Good news for me as MTV is the only channel that I miss after downgrading.

That’s a confusing statement.

Are you saying that everyone else losing MTV (because you don’t have it now) is a good thing?

If MTV moves to Paramount+ it means that I will receive it again.

It won't make any difference to Sky customers as I believe that they get Paramojnt+ thrown in at no extra cost.

Technically the channels have already moved , just the channels haven't closed , the main MTV is available on Paramount+ which includes reality premieres like Jersey Shore today
and the latest season of South Park will available on Paramount+ tomorrow

MTV clearly doesn't mean music anymore, MTV Entertainment Studios is a odd thing.

The channels haven't 'moved' - it's merely that some content on the channels is also available on Paramount+.

Comedy Central for instance, only has 7 programmes available for on Paramount+ with none of their British originals available at present, with all of them remaining exclusively on Sky/NOW and Virgin Media.

Are the live channels as broadcast available? If not, maybe it's a carriage contract agreement so they have to wait until 2025 before pulling them from Virgin and adding them to Paramount +??

No, the channels On Demand content in case of MTV, Paramount+ UK doesn't yet have Live channels

There is 2 MTV branded Live channels on Pluto TV - MTV Classic and MTV Reality

Not sure if they can close Comedy Central UK as Sky still appear to have 25% stake in it.

Cheers.

I suppose they could just sell their stake. ISTR that they sold their share in Nickelodeon in order to launch Sky Kids.

Sky have now announced their price rise.:

The average increase will be 8.1% which is lower than Virgin who are putting theirs up ny 13.8%. Pure greed at a time when many people are struggling.

Almost as bad as Plusnet’s, EE’s & BT’s 14.4% rise, and TalkTalk’s 14.2% rise.

Sky are undoubtedly the best value for T,V, apart from maybe those who want BT Sport. Even then they have to factor in an extra subscription for Now TV if they also want Sky Atlantic (and are effectively paying for the Sky channels twice).

For those who aren't bothered about being able to record, Now TV as a complete replacement is a no brainer if it has all the channels you want.

BT allows you to record Now TV though. BT offered me half price Now TV for 2 years, a free installation of a landline and said that they would buy me out of my Virgin contract.

Depending on what you want Sky stream might be a better option as that has a lot more channels including the Discovery and Nat geo ones which now doesn't have.
Atm there is a free 1 month trial on it, no upfront fee, nothing to pay for a month then a monthly rolling contract at £29p/m.

£29pm is a lot more than Now TV Entertainment (£10pm) with a current offer of £12pm for Now Entertainment with Now Cinema. Even if it does include Netflix.

I think they're basically aimed at different markets - Now TV is an add-on for Freeview and Freesat users. Sky Stream covers the free and paid-for channels like Sky satellite or VM.

...and for Virgin customers who want access to Sky Atlantic or who want to save money by downgrading to Mixit and replacing the lost channels with Now TV instead of paying for the channels twice.

I never pay Now TV standard pricing. By going through the online cancellation proces, the cheapest Sky Movies I've had is for free and the cheapest Entertainment £1 a month.

Exactly. Each service has pros & cons & prices vary.

To escape the forthcoming price rise, I urge people to do a channel audit to see what channels th ey watch (and for how long) and then look for the cheapest option that gives them what they want.

For Virgin customers this could mean changing supplier or simply downgrading their TV pack (you'd be surprised what the lowest pack-Mixit- now offers.

Definitely used to be the best deals on Now TV, whether they're so generous now I'm not sure.
I suspect it's just keen VM TV viewers like those on this forum who get Now TV to get Sky Atlantic. Most VM viewers probably don't know it exists!

Apparently, there is an option to get Sky Stream for £26 if you agree to a contract. It's 18 months I think.

Yes , if you want to Skip ads it's a extra £5pm on either rolling or 18 month contract and there is also no proper recording facility on Sky Stream/Glass

But the stream does include discovery+ too the top tier and movies on stream includes paramount+ so it kind of balances itself out.

Yes 18 months contract you can get sky sports too for £22p/m instead of £27p/m if you agree to 18 month contract but even £27p/m is a lot cheape than what it is on now, as i said it kind of balances itself out depending on what you want from tv.
One huge plus about both NOW and stream is none of those awful shopping and religious channels.

I’ve never once paid £6 the max I’ve paid is £2.

SonicMaster 11-02-2023 18:41

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2023)

When our current deal with VM is over we'll definitely consider moving down to the Mixit tier now that all the HD versions are included for the free TV channels, as we could get NOW for the pay TV channels we actually watch instead of using VM.

Many of the best pay TV channels that we used to watch have now closed down or been subsumed into Sky's portfolio. There is very little we watch that isn't included on NOW and it may be cheaper than paying for Maxit. That's not currently the case so depends on whether that changes.

NOW with HD channels will be £15.99 from next month, where the price difference between Mixit and Maxit is currently £9.51 so we'd obviously stick with VM if that's still the case.

Another group of channels changing transport streams to add to your list:

5STAR +1
Animal Planet +1
Babenation
Colors Gujarati
Create & Craft
Ideal World
Sky Sports Arena

Probably more to follow in the coming days as Virgin moves services around to fill the gaps left by the recently removed SD services.

Extra viewers using the +1s brings in more cash from advertisers for very little effort by the broadcaster.

The extremely low cost of broadcasting content you already own is presumably more than offset by viewers. Viewers who are presumably actually watching live, therefore watching the adverts.

It also gives a brand/family of channel greater prominence in EPGs.

Exactly , I tend to use it as a) a time shift , to avoid ads ,long , boring car driving , filler etc. Or b) because two shows are on at the same time . Now and then because I am hooked on a Netflix show.

Depends on Virgin's contract with Al Jazeera.

Video stream stats are: H.264 Video, 16:9, 704x576i, 25 fps, 4:2:0

So definitely not HD.

You must have renegotiated and got put onto another version/tier as I don't tjink they'd be able to remove channels unless you changed something about package.

XL was basically what became Full House, to my recollection, and there were two versions of that, one with Kids TV and one without.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2023)

XL/Full House still has the Kids channels, It's when Maxit became the top core pack that Kids became a paid add on.

A different transport stream, it's just Virgin moving services around to fill in the gaps left by the recently removed SD simulcast channels.

Just a heads up that anyone having those channels set as "favourites" will need to reset them. Probably more changes to come over the next few days.

XL = Fullhouse for legacy subscriptions. There is also a, confusingly named, "Full House" addon that is a part of the "Maxit" bundle of subscription codes and it doesn't include the kids or south Asian channels that were in the legacy Full House. The "Full House" addon isn't sold separately, only as a part of Maxit.

Eurosport (U.K & Ireland only) will become part of this new brand at some time in the future.

TNT Sports will have a dedicated brand for the U.K & Ireland that reflects the fan-first approach for which BT Sport has become renowned.

It will be swapped for a diskless V360 mini box if you are already on V360.

I wonder, if a V6 is swapped for a 360 non PVR that can't record due to a fault or forced migration, if this will be regarded as a major change to the contract and, thus, cancellation rights will apply?

You are speculating about a process that hasn't started yet.

Rob King hadn't used his second V6 for four years so it's not important whether the new box has a disk anyway.

Update on Saturday I contacted the vm chat about the uhd sky sports channels the person told me I already subscribe to them and asked me to switch over to them and behold they are not active omg why is it these chats I have had telling me there on my account but can't see them

I meant make sure they aren't charging you the additional fee for the UHD channels (as opposed to the extra box) if they say you're receiving them, but aren't.

If you don't need the 2nd box, it might be worth checking to see if you'd save money by getting rid of it.

That would make BBC Three HD within the top 24 slots that Virgin need to do by September.

But if I was the EPG boss for Virgin I would move BBC Three to channel 108 with BBC Four (Set to close by 2025) to Channel 113. With Local TV moving from Channel 159 to Channel 107/120 and moving ITVBe +1 to Channel 176.

---------- Post added at 17:37 ---------- Previous post was at 16:59 ----------

would be like this:

England:
107. Local TV
108. BBC THREE HD
113. BBC Four HD
161. BBC ALBA HD
162. BBC Scotland HD
166. S4C HD
176. ITVBe +1

107. BBC Scotland HD
108. BBC THREE HD
113. BBC Four HD

176. ITVBe +1

Wales:
107. Channel 4 HD
108. BBC THREE HD
113. BBC Four HD
120. Local TV

I wondered what had happened. I can't see the channel names in my recordings, so went by the colours.

I'll have to get used to them again, but the World Service used to be red, now I can't really see a colour at all. I wish they'd have left things as they were tbh.

"ITV will maintain the LittleBe pre-school segment on ITVBe and will offer some children’s content in the early mornings on ITV2 from September with strong cross promotion to ITVX."

I'd imagine some Kids content will remain on main ITV channel for its PSB obligations. Tends to be weekend mornings at the moment, I think.

It's the end of a 40 year era for CITV. It makes sense now why CITV didn't get a refresh along with the other channels last year.

This decision doesn't surprise me. My 7yo never watches the broadcast kids channels. It's streaming all the way so she can binge whatever she finds that she likes.
