And I've just found out if you already have Multiroom you can buy the HD box for the bargain price of £199 plus installation. Not sure what installation is required to run cables that are already there but thats what they want.

So existing customers get shafted again. Thanks Sky :td:

Ach, it's probably worse with Virgin, cost me £225 for 2 x V+ boxes to be installed, took the installer all of 3 minutes to swap the boxes, and to add insult I don't even own the boxes if I decide to leave !

Well I just weakened and ordered one.

I was very surprised that they managed to find a slot for Saturday to be honest.

perhaps it's cos there's a downturn/recession that you got a quick appointment

Could be I guess. When I tried before and they lost my order it was a three week wait.

Well that's pretty good. Some people were quoting fairly long waits elsewhere. I've not rang up to order yet. Still seeing what they have to say first.

Perhaps this price cut to 49 quid is a sign of deflation. Where everything losses value, which seems like a great thing for the shopper but in the long run is really bad for the economy. Not that I really understand it.
I can't see VM slashing prices to compete, as one doesn't really buy the V+ box, they just pay for installation, I paid 75 pounds just before x mas, would never have paid 150.

Also, I've heard if you are already a customer of VM, and phone up threatening to leave, you get offered deals to keep you, one being free instalation of the V+. Anyone know if this is true?

I reckon, that before long, there will be asales blitz from Sky and VM, and prices will go down again, as there will be big competition from Freesat (ITV) as they supply HD WITH the box, that you buy, whereas with Sky you pay for HD channels.

Give it a few months, and VM will put there price down to £25.00 - watch this space.

a few years???

it will be more than that!!!

current tv's are 1080p max and HDTV from virgin and sky etc. id at 720p

so if 2160p tv's come out in years to come, then maybe HDTV will be broadcast at 1080p so having a current 1080p tv would make no difference

and looking at 7680p it will be ages before this becomes a reality!!

All HD content on Sky+HD & V+ is broadcast at 1080i, not 720p.

Doesn't mean that it wasn't upscaled from 720 before broadcast though...

The news about Hd box for Sky is good, l will be getting one in March, Sky have reduced the box with free instal. for £49.00, I have a seaky feeling that VM will reduce there V+box as well, to keep the comp going.
