Re: Promote your own website

Ok I was soo un happy about messing it up I threew It out the window and have started again. Theres plenty of harded webby people out on this forum so any glaring errors / constructive critism will be welcomed.

One of the things I would like to do would be to work out how add to the css a div thing for the xda advert so that it has a line above it and its linked to the page like the rest. That and work out a way to update all of the menu's at the same time on 26 pages its very time consuming if theres a duff link.

Hmm still more learning to do, ho hum....

Re: Promote your own website

i now have a couple of parts of my site constructed...

http://chris.chris4ann.co.uk/blog - my first ever blog
http://ann.chris4ann.co.uk/blog - ann's blog
http://www.chris4ann.co.uk/photos/ - photo album using 4images
http://www.chris4ann.co.uk/guestbook/ - advanced guestbook (just for trial really

at some point the site will be themed and put together with some more content. This weeks task is to make the CSS and hopefully the whole site will be finished by the time i go on holiday in three weeks!

May want to put this
Quote:

The latest additions to our wedding hire carriages. These two carriages will replace one of our older ones that will be kept (and?) just used for training. The second carriage will allow us to expand the horse drawn carriages allowing more bookings on one day.
I still feel we need to keep the area covered by the horses to our present boundaries for the present time; this will be under constant revue (review?) and as soon as we feel it is within our health and safety of the horses policy to extend the limits we will.
through word or something to clean it up a bit :)
Good work in progress though, I'm still learning to use HTML and have started to use a different piece of software for site building so hopefully my site and Chimaeras' will change at some point in the future.

I've put some piccies of our efforts on HF and VHF Field day on my website for the Farnborough Radio Club. The Field Day's are about erecting and operating a portable amateur radio station from a field as part of a competition to get the most radio contacts. We did quite well in the HF one, but no so good on the VHF. We really need to find a field on the top of a mountain.

HF Field Day 2004
VHF Field Day 2004

The pictures were taken with a Dimage 5 digital camera, which does a pretty good job, although the autofocus has a tendancy to stick. I was quite pleased with this action shot of Bernd using a catapult to get an antenna wire up into a tree. He actually succeeded on this shot.
http://www.qsl.net/fdrs/news/news050604_2.jpg

There's also a bit on our visit to Farnborough Air Sciences Trust earlier in the year, which I recommend to anyone interested in aviation.

a new website!

hello all, for the past few weeks me and a few of my freinds have been building a forum, the website is now live, but ofcourse we need users :) so with the permission gained from russ i present to you a new forum:

http://www.asianflex.tk/

the forum has a plethoria of category's from serious discussion of current affairs and other such related topics to a 'diary room' where you can post about your day to day stuff, it also has other specific specialist subjects such as car 'mods' and the latest help and advce on in-car speaker systems.

it even has a 'singles room' :naughty:

so check it out guys, other categorys are on the site, remember im not the one to blame for everything on there. ;)

OK, guys, I've set up a site to sell domain names - and at the moment we have a special deal on - for every domain that you register, you get a .info domain free for one year - The offer is limited to 25 .info domains per user. This deal will only last until December the 31st, so you have a little while yet, but not too long - this is only valid for new domains, not renewals or transfers.

This is a sample of the maximum prices (per year - but bear in mind some have 2 years minimum terms) :

.com £5.40

.co.uk £4.90

.net, .org £5.50

.biz, .us £5.25

.uk.com £19.99

We give discounts if you register for more than 1 year, on most domains, as well as discounts on volume purchases

You get email forwarding and url forwarding thrown in, free of charge, and you're allowed to change you dns records whenever you want, with no charge what so ever (unlike some sites do).

If you find one cheaper, let me know, and I will try to match it, I can't promise I'll be able to, but I will try.

The site is :domains.ghoticonsulting.com

Have spent many hours developing a mod for Battlefield1942.

If you know the game, you have played DesertCombat. This mod is AfghanCombat.....
Similar to DesertCombat, only instead of US Vs Iraq, it's UK Vs Afghanistan.

Hopefully, it will be ready for public release next month.

How come none of the images or the screenshots section work?

Not sure why the images arn't working for you, they work OK for ntl, blue yonder and BT ADSL customers that have already visited, as well as customers from providers in the USA and many other countries.

What browser are you using?

The screenshot link pointed to a members only area of the forum, which was a poor oversight on my part & has been amended. Thanx for the heads up ;)

Re: [Merged] Promote your own website

Its more of a forum than a fully fledged website, why dont you design a site around it, you're more likely to attract new visitors that way.

Re: [Merged] Promote your own website

I've finally, after nearly a month, got around to making & uploading the diary & photo galleries from my recent holiday in Prague.

Prague Holiday Photos & Diary

There are also a few other galleries there which have been added since whenever I last posted the link here. Although my fave gallery is still the original one, from my 2 week trip around Peru a year ago - Peru Holiday Photos & Diary

Of course, the site itself still looks crap.....I may eventually try doing it properly (if I ever learn how of course, LOL). I suppose I could maybe at least use one of the image gallery things that I-Web provide via Fantastico. If I can be bothered.

Is your 'assistant admin' a certain ex-member of this site by any chance?

I like the way they shortened the name from 'Emmerdale Farm' to 'Emmerdale' - that way they can pack more story in.

He's probably talking in code in his posts - when he talks about reconfiguring hardware, and debugging software, he's actually advertising himself as dominatrix...

No offence, Wayne, but why not try & come up with different actual forums, so you can attract members? Although some of the descriptions have now been changed, the forum names themselves are still pretty much a clone of the CF Basement. Why would someone who has seen your link here, at CF, be bothered about joining a rather lifeless copycat forum elsewhere? (when they would already be a member here, where there are rather more active forums of the same names)

Obviously, the problem with forums is that if they are dead, no one joins them, but if no one joins them, they stay dead.......

Perhaps you need something to base your forums around, rather than just simply having a bunch of forums.

Maybe an actual site, with some forums specific to it? Perhaps just start with a few relevant forums, then if you get the members, & people stay, you could add more forums & expand the place.

Re: [Merged] Promote your own website

Agreed.

I have a few forums, each is very unique and deals with the theme of the site.

www.stusplace.co.uk is my kinda general forum. I ran a forum at the same address for ages which was very similar to NTHW (.com at the time) which just never got used. I changed things around a fewtimes and eventualy came up with something that offers things to potential members.

www.sesforum.co.uk is a forum I set up for my on-line gameing clan, the South East Smugglers. We play Bf1942 and needed somewhere to keep in touch.

www.seslan.co.uk I set up as a spin off from the sesforum. We started arranging LAN partys and managed to get sponsership from Abit, DFI-Lan party, AMD and a few others. We were using part of the sesforum for LANS but once we could offer prizes like the new PCIE Radion RX600 and an AN7 NForce2 MoBo, we decided it was time to devote a site.

www.afghancombat.co.uk is dedicated to a mod I am writing for BF1942.

www.mapediting.co.uk is not in use at the moment... I set it up a while ago and offered help to people making their own BF1942 maps. After a few months, myself and a couple of members decided to do AfghanCombat. Trouble is, we just didn't have the time for both, so I closed MapEditing.
I will re-launch it after AfghanCombat is complete.

If you take a look at those links, you will see that the busyest forums arn't necesarily the ones which offer the most content.
For a forum to be popular, you need lots of members. To get lots of members, you need a popular forum.
Looks a bit catch22 at first doesn't it!
It's not realy, you just need to offer something to encourage people to sign up.

Look at your target audiance.
If you want people who are registered here to come register at your forum, there's no point in offering ANYTHINg which is already here. You need to look at what you feel is missing from here and work on that.

HTH
