Out of interest my readings re example bit download are almost identical to post #46..only diff is rwin of 72500.....

peterska2 29-07-2003 23:06

thanking you for that.

you had me  for a min there

1st 128K took 19120 ms = 6855 Bytes/sec = approx 57 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 16690 ms = 7853 Bytes/sec = approx 65 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 22410 ms = 5849 Bytes/sec = approx 49 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 21320 ms = 6148 Bytes/sec = approx 51 kbits/sec

Hi...again...the above is a speed test AFTER 23mins:22secs with the bb boys after they altered just about all my settings...no diff...BUT a speed test on pcpitstop.com shows a d/load of 141kbits/sec!!!..so I am off to bed,cos dont know my A*** from my elbow now...and have no idea where I can get the definitive answer from...one of the tests must be wrong...surely??....yes??...no??....They did rec ethernet over usb...any comments anyone....PLEASE...  :wavey:

peterska2 29-07-2003 23:51

I use ethernet rather than USB. They told me that the speed test results are meaningless when I rang them earlier. I should really try downloading something and see how it works tonight but after last nights fiasco I really can't be bothered with the hassle.

kronas 29-07-2003 23:56

try this download peterska2 tell me what the max speed is that you get make sure you are not trying to upload or download while your d/l this

peterska2 29-07-2003 23:58

in that case your connection is fine your on 150k someone correct me if im wrong :p :D

peterska2 30-07-2003 00:01

yeah it is tonight.

dont know what was happening last night tho.

gonna run another speed test out of curiosity

Richard M 30-07-2003 00:02

For 150K, that's right.
I assume that you are using M$ IE to download so that sounds fine.

Next time, run a virus scan because a trojan could be using up your bandwidth and close any programs which use the net.

peterska2 30-07-2003 00:04

i still get this on my speed test tho

Tue, 29 Jul 2003 22:03:56 GMT
1st 128K took 16090 ms = 8146 Bytes/sec = approx 68 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 25050 ms = 5232 Bytes/sec = approx 44 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 19050 ms = 6880 Bytes/sec = approx 57 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 19500 ms = 6722 Bytes/sec = approx 56 kbits/sec

not worrying about it at the mo. if it grinds to a halt again then I'll come back to it.

tabatha 30-07-2003 00:06

If I can come in here...started at 45...very quickly down to 18/18.5...but was not going to wait 1hr 15 mins to complete!!...thanks kronas..will check for comments 2morrow...really is good nite time...

kronas 30-07-2003 00:06

i think you should ignore the speed test if your d/l at 18kb/s because thats spot on

sounds right too goodnight :)

i benchmark my speeds based on that link :p

peterska2 30-07-2003 00:08

so its just the speed tests giving us duff info then

*phewy

XFS03 30-07-2003 00:28

peterska2...the info for your speed can be found by clicking on 'Operation Configuration' and looking at 'Maximum downstream Data Rate', when using that first link.

As for the Tweak Tester results, it probably told you, on the left-hand side of the result screen, that your RWIN is too high. From my own experience, having RWIN set too high gives erratic download speeds but doesn't give consistently low speeds.

Anyhow, it seems after all that, that there may be a problem with the speed test, since I also download around 18kBytes/sec, but the speed test gives me results around 140-150kb/s. Strange.
