Same here and I am a new customer.

Give VM credit though (well at least the engineer "paul" he posts on here somewhere-thanks for your advise Paul (username not supplied) :-). He explained that my Street box needs a re-sync of the MBR as the Node is max-ed out-but this will not take place until Nov 21st. Not sure if I could wait that long as my speed now is very SLooooooowwwwwwwwwww (49MB in 45 min to d/l). "She can't take anymore cap'n"

VM did extend my grace period to december to see if the issue got resolved, if not, then I could cancel with any penalty but as I'm in the 30 day sign up period I can get all my money back if I jump ship now - which is a good thing cos BT want a fortune to install a new line that hopefully, gives me some nice copper cable for BE Unlimited-I'm 793m from exchange.

Role on next Thursday for the line and BE sometime after that. I have heard and read some good comments on BE - check the Reviews.

where abouts are you i know the preston exchange is max'd out i have just come of the phone and they told me for 3 days they have had tech faults on the preston exchange. fro the last tech call i was told there are people still downloading inside the fair usage times and they have put the whole exchange on reduced limits..........hes advice was to download as much as you can, why i asked he said if you all did it they would have to upgrade the exchange, but at the moment no one is getting dropped, so we are not high on the list for upgrades............Its like make or break it theory..........i will give it one last week and them i will download every minute of the day till it breaks........its the only option i have left........and the stuff i get it will go straight in the recycle bin........

To be honest Windoze i have just about given up.......its 23:31 and i have to wait for a youtube clip to buffer up and i'm on 20mb. this one in fact http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MlSjlUQncw and i know by the time i have written this it still wont have loaded, i have put a post up in internet forum about the preston servers, and i will give it a week, then i'm off. if it has to be it has to be, i have been reading up on the cloners and i know some guys at work all went out the other week to %$£""£ers in manchester to get stuff those tv box things i have always been legal and it just makes me mad the extent of the Hacking on cable.......So one week to go....i know they cannot clone adsl....

Thanks again

Ok, now back online although slightly delayed after a screwup (well three actually about porting the old cable tel no)between BT and Openreach. That finally got resolved and new line was fitted last Monday. Later that afternoon I ordered BE unlimited via a friends comp and received two texts within two hours saying order accepted and everything OK. (Also got £55 cashback for ordering through Quidco which covered any costs and left a bit over))
Next day another text that line activation would be on Friday morning ( three and a half days!). next day, another text stating that Bebox had been dispatched. That arrived Thursday morning (two and a bit days after order). Was away with worki until Fri afternoon, set it up this morning and hey presto!!.
Nice little Speedtouch wireless router, although I'm ethernet connected. Speed down is apparently 18 meg solid and stable, upload 1100 kbps, although this may apparently change up or down as the line settles in over the next few days, so we'll see.
The main difference is that its a revelation - I can now open a web page or view youtube instantly - no delays or slowly revealing pages as per VM 20 meg.
Been up and running 2 hours now and it's like I have a new computer.
So far, so very good - long may it continue.
BT engineer told me when he came that I am 870 m straight line from the exchange, and 1.4 km real distance if that helps any one. If speeds change I will let you know.I haven't tinkered with anything yet but if it ain't broke, I'm not going to try to fix it.
This is exactly what I have been missing all these years with VM, a solid, reliable and stable connection. Thoroughly recommended so far.

Copperfaced Jack ............... Thanks bud thats just the kind of info i needed. I will BE there soon, I complained so much to VM i now dont pay anything till they get my slow speed sortted, the trouble is the wife heard this and said what we wait a few mins for a web page to load up, but it's free why are you complaining, they will sort it wont they!!! LMAO nope i dont think so...........So i have throttled her in the router to 33k LOL, I bet she doesn't last the week. So after saying all that, i have to give the misse's a week more and i'm off too....and the wifey won't know, BLOODY HELL I'M TURNNING INTO VM

Cheers again for the heads up on BE

Sorry if this is a silly question, but is there any way to find out how far you are from your nearest exchange without the help of an engineer? I'm considering getting BE also and I'd like to know whether I'm close enough that I'd get a decent connection.

Cheers guys,

KsE

http://www.samknows.com

only thing is it will probably show the distance as the crow flys so will only be a rough estimate since the cables can't actually take that route
