Sorry I don't see the point in this beating, surely the people who's names are on the memorial wouldn't like to see thier names sullied anymore byt beating the idiot.

Pity the people can't be sentenced to things like two years national service

Unless it was a typo I think EOB was referring to 'beasting'* as opposed to beating - I may be wrong of course, EOB may just be a total sadist...... ;)

*"the imposition of arduous exercises, either as training or as punishment; being beasted"

en.wiktionary.org/wiki/beasting

Put a foot wrong in the Army & you would probably be in for a "Beasting", drilled for an while, doubled, any crap they can throw at you to give you a hard time. Osem is right.

I agree with the punishment though.

I think you'll find, according to Doughnut's thread, that rather than being a thing of the past, it's something that is a quite frequent occurrence as you get a bit older.....;)

Mangaged to get on a military range earlier this year and got 3" @ 200m on the old L85A2 with an old Susat (he had no ACOG's :( )

Not as good as my best when I was a weapons tech but don't get a chance to shoot much these days apart from putting some rabbits on the dinner plate up our field with a precharged
