Re: The Royal Wedding 2011
It's ridiculous how we've got to the stage where a flag or even being British is offensive to some people.

Regrettable and unfortunate yes, but it's not simply "ridiculous" when you look at the reasons behind some of the stated positions. |
Re: The Royal Wedding 2011
It's because it's became widely accepted that if you want to be offended by something then someone will take notice of your objection.
we've allowed it to get to that stage, and there's no turning back. other than to say get stuffed with your being offended. |

I agree, all this causing offense if BS. |

To address instances of offence being caused as a result of overt showings of nationalism one answer (at least one which has had a positive effect of reducing offence caused and offence taken) has been the enforcement of the Flags and Emblems Act which had dramatic positive effects here in Northern Ireland (at that time the most sectarian divided civilization in the West) when it banned the display of national flags (whether British or Irish) in workplaces and other certain public areas. On that basis alone nobody can deny that the removal of national flags from workplaces where there are mixed denominations / religions and creeds has worked. |
Re: The Royal Wedding 2011
I have no problem with it, it's tradition and all that
But I won't be watching it or celebrating :P |
