracts a minute from the Stop Recording.

Same with adding to Stop Recording.

Useless.

There must be a falt somewhere; no way would VM implement that. Have you tried a box reboot?

Got the update upon waking up this morning. Quite weird how the Recording Defaults can't be set to exceed 5 mins, eg. you can't have 2 mins before and 5 mins after, the most I can have is 2 mins before and 3 mins after. Bit strange, but a well needed feature.
