When will Virgin rename Channel 5 as 5?

Maybe they think everyone uses the logos and doesn't check EPG Names / Service Names. ;)

Indeed, which should come as a relief to Sheffielders as they used to get this which, for some reason, is still running.
Rebranding as That's TV South Yorkshire is a stretch. The signal from their Grenoside & Crosspool transmitters barely covers Sheffield.

They are such rebels at Virgin TV, this week they rebranded Sky Family as Sky Harry Potter a day early and completely ignored Sky Hits rebranding as Sky The Hobbit.
Wait! I'm making this worse aren't I? :D

how many local channels are actually left! cant be many! it was such a cheap idea in theory. should have just let amateurs upload tv shows on dodgy cameras like youtube. i'd have watched some of the shambolic viewer submission videos for laughs.

instead they tried to be a professional tv channel and compete with channels with actual money...fools

Local TV in the UK was always going to be difficult, as production costs are expensive compared to having an online outlet where you don’t have to “fill” unused airtime. Community radio is thriving both online & broadcast, so I suppose those in power thought what was good for radio would work with TV & bring in income from the used spectrum. In reality it was never viable, resulting in the usual “hoover up” of franchises by a dwindling number of operators.

I really did like the first idea for Local TV in 2010 - Channel 6 (Run like ITV was from 1955 to 1990s [Local broadcast make UK wide shows but have they own lineup])

I mean Cable Forum (A Tech show) would be shown in London at 6.30pm but shown in Leeds at 5pm.

It was always going to be difficult without a sustaining service between news bulletins. Production costs for local tv can't have been high, a student presenter, a camera and a report filmed outdoors was a preferred option. It's cheap. Even some of the "studio" based stuff was cheap. A room, a desk, a green screen and an automatic camera again presented by a student. Cheap as chips and it looked it.

Last month VM replaced the Mini 360 boxes with Stream boxes for multiroom with new customers. The next stage (which has not hit the press yet) has now been soft released. Take a look at VMs website & you will find all mention of the V360 boxes has been removed from the new customer offers.

They've also used a tiny version of the 5STAR logo in the EPG. It should be same size as the 5STAR+1 logo so the 5 part is a consistent size with all their other channels. Some people will need a magnifying glass to see the current one 😂

Ever since we moved to Tivo-based from the previous gen boxes I’ve always switched off the logos at the first opportunity. The mix of typeface styles alone makes reading the EPG unpleasant. Text based interfaces are almost always preferable to graphical ones when it comes to TV controls in my opinion.

Indeed. I find some of the EPG idents illegible, especially on the 360. At least on the V6 you could replace them with text. As far as I am aware Sky don't use the logos on their EPG, they use lager text channel names instead which makes it a lot more precise and easier to follow.
Please VM follow suit or give us 360/ Stream viewers the option back to change.

There's a text-based version available by pressing 555 on the remote. Though it's primarily an accessible EPG, hence the large text size, and functions differently.

Do ITV Game shows NOT broadcast as a Linear channel right now under the name Challenge?

ozsat 16-04-2025 17:04

Re: Virgin TV (2025)

Challenge tv is a Sky channel which shows old games shows from maninly BBC, ITV and even Channel 4. A lot is quite old.

I suspect ITV Quiz is going to be just recent ITV material and will be replaced by something else later.

There are various different channels names come and go on ITVX.

Isn't on Virgin at all

Discovery+ isn't likely to ever appear on Virgin now with Max (HBO, Warner Bros , DC, Adult Swim, Discovery, TNT Sports) launching early next year with Virgin apparently in discussions about that.

Looks like Cartoon Network & Boomerang will be closing as linear channels (but Sky & Now customers will still be able to access the programmes as HBO will be added to their packages at no extra cost in a similar way as Discovery+ etc is).

I've heard that Virgin are negotiating to get HBO. Has anyone heard anything more about this or if we will also be getting it for free?

Since read they close on Foxtel in Australia just 6 weeks after Max launched in Australia

It was carefully worded in press release about Cartoon Network , Cartoonito & Boomerang, Definitely leaves open the possibility of the channels closing with content from the channels still available on Max.
Quote:

The deal also sees Turner Kids content on channels including Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and Boomerang remaining part of Sky and NOW’s comprehensive offering for years to come.
https://www.skygroup.sky/article/sky...ndle-agreement

Max is basically replacing Discovery+ entirely, which has been shut down in several countries outside the U.S

I get why it isn't called HBO but should really be called Warner , Georgie & Mandy First Marriage premiered on Max in Europe on 3rd April for example

Mostly Sky UK Original drama by the looks of it, most recently Day Of The Jackal , Sweetpea and Gangs Of London.

They also showed Small Town Big Story on both Sky Max and Sky Atlantic which is bizarre.

Sky Atlantic largely becomes pointless when Max launches, they still have some existing HBO shows as co premieres but that's it.

I can see both Sky Atlantic and Sky Showcase closing.

With shows listed on your post moving to other Sky branded channels.

Channels are doomed anyway. It’ll just be a Sky streamer, like NOW.

Sky doesn't even use channel branding on promotional posters anymore , only 'Sky'

really doesn't make sense the name sky Atlantic now. If they couldn't convince people to get it during that bandwagon tv show game thrones (which the book series will never be completed which is hilarious) they never will now.

Since it's completely different management now, I doubt they would have any qualms retiring the Sky Atlantic brand.

I’ve been saying this since 2015, but it hasn’t sunk in yet with some people on this forum. I only mentioned it because you were lamenting the possible closure of Sky Atlantic and Sky Showcase, as if this sort of thing was entirely unexpected.

What have I been saying all these years?!!

To be honest we're all still trying to get your original prediction to sink in. You know, the one from years ago about Sky Atlantic about to be added to Virgin's line-up.

Still waiting... :D

Yes, very true, but I was not privy to the terms Sky was offering Virgin, which in the end were unsuccessful.

I say again, the ‘prediction’ is simply my view. We all have views, don’t we?

So far, mine is coming true. I still stand by it. The only channels left (bar government intervention) will be streaming channels. Everything else will be on streamers.

Just my humble opinion.

Aha! so that is the difference. This time you are privy to the terms of every streamer and every channel. Right, I get it now...:erm:

No, I’m not. That’s why it’s a prediction rather than a statement of fact.

What you should have said is The only channels left (bar government intervention) will, in my opinion, be streaming channels. Everything else will, in my opinion, be on streamers.

Anyway, moving on from your flights of fantasy and back to the real world.. that moment everyone has been waiting for  - High Street TV Shop has now launched on channel 759.

OB will be sending out invitations to the Wokingham celebratory street party (allegedly). ;)

The KM group in Kent (Who own 50% of KM Television Limited [Latest TV]) has been sold to publishing group Iliffe Media.
I have today found out that Iliffe Media did acquired KM Media Group in April 2017.

really thought 3D tv would take off that time as sky sports got involved into it. I went to a bar once and tried the glasses and couldn't see any difference whatsoever...but maybe its because i had to take my glasses off to wear the 3d glasses...

The fact you had to wear glasses at all killed 3D, plus it just didnt work very well.

3DTV was a solution without a problem. You never watch TV and think "if only I could tell whether A is in front of B"

The channel is operated by Hearst rather than Sky so I doubt it
https://www.hearstnetworks.com/news/...gramming-slate

The channel does still show History programming unlike Eden which doesn't show any nature programming at all now.

why on earth is it called sky then? have they literally paid to license the "sky" name for their channel?

Yes, although technically the channel is a joint venture with Sky but Sky don't manage and operate the channel themselves

Same with Sky Crime in Italy which replaced Crime+Investigation
https://www.hearstnetworks.com/brands/italy/sky-crime

For now they remain separate channels in the UK

That would be interesting considering Inter Barcelona was a pleasure to watch. Watching PSG was entertaining too bar the Arsenal tie which was boring due to Artetas management style still PSG made something of the tie.
