Personally, I just can't understand what all the fuss is about! The books and yes, I've briefly read the first paragraph or so of the first 'book' whatever it was called, isn't that good - even for a kids book. And why adults think its any good is beyond me, are they fighting against the ravages of time, or do they think its 'cool' ? This is my opinion and meant not to offend any 'grown-ups' on the forum. :p:  |

I for one prefer to save my judgements until I've read the whole thing. For the record, I've read all of the books (apart from the new one). Whilst they're not stunning in a literary sense, they are (nonetheless) good fun - and a fairly easily absorbed diversion. |
Re: Harry Potter
Harry Potter, I read two of them. And in my opinion it was poorly written and the story lacked anything that had not been done a thousands times before........Merlin the Wizard anyone!
But each to their own, they are great to prop a door open with though! :) |

Re: Harry Potter
They do get better after the first two, Neon :)
Bigger, with better developed plots & characters. Much better than the 1st two books. |
Re: Harry Potter
For me it is more about the world that the characters live in, somewhere amazing and wonderful, a bit of escapism. It is similar to something like Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia, a far away place full of magic and adventure that we all dream of but in the real world things like that will never happen.

The best way to do it, is to watch the first two movies to save reading the books, and then start on book 3 which is when it starts to get really interesting. Although, the movies may gloss over something in the book that might make something unclear in the latter books... |

The only 'childrens' book I've read and enjoyed, being the old grumpy man I'm rapidly turning into, was The Hobbit . Not a great book, but enjoyable none the less. Think I'll stick to video gaming as my last desperate attempt at staying young!LOL! :D |
Re: Harry Potter
I found this one a bit "Agatha Christie" and not as dark as the previous 2. Things do seem to be coming together nicely for the next one, trouble is it needs to be out now!!!

Re: Harry Potter
What books DO you like neon?
I've read all the books now, the latest taking only a day or so. I think they are written well, in thier own way, though I'm sure we could all question its literary value, there are some books that are not written as a piece of art as such, but purely to entertain, and that they do well! Latest book was good, though I disliked the ending, felt a bit as if shes tried to pad the book out a bit, and is missing things out. Can't say much more without giving hints |

Class! :tu: ;) As a footnote my favourite book by Terry Pratchett is Mort. Never laughed so much reading a book before. Brilliant stuff. :D |
