Re: [Merged] Is it Art?
There is a long history of cats and dogs being used in art with the artist often parodying human behavior to bring humour to their work.
For example The Bachelor Party... by Louis Wain. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...elor_party.jpg and Waterloo… by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ing20Poker.jpg Neither works were accepted at the time as being 'serious' pieces of Art but are accepted as such now. The same with many LOLcats creations now which only goes to show that art does not need to be serious or involve paint on canvas. |

Nice find Cobby thanks for the link. :tu:
A very talented young man, I just wish I had as much skill as he shows. I love drawing but will never be able to produce such beautiful detailed work. |

Much better :) Some interesting photos they remind me of the freeze frame photographs that used to be popular.
I guess this could be called Performance Art. I wonder if you could tell the difference between photos capturing images generated by a String Quartet as opposed to a heavy metal band? |

Re: [Merged] Is it Art?
That's performance as opposed to art. It's more a Happening as in Pop Art.:)

Re: [Merged] Is it Art?
Just looked at Maggy's link. I love the vibrancy of this work which combines two of my favorite things eyes and doodling. I would love her work box, just seeing all those pens and colours makes my fingers itch to do some artwork.

Re: [Merged] Is it Art?
Sorry Maggy I wasn't being insulting about her work.
My doodling is very detailed and includes both geometric patterns and real life subjects. I once did an A6 doodle for a godson who was fascinated by the jungle and all the animals were hidden amongst the foliage. It took me weeks of eye straining concentration to get it finished. I did it all in biro and used half a dozen pens before it was finished, worst choice of pen ever as biro ink goes brown with age. Some 20 years on he still has it but you can hardly make out the detail anymore as it has faded so badly. :( |

Not too sure about this.... Way too realistic and creepy for me.

Re: [Merged] Is it Art?
It would definitely depend on where this statue was placed. At the side of a road it could be a problem, in a pedestrian area it would be a talking point which presumably would achieve what it's creator wanted. A modern day 'David' in underpants. :D
|
Re: [Merged] Is it Art?
The rest of the exhibits are in the University gallery. Why they put this exhibit out there is a publicity stunt for the exhibition. However it's too realistic and I can see it being vandalised.

And yet some sculptures are meant to be touched.
Sadly Barbara Hepworths are very tactile and are clearly meant to be touched but galleries and museums won't let us touch them. http://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-st...epworth-museum http://www.nationalgalleries.org/col...record_id/2306 http://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/...re-no-2-t00953 |

Re: [Merged] Is it Art?
I found these art revisions very amusing. Works of Art? I don't know but if they make someone curious enough to look up the original painting then that's OK with me. Anything that can awaken an interest in the Arts has to be a good thing IMHO.
Now if they featured a fat dog I may have had another opinion. :) Cats rule OK. :D |
Re: [Merged] Is it Art?
I'm sorry but I cannot like them.If people want to paint their animals then do so but in their own style.Leave the classic artists alone. It smacks of a lack of respect..and a lack of originality.Any fool can photoshop..and frequently do.

Re: [Merged] Is it Art?
There are always haters. The art world is the art world and a mystery to many..I don't actually think there is a Banksy as such. I think it's a consortium of artists that want to eschew the norms of the 'art world' but the art world has it's own way of dealing with rebels and Banksy is slowly being dragged back into the fold.
|
Re: [Merged] Is it Art?
I don't see it as hating, it's interesting to read an interpretation as to what may or may not have happened. as the article says no matter how it was done, if the goal was getting ppl to talk about it, then that has been accomplished :)
he idea of Banksy being one person, a group, or a person that hands the title to the next Banksy is part of the fun I think, I'm not sure if it's like a superhero, or Spartacus :) |
