yep agreed i cant see people paying for the speed for much longer if they do keep to the cap. you can see all the people who have gone on 2mb in here already. then everyones gonna leech em dry 75gb. its clear that people on 2mb want to d/l more than this so thats what there all gonna do. really makes little sense if the cap had been a bit more reasonable then no one would have cared. there just gonna loose alot money i think with all the people going on the unlimited service.

Indeed

I would have stayed on 10 meg if the cap had been set at 150 gig :Yikes:.

If you want unlimited then go on an unlimited service, simple as that.

I agree with him, since after all the people on that service are paying considerably more then 24.99 a month. I also find it debateable they can do this legally without providing the tools to monitor your own usage.

I agree with this and the above comment, I think someone leeching 600gig on 2mbit costs ntl more then someone leeching 75gig on 10mbit, and to top it off they make less revenue out of the first.

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)

its the same with most companies offering broadband they are all capped, even the ones that offer unlimted

wanadoo saying you can have 8 meg via a bt line, if the phone line can not operate this speed that another speed would be offered and again a download limit

agree, all seems abit weird, but then they would send you a letter with the "effecting other peoples internet" and then downgrade you to 512k.

Maybe thats the secret, get all the heavy downloaders onto the 2meg then see actually the real amount they are downloading then punish them.

Also this 2meg, why can we as 10meg not downgrade via website, and ALSO why isn't it really advertised and advertised properly, its only on here that i would know about the 2/1meg unlimited as the website although states Unlimited still states user allowances.

Well my BB now costs 24.99 again :) no caps to worry about.

I think theres soon going to be a separate section for 2meg users.
Save some room for the rest of us. ;)

Precisely! I've donwnladed 110 gigs on my 1meg this month so far, I'll see what happens!

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)

On a 1meg connection nothing should happen, as they should now be unlimited.

Well, I looked on www.ntlhome.com today to see if they had finally updated the pages for 1mb and 2mb and, yes, they have. On all the pages (including the dreaded AUP) it says "Download as much as you like" (paraphrased). So WOO! etc.

Ignition 23-01-2006 15:53

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)

But will still, of course, have the 'really take the michael and we can pwn you' phrases as every ISP in Christendom does :)

they still had to get this in...

ntl monthly usage allowances

What does unlimited mean?

Our 1Mb and 2Mb Broadband services offer unlimited usage. This means you can surf the internet for as long as you like and download music or video files as much as you want without worrying about going over your monthly allowance giving you total peace of mind. A user policy applies For more information on our User Policy

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)

But have a look at said AUP - not a dicky bird about michael taking. It seems more concerned in you not running a server, shopping online safely and running virus checkers.

I think it all comes down to fair use. Is it fair to run your connection 24/7 and pull in 600gb of stuff you'll never watch/play/use and possibly bugger up other people's uses?

Then again, as what appears to be happening in my area once you hit peak time of an evening, is it fair that someone who doesn't know what they are doing throttles the UBR with their crappy bit torrent uploads, clicks on any attachment and throttles the UBR with a bazillion pieces of spam shooting from their machine? NTL should be able to spot this sort of activity and alert the customer.

need your advice guys on something.

When there was a cap on the 2mb plan, I went well over that limit daily and yet received no warnings or complaints. And im thinking of going for 10mbit upgrade with the 75gig limit, because i dont think i will get *caught* (touchwood) if i do go over the limit, mainily because i live in a small town, not in a busy congested networked city

What you think, good idea? or am i pushing my luck?

Pushing your luck, plus the 10mb isnt what it used to be for many people who are on it... me included! have been getting 4mb for the past week or so! but the other day I managed 6.5mb WOW!... there's a few members on here that have already moved down to the 2mb unlimited because it seems to be more reliable and you can download as much as you like when you like...

Chrysalis 23-01-2006 18:46

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)

I moved down to the 2meg it isnt any more reliable and I still struggle to top 1meg burst but it stops me paying for 10x what I recieve.

I think the limit will be stricter now to be honest.

Paul 23-01-2006 20:22

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)

The limits will be strict when the relevant technology is introduced (current eta is later in the year).

As long as they stay off the 1MB. ;)

I've just had my NTL bill and it now says on it "1mb Unlimited".
Does that mean the cap has now been lifted for good ?

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)

If my 2mb connection is truely 'unlimited' then why when do I consistently get disconnected after downloading about 1.5gb of data? I have to restart the modem as I usually get cut-off during the night if I leave my pc on.

Hans Gruber 15-02-2006 17:50

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)

well that sounds more like a fault rather than NTL cutting you off when you hit 1.5gb

that's because the 3 for £33 deal includes 1meg broadband. 1meg broadband is now unlimited. hence, no cap on 3 for £33 ;)

I know this question has been asked a fair few times, but what are the likely Over-Limits before a customer would recieve a warning, or put on the naughty tier.

Because an  like me occasionally goes just a few gig over. Is it likely I would be bent over for this???

i think until ntl give a bw monitor ,plead ignorance ,me personally get 8-10 got 11.89 off tiscali test

Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)

I know for a fact that i have gone over the cap every now and again but not by too much, havent had a letter, phone call or email from anyone at NTL as of yet. TBH i dont realy care if i do after the state of my connection for the past 2 weeks is diabolical they may as well restrict my service i doubt whether i would notice the difference at times. And i have rung CS, tech support constantly and get told the same old same old that there is nothing they can do at this point in time. Hardly an incentive for people to tow the line when NTL cannot an dwill not sort out the vast amount of problems that people are experiencing.
