It may contain a treasure trove of Picassos but few have ever explored the riches in the Geneva free port art storage site.
Quote:

The Geneva free port is, from the exterior, a rather unimpressive warehouse in an industrial area of the city.
Inside, it is said to house the largest collection of fine art anywhere in the world, although it is hard to find out exactly what is in there, as both the port's management and local customs officials refuse to divulge any information.
Quote:

It is estimated there are at least 300 works by Picasso alone stored at the free port, many belonging to the reclusive Nahmad family, who have been buying and trading art as an investment for half a century.
The pieces they own are rarely seen in public although Zurich's museum of modern art did persuade the Nahmads to lend some of them for an exhibition in 2011.
One Nahmad family member has been quoted as saying that "Monet and Picasso are like Microsoft or Coca Cola", meaning that they are likely to be safe investments for a long time to come.

“The Good Samaritan” and “Christ at the Pool of Bethesda” are just two of almost 212,000 oil paintings in Britain that have been photographed and put online in a comprehensive project designed to make the country a cultural pioneer of the digital age.
The project, a collaboration that began in 2003 between the Public Catalogue Foundation and the BBC, aims to record all oil paintings owned by the nation “irrespective of perceived quality and condition.” That means everything from recognized masters in famous London galleries to the work of a councilman in a town in Somerset who painted his colleagues.

There is a long history of cats and dogs being used in art with the artist often parodying human behavior to bring humour to their work.

For example The Bachelor Party... by Louis Wain.

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...elor_party.jpg

and Waterloo… by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ing20Poker.jpg

Neither works were accepted at the time as being 'serious' pieces of Art but are accepted as such now. The same with many LOLcats creations now which only goes to show that art does not need to be serious or involve paint on canvas.

Spanish graffiti artist Raul Sanchez Araque, also known as House, has a varied portfolio of work under his belt - including spray-painting the outside of a sex shop and countless works of old-school guerrilla graffiti.
But it was a surprise when he was contacted by a priest at the Santa Eulalia church in l'Hospitalet, near Barcelona.
Could he, House, and fellow "graffitero" Rudi, paint a neo-Romanesque church? Specifically, the ceiling of the dome above the main altar?
The result is wonderful.:)

The portrait was previously thought to have been a copy and was in storage at the Bowes Museum in County Durham.

After an investigation by BBC Two's Culture Show, it has been verified by Van Dyck expert Dr Christopher Brown.

A collection of 1,500 artworks confiscated by the Nazis in the 1930s and 1940s has been found in the German city of Munich, media reports say.
The trove is believed to include works by Matisse, Picasso and Chagall, the news magazine Focus reports.
Some of the works were declared as degenerate by the Nazis, while others were stolen from or forcibly sold for a pittance by Jewish art collectors.
If confirmed, it would be one of the largest recoveries of looted art.
Investigators put the value of the works at about one billion euros (846m; $1.35bn), Focus said.

Sorry Maggy I wasn't being insulting about her work.

My doodling is very detailed and includes both geometric patterns and real life subjects.

I once did an A6 doodle for a godson who was fascinated by the jungle and all the animals were hidden amongst the foliage. It took me weeks of eye straining concentration to get it finished. I did it all in biro and used half a dozen pens before it was finished, worst choice of pen ever as biro ink goes brown with age. Some 20 years on he still has it but you can hardly make out the detail anymore as it has faded so badly. :(

I didn't think you were. It's just that I regard doodling to be a more free form sort of art letting the subconscious emerge.I think her work is more practiced and very carefully worked.I think it's very clever.

It would definitely depend on where this statue was placed. At the side of a road it could be a problem, in a pedestrian area it would be a talking point which presumably would achieve what it's creator wanted. A modern day 'David' in underpants. :D

There are always haters. The art world is the art world and a mystery to many..I don't actually think there is a Banksy as such. I think it's a consortium of artists that want to eschew the norms of the 'art world' but the art world has it's own way of dealing with rebels and Banksy is slowly being dragged back into the fold.
