The printed TV guide that came with the newspaper doesn't reflect the changes so there'll be a lot of confused people about.

@MB thanks for the changed numbers list in the other thread. :tu:

Why even get history hd ? I'll be annoyed by it to be honest since it's the biggest scam of a channel ever. Nothing history related. Maybe if they called it pawn stars hd id find it more acceptable for the channel to launch

I even try to call them out on Twitter about their lack of history but I never get a reply from the sell outs

I find most uk networks don't respond on twitter i've tweeted sky1, uktv, btsport, history, itv, bbc, channel5 about programme related stuff and never got a response the only networks who responded were channel4, mtv and most usa networks respond had responses of abc, amc, nbc, fox, hbo and starz.

Stupid question :erm:...is the current deal due to run out soon? :)

Universal HD would be a great addition to the VM line-up.

Think that's only for the Freeview platform. On VM and Sky it will make BT Sport Europe FTV for some matches. It can't do that on Freeview as BT Sport is not present on that platform.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

There is chat on other forums that Sky & BT have both agreed a deal with La Liga were the rights are split between them, no details as of yet just a rumour for now.

Slightly off topic I know but it certainly increases the appeal of BT Sport Europe.

I actually think that they should make L a bit better with a few more HD channels, the difference between M+ and L is so small its almost pointless having two.

If you broke down the cost of XL by channel then we would all moan about the cost of different elements we don't watch/use. I'd probably moan about the charges for all the Sky channels.

However BT Sport (and ESPN, Setanta before hand) has probably delivered/retained significant extra numbers to help keep the overall price competitive. XL compares well to the Sky equivalent with their HD add on.

Will be interesting as these are the last set of major football rights up for grabs for the next year or so.

Think I'm going to have get a new TV mag - Total TV (cheap) doesn't even acknowledge that BT exists, the channels are there (with the exception of Europe) but channel numbers are for Sky & VM and Freeview/Freesat. Gave up on RT years ago, ironically because it was full of chitchat & recipes, might have to revisit.

Thank you gents, I've already bought this week's Total but I'll give TV & Sat a go next week and checkout the online at zingzing & RT. I prefer the printed because I go through & mark the progs I want to record, then sit back & watch football all week with the recordings as filler.

Thanks I have read that too, but with Lifetime on 274, CI on 275 and no other gaps (apart from 272, which I'm guessing is for History HD?) I wonder where Lifetime HD will go when it launches?

Lifetime belongs in the entertainment section of the EPG

My 95yo mum thinks £5 is enough to give someone at Christmas. She told me the other day that Mr Alabama was coming to visit this country but his father had rang him to say they were lighting fires in Africa so he's gone there instead. Even a fiver's looking dodgy this year.

No news but it's got to be looking slightly more likely today with two developments:
1) The big-money deal with Clarkson, Hammond & May (£160m)
2) The appointment of Alex Green to a new role at Amazon signalling big intentions for the UK market.

it means theyre wanting to penetrate the uk market more. Putting an important person in charge of the uk market division as amazon see it as a market they want to try and dominate more.

They've hired over Netflix the hottest 3 agents in the tv market.

Chances are amazon now mean business with all this so the likelihood of them wanting to be on as many tv packages as possible increases. A tie up with vm to rival Netflix who have their app on the vm TiVo service would seem more likely based on all their noise.

- does anyone know when bt sport Europe launches tomorrow??? I cant see any tv listings for them.

Itll be on tv anywhere but I enjoy watching stuff in my works toilet and my work doesn't have wifi :( so ill be screwed on those long Tuesday nights in work missing champions league football :(

Amazon Video is a tool for driving Prime subscriptions , they are already on many devices. Amazon want to keep customers in their own ecosystem as much as possible ie buying prime , fire devices , apps etc.

I'm not saying it will never arrive on a pay tv box however personally I can't see it happening anytime soon that said what do I know. This is just my personal opinion and I will happily admit I was wrong should it happen.

I agree with this although a source told me in past it was going to launch on vm tivo by end of 2015 i personally can't see it, Amazon are currently pushing their fire tv devices, and concentrating on original content they have just recently signed up the top gear trio.

Not many people are going to buy a Fire TV box who don't have Prime video, so adding it to Tivo could entice more subscribers, who may also buy a Fire box or Stick for the bedroom.

The potential downside is for VM in my view, as more people could be tempted to downgrade to M TV and just use that coupled with Netflix and Amazon video via Tivo. However VM have previously expressed an interest in having Amazon video. VM couldn't have added Amazon to Tivo prior to early 2015 anyway as Prime video hadn't been developed for Tivo until then. Now it could be added if both parties want it.

Prime video was added to the US Tivo Premier (which software wise VM's Tivo is based on) earlier this year. I believe the Roamio got it late 2014. Prior to that, US Tivos could only download purchased Amazon video titles and not stream video from Amazon.

Agreed. It's a tough calculation for Virgin to make. If Amazon and Netflix pay VM a fee it might suit VM for customers to pay smaller monthly bills to VM if they're getting commission from Amazon and Netflix. One issue might be YouView; if Amazon Prime launches on that then VM might decide that it may as well host Amazon Prime. It's an interesting thing to follow.

We also don't know what the deal is with VM and Netflix and perhaps Netflix has an exclusivity deal on TIVO that assures them as being the only one on the platform in UK.

I wondered about that. But as Amazon has Netflix is on its devices, I suspect that Netflix would not have this type of exclusive agreement with VM as Amazon may not be so willing to continue the relationship.

Because it has european football on it?? but bt sport 1 and 2 have had european football on for many years. should be called bt sport 3 and at least the logo would be smaller...but bt want a nice shiny fancy name to sell their broadband ;)

Amazon's business model simply doesn't make sense, they sell the Fire TV and Stick at a loss and make the money back on subs. They are great boxes though however they simply need to be on everything like Netflix that will drive subs more then anything. To amazon it doesn't matter if I watch Instant streaming on A fire TV or via Kodi they still get my money, not having it on all devices is illogical

Having said that if you want Amazon Instant Streaming there is no point in waiting for it to come to Virgin just get one of their Fire TV or Sticks then yo will realise how bad the apps are on Tivo.

I can see what your saying but Amazon is so different to Netflix for instance with Amazon you can rent/purchase the latest titles which would be a direct and probably cheaper rival to Virgin Movies. I'm not sure who the Virgin Movies service is provided by but who knows what the current contracts allow for.

On Amazons own products they also have the ability to sell other Amazon products such as apps , games etc it pays for them to keep you in their own ecosystem.

Given that Virgin have already made an approach to Amazon, they clearly don't see this as a problem.

There is no such downside for VM, IMO. All Virgin have to do is to say that Amazon is available as part of a package for those who have XL.

How on earth did you dream up that one as a possibility?

If Amazon does arrive, it will almost certainly be the same as Netflix; an independent subscription to Amazon Prime or Amazon instant video, with access to the video via Tivo.

I didn't say it would happen, I said it was a potential solution to prevent Amazon users on VM (if that came about) from downgrading their TV package.

What is the problem that you see in that?

I don't think that they would like the price rise of about £6.25 per month

Certainly not.

What is the problem that you see in that?

Amazon would not be interested at all in a deal to bundle with VM. And given that it would never be bundled, Amazon would never agree to limit the potential Tivo customers accessing a stand alone subscription to a subsection of the Tivo user base.

Well, it's an interesting view you take, PB, without any real substance behind it.

If VM approached Amazon with a view to adding their streaming service to its packages, I don't think that would be an altogether inappropriate option for them.

The deal could be along the lines of the BT Sports wholesale deal, which would guarantee the number of potential viewers with access to the service, or it could simply make the subscription service available to those XL viewers who wanted it (much the same as the facilities available on Smart TVs).

It's really not that much of a stretch; just out of the realms of what you, personally, have contemplated.

That is not the only option.

Sky Sports Select

Rumour over on Digital Spy that Sky is gearing up to launch two new bonus channels for its TV customers - Sky Sports Select and Sky Sports Discover. We don't know if these will be on other platforms or even if they are just concepts at this stage. I suspect the latter but you never know!

Sky Sports Select: http://postimg.org/image/p8x7p1q1f/

Hours per week of live sport: 8

Sky Sports Discover: http://postimg.org/image/juyfhi0b7/

Agreed. I really can't see Prime working as a TV subscription add-on via VM. It's more than just a TV service like Netflix, it includes fast delivery for physical purchases, an e-book rental service and music streaming too.

That's great if those SKY Sports channels are real. I only have SKY Sports for boxing and Scottish football. Matchroom Sports have a 20 fight per year deal in place with SKY. Those above pictures suggest 10 of these 20 fights will be shown for "free" on the new channels. I'm going to cancel SKY Sports if that's the case and buy day passes for the other 10 fights. Bargain!
