Re: ftp web site space

Sheridan, if your tool allows you to just save the files and upload them later you might finder it easier to use a dedicated tool to upload them.

That way you can specify the exact directory that they should be uploaded to, usually using a file manager style graphical interface.

Something like FileZilla would do the trick nicely. As it's a more widely used application we would be able to offer better support as well, to be honest though it's fairly point and click (if I can use it anybody can :) ).

I can see all the files, they have been uploaded into the root directory, not the public_html directory....

I agree raistlin..>

Sheridan, try setting the server address to oldgit1.co.uk/public_html

Re: ftp web site space

It would appear that you are missing an index page.....

index.html, index.php, index.htm or similar.

What was the first page of your old site called?

Re: ftp web site space

And that's the problem.

Your main page on your original site was called f10000.html

It's currently in the /_sgg/ directory.

Go to that directory, using your web browser, and click on that file. You'll find that your image locations are borked as well (they're not loading).

For example, the big picture of you on the front page is looking for:

http://www.oldgit1.co.uk/userfiles/oldgit1.jpg

but it won't find it because the /userfiles/ directory doesn't appear in your site structure.

Re: ftp web site space

No it's not a no goer, but you need to get the locations of files properly sorted.

Re: ftp web site space

Ummm..... Not necessarily a "no goer", the problem seems to be the way that your software is naming your site files and then the way that it uploads them.

Without going right back to basics and changing all the references on the different pages I'm not sure how to go about fixing it though.

I'm also not sure that if you did that you would get any benefit from it unless you ditched the software you are using at the moment or found a way to make it upload things "properly".

It's not a big site, so if you want me to take a look at straightening it out for you I'm happy to give it a go. Not sure how long it will take though..... It would also be reliant on you uploading the finished pages yourself once it was done, obviously I won't have access to your username/password.

Re: ftp web site space

I can see all the files in the root directory, would you like me to move them into the correct place for you?

The only issue that will occur, is when you want to update your website your updates wont work, as the files wont be in the right place.

Re: ftp web site space

Re: ftp web site space

KP,

It looks like the files are all within the right directory, there just isn't an index file (unless I'm missing something), also the image links point to a directory structure that doesn't exist (a directory called "userfiles").

Like I say, I might have missed something, you've got more sight of the situation than I have.

KingPhoenix 27-06-2005 17:26

Re: ftp web site space

yeah... there is an index file, and userfiles directory in the root area.....
