I know everyone will sigh at me for ignoring the no feeding signs but according to the 'Finally Arrives Here' thread you started on 13 March:

Then 20 minutes later you backed it up with:

Early hours of the next day (16 March - keep up eveyone!!):

Just upgrade back to 100 Meg as tech guy had fixed my power level. It now stable 98.79Meg download and 9.42Meg upload. Downloading transfer rate of 10.2Mb/s solid. Ping is now 6ms. Much better :)

On the 17 March after we had all discussed how much all these changes must be costing you, it looked like you were going to stick it out on your new tier:

13:17 - 18 March, after we've all debated at length if you are for real or not the news we've all been expecting:

I don't need 30Meg, I don't need 50Meg, I don't need 100Meg and I don't need 200Meg in future. I only surf the internet, forum, chat and email and that's was it.

I would like to say many thanks to virgin media tech guy who came to my house today to installed 100 Meg, XL TV with Sky Sports & Movies with HD, and XL phone with unlimited calls. All went very well. I gave him a nice cup of tea and a cake. The tech guy had replaced a new superhub and fitted a new HD v+ box in three rooms!

@Telford, I was going to do a graph of your speed changes, but thought it might give me a funny turn. Can't you see from the above why nobody can take anything you say seriously?

If you manage to go for 18 months without changing to a different package I could be tempted to pay your 19th months broadband for you, not that I think for a minute I'll be getting my cheque book out!!

Cheers

That poster will post every now and then with a complete load of bull excreta that Walter Mitty would have not made up. He knows that the admins here cannot touch him because he stays just this side of the line. Everyone should do what i have done and put the fool on ignore

Admin's perogative no? If he is that much of a disruption even keeping in toe with the rules, then I am sure they can use discretion and just ban him :P

I'm confused as to how anyone can manage to upgrade and downgrade in such a short space of time .Each new package would require a new contract surely ?

I could explain more but I don't have the inclination given the rest of your post.

I know about ATDMA, I have explained it myself on the VM forums how it works etc. So no need to explain.

I still think its a pile of rubbish myself, there is other ways.

Oh and btw ATDMA is a modulation type. Overall I would prefer SCDMA over ATDMA.

EDIT: I remember me and pip having a discussion about this, but pip just opened up a new thread and didn't bother to respond :P

VM are not actually using scdma on docsis2 then? sounds like a mode that would help latency. It does seem VM are barely utilising docsis2, no qam64 and no scdma.

SCDMA has other benefits, it can utilize 128QAM with TCM (Trellis Coded Modulation). Also the fact that there is not time slots assigned per modem on the upstream, so modems can transmit Asynchronous, but as some people know ATDMA is not Asynchronous and assigns time slots to each modem on the same node so it is not a continuous data transmition.

ATDMA is a direct evolution of DOCSIS 1.x physical layer (PHY), which uses TDMA multiplexing. DOCSIS 1.x upstream PHY uses a frequency division multiple access (FDMA)/TDMA burst multiplexing technique. FDMA accommodates simultaneous operation of multiple radio frequency (RF) channels on different frequencies. TDMA allows multiple cable modems to share the same individual RF channel, because it allocates each cable modem its own time slot in which to transmit. TDMA is carried over in DOCSIS 2.0, with numerous enhancements. SCDMA is a different approach, in which up to 128 symbols are transmitted simultaneously via 128 orthogonal codes. SCDMA multiplexing allows multiple modems to transmit in the same time slot. Both ATDMA and SCDMA provide the same maximum data throughput, although one might perform better than the other under specific operating conditions.

and

In order to get high throughput with SCDMA, the modems must all be time aligned within a fraction of the symbol rate. Otherwise, the “S” (synchronous) part of CDMA fails, and the data from one modem corrupts the data from other modems. The result is packet loss. The timing resolution is measured in nanoseconds. There are issues when you measure things in nanoseconds across a distance of 40 km (a short network) or up to 320 km (a long network):

minute changes in fiber path distance, caused by temperature (expansion and contraction of the glass itself)

expansion of the coaxial network (which is why every span has an expansion loop)

the fact that the speed of light also changes with temperature, in both fiber and coaxial line (Velocity of Propagation as a percentage of speed of light)

Every 1 second, an SCDMA modem must be time-aligned, if the modem is more than 20 km from the headend, even if less than half of that network is overhead plant. This represents at least 60 to 80 percent of the cable modems for most multiple service operators (MSOs).

If the hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) network is 100 percent underground (including the fiber), the modems are less than 10 km from the headend, and the temperature is very constant for a given day. Then the modems can be time-aligned less often.

Apparently, timing alignment had become a major problem with the modems of some vendors in general. They lose synchronization with the downstream and do not realize it, and then transmit at the wrong time. Therefore, the modem transmits at a time that is reserved for another modem and causes packet loss both for itself and for the other modem. The packet loss for all modems vanishes when only the bad modems are removed from the network.

Cmon Pip put it into your own words surely you got taught that at school :)

What it doesn't say even though it is the same max throughput, ATDMA due to its time sloted upstream channels can cause packet loss when sending data packets to a destination, etc.

Again SCDMA is superior, in the fact as said it can handle 128QAM and use TCM. And Asynchronous upstream channels, even to us it is unnoticeable for the ATDMA timeslots but to the modem etc it is eternity :P

I saw Telford posting modem stats, and assumed that 100mb uses ATDMA upstream, so said... but it seems to have turned into a debate. Which is more entertaining than Telford.
