Well there was a shock result in the Spanish cup when Atletico Madrid lost to third-tier minnows Cornella so all is not lost..;)

You have to love these non league sides. Not sure if it was on national news but locally we had an item on the Marine v Spurs game. It showed one side of the ground with a high netting fence down one side with numbers every few yards. These are the numbers of the doors they have to go and knock on to ask for the ball back. :D Brilliant.

Thing is its 11 v 11 on the day. One side will be fitter and more skillfull, but the others will be playing the games of their lives which gives them a chance.
The FA Cup is brilliant , but can't help feeling its l8st something, since its not the be all and end all for Premiership sides anylonger. They seem more worried about injury.
Anyway come on Marine, kick the hell out of them !
Real shame there isn't a crowd, as that helps the non,-leaguers a lot. The Prem. boys dont like a genuinely
passionate crowd being a couple of feet away !

Nick De Marco met Newcastle officials in the Emirates last night amid suggestion that the Saudi Arabia takeover of the club could be completed by March.

That follows restored relations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar and brings an end to the piracy dispute between the nations regarding the Premier League and Bein sports.

As of now, legal action against the league is still ongoing.

Liverpool the better team and never a free kick in a million years. Watched Boro vBlackburn game early and how the referee couldn't see that kick in the face as anything other than a Penalty and sending off I'll never know.

Easy to have lots of shots on goal if you sit back and wait for your opponents to attack you then nick the ball and feed your speed merchant to race through and shoot at goal!

I mostly saw the same game you watched although I hate to admit the Mancs did look quite good and have done for a while. We also looked the best we've been for some time and the game could have gone either way. The free kick however was soft as.....

The problem for Liverpool currently is their own fluid system from back to front is misfunctioning and that will cost us any chance of silverware this season that is for sure as the title is between the two Manchester clubs IMO.

If City can overcome the loss of De Bruyne for six weeks then my money would be on them. United are still to easy to score against for my liking.

I agree the free kick was a little on the soft side but viewed from behind, Fabino did hit Cavani in the back of his leg with his knee, careless and a foul, soft or otherwise.

Love the look of the Wycombe manager.:D

But can Man City overcome the loss of De Bruyne as he creates much what goes through their team..

As we all know injuries to key players can kill any teams chances of the title.

Some say Thiago is slowing it down too much in midfield but I can't see that myself, if anything we're currently missing Henderson more than we probably should. We're just going through a bad patch which hopefully will end as quickly as it started, it generally takes one good performance to kickstart things. We're 6 points behind with half the season to go, I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet. :)

Who? as they don't grow on trees at the best of times and this time of year its nigh on impossible to get a decent centre back and even if one did get one players take a time to adjust to the league.

No l think Liverpool have made the right decision even though its going to cost them short term.

I think the Yanks are stalling on actioning any big transfers so not looking too promising from our perspective. With hindsight it was probably a bad idea to let Lovren go but at the time we had four centrebacks for two positions and he was bottom of the pecking order. Of course we couldn't anticipate the antics of our noisy neighbours alehouse goalkeeper and the sudden brittleness of Gomez and Matip.
I think VVD will be back before season end but possibly not soon enough.

The problem is Fabinho and Henderson are the engine of the midfield and by playing them as centre backs you take that midfield thrust away.

Thiago is a quality player who will be much better next season.

A Liverpool supporter never throws in the towel but one has to be realistic rather then being over optimistic.:)

I think VVD will back back before season end but possibly not soon enough.

l would say they are not stalling but are being realistic as you tell me who can they get at this time of the season?.

There's a lot of chatter about various players on Liverpool forums, some of whom I've never heard of but yes you're right it's a problem, we've got a week to find someone who fits the bill and is cheap as chips. Maybe JK has a cunning plan :erm:

They're not missing DeBruyne at all. City are more than just one player. Granted he's class but others can fill the gap as tonight showed.

Anyone know why Villa are wearing black armbands?

Edit. Might be for former manager Dr Jozef Venglos.

Very poor from Man United all round, just can’t break down teams that sit back and can’t keep a clean sheet either.

It was indeed a superb 3rd goal and so unselfish of Hanford not to try and take the shot himself. Leeds were the better team.

It was in fact a classic counter attacking goal, something you dismissed as parasitic football earlier.:p:

A terrific piece of two pass, counter attacking ‘parasitic football’ from Liverpool. :D

Strange game, odd decisions from VAR, thought the Saints player Adams was onside, think Martial dived. Thought the Cavani pen was 50/50.

And now a bloody ridiculous red card. Mike Dean is a wassock.

As is all too often, if you looking at the play in slow motion, you can clearly see the "offending" player makes a move before the other player arrives. Neither player had possession. The contact could just as easily have ended up the other way around.

Why should player A be penalised simply because they are the first to move, and player B moves into their path.
Not a fan of either side, but get annoyed about this general type of situation.

Well apart from the stud marks at the top of Mc Tominays thigh that is .

And he was nowhere near the ball.

It should be more about intent, rather than outcome.
He ended up nearer the ball. It's not as if the other player had the ball and he charged in. At the moment the Southampton player went for the ball with his foot, the Man Utd player wasn't there or in the line of where his foot was going. The Southampton player was standing upright on his left leg at the point of contact. It was the Man Utd player moving forward into him. If the Man Utd player had stuck his leg out towards the ball, and then the Southampton player moved, that would be a different matter.

A classic example is nobody is near a defender and they decide to clear the ball with an overhead kick. At that point in time, no danger to anyone, but an attacking player runs up and gets in the way. It's not as the normal everyday walking or driving a car, where you're expected to anticipate what others might do, and let them pass.
Too many instances where if you look at things in slow motion, there couldn't have been intent, even if they wanted to.

The first decision was spot on but the second decision of the night was a Mike Dean special sadly.

Sorry but you are completely wrong.

McTominay clearly got to the ball first and played the ball, the Saints player was high, late and nowhere near the ball.

The fact that he had passed over the ball demonstrates that he was first to the ball as enough time passed to be beyond it. His knee was over the ball before McTominays foot had reached it. The Saints player had stopped moving forward when raising his leg, McTominay was still moving forward when he raised his.
There doesn't appear too much, if anything, of full-on contact with the Saints players foot. It brushed inside McTominays right leg. It was much more the result of McTominay moving forward and bumping into the relatively static other player.
