sorry but it is not cheaper £300 compared to anything from £250+ for a gtx285 and £300 for a gtx295 which outperforms the, 5870 but only just but that is a dual gpu card.

I had my wires crossed with the cheaper remark, i was referring to the 5850 (which is better and cheaper than the GTX285) not the 5870

I think dx11 will be far more widely adopted by developers and of course win7 is being warmly recieved so completely different to dx10 at this point. That said all dx api's are usually the same story so much potential so short in the practical execution but iam hoping 11 will be something good god knows we need something on the pc to get some decent games out on it rather then ports from console.

Not only that, but DX10 was harder to code form which is one of the reasons why DX 10.1 came about

DX10 is not harder to code for at all.

The new driver model was.

The only thing stopping me upgrading at the moment is compatibility with older games. I play Grand Prix Legends a lot, which is a game from circa 1998 and has had numerous updates from the community to try and fix the relentless push by the GPU manufacturers to break older game support in new drivers and video cards.

That and I can't justify it because I'd need a new rig to support the thing. My Celeron 800 wouldn't cope. ;)

There wasn't a new driver model. The driver model is part of the OS and the update only came about implimented with Windows 7, hence the term WDDM 1.1, as opposed to 1.0 which was vistas implimentation

DX10 actually wasn't developer friendly, DX10.1 sorted that.

I meant the jump from DX9 -> 10, with the driver model change from XP to Vista.
The entire reason DX10 cannot be implemented in Windows XP.
