It will be a LAN connection, the official statement on the community forums already stated that he iPad app will need a LAN connection so it s a safe bet that this will too.

But the question was does Markyuk have the two TiVos connected via a lan.

I was referring to the general comments on this thread not that particular post.

Mmmmm another 50ft cable from amazon then maybe.

Why dont you just connect the tivo boxes with 2 homeplugs, see website facultyx for details on homeplugs. There is no need to run cable around the home. The homeplugs utilise spare bandwidth through your electricity cables. I have connected my 2 tivo boxes. They see each other, but due to restrictions you cannot stream from the box you recorded the programme on to the other box. This part of streaming as yet to be activated.

Thanks for the update on the streaming functionality. Really looking forward to this being fully up and running. I would also agreen with the home plug suggestion, definitely what I'll be doing...

Hello

You need at least 2 homeplugs to create a network. ideally they should be plugged directly into the wall socket, but they do work if plugged into an extension socket. just plug one next to your router and connect the homeplug to the router via the ethernet cable supplied with the homeplug. Then do the same with the other homeplugs to connect the tivo boxes. These plugs are great for connecting any ethernet product to your home network.

Well we can now see the other tivo's now playing list,
but trying to stream any programme just says "not allowed".

You can delete a programme on the other tivo remotely if you like, but that's all we can do at present.

It would be nice, if VM could be more open and tell us when features like these will be fully operational. For instance, when streaming is fully functional, will it be bidirectional. Why did the update install multi room streaming onto the tivo box, when you cant use it for its intended purpose.

One thing at a time, although I am surprised that they showed this feature and not enabled you have to wonder if people are calling VM saying that this feature does not work. At least it is in there so they just have to flip the switch to turn it on.

Although being able to remotely delete is a good feature I have Friends series link on both boxes so now I can delete the episodes from both boxes in one go.

Also, the update roll out is not complete yet, VM have said they will be Emailing us on the 25th with details about what is included in this update - so I'm kind of hoping for some info about this feature then :)

Note - I say hoping, not expecting!! ;)

Do you see homeplugs as suitable for TV streaming or just transfer? Appreciate we don't exactly know how 2 Tivo's will work yet in terms of watching a recording held on the other - do they copy over or just stream it from one to another (USA Tivo site implies copy)? If it is copy then homeplugs are fine since just data transfer. If it is streaming then just checking if you have any experience of using homeplugs this way?

I've been looking at the TP-Link AV200 Mini Multi-Streaming Powerline Adapters, http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/d...el=TL-PA211KIT, they say they can provide HD video streaming with speeds up to 200Mbps but what is reality?

As far as i can see. The streaming will be between tivo boxes. So you can stream the contents of 1 box to another tivo box connected to your bedroom tv and visa versa. Not really sure how you would stream to a laptop/pc. Interesting thought though.

Re: Multi room streaming

Streaming to a computer rather than another TiVo box would require a modified version of the TiVo Desktop/Buddy app. The regular one doesn't work... can't even see the box across the LAN.

Might be waiting a while to do that though, if at all: seems like licensing problems are preventing it being rolled out, although of course most people wouldn't care to download the .tivo files and convert them by stripping out the code which locks them. I mean, I would, but most users won't take the trouble so all the claims of piracy are a bit extreme, I think.
