BEEEEEP!!!
Ok hands up I admit maybe I should just do a clean install. I have a lot of rubbish that I need to check. Whats the safest way to repartition a 1TB so I have about 200 Gig for my files. I take it once I moved them to the new partition they should be safe from the clean installation.....Note to self must really get another drive for backups.

If your 1Tb is one big chunk at present you'll need to defrag so all your files are packed at one 'end' of the disk.
Then you can use the Easeus freebie to create the new partition.

Probably best to use Belarc to list all your installed stuff as well, as it's easy to overlook things that you take for granted.

With the Belarc list it's much easier to look through all your stuff and make sure you have serials available where required as well as important data saved.

And yes, you really SHOULD have a backup drive, if your data has any value to you..
