Pedro pretty much wants to go to United. LVG also destroys clubs apparently. Bit hard to do that with United given they were already wrecked when he joined. Should be judged this season really, rather than last.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

I'm not sure whether tonights 'forced' fixture is a hindrance overall for sides in the CL. No more than 10 friday night fixtures have been allocated and that for Sky to broadcast. I guess we are all in agreement that the friday night slots will be used to help EPL sides in the CL which come round so fast after a weekends worth of EPL fixtures so 1 of 10 has been eaten away by force apparently due to the EDL going on a rampage in Walsall on Saturday.

MU are at home vs Club Brugge on Tuesday. Surely they would have wanted the reverse, playing away with extra preparation. Having said that there wont be any need for another friday night slot to be taken with the reverse fixture to be played Wednesday the following week so Saturday 12:45 will do nicely for Newcastle at home EPL. I'm just thinking about the slots available and the need for the EPL to progress further in the CL.

In other news Arsene has quoted the word 'supermarket' which brings back fond memories of...

a closer look...

Poor lackadaisical preparation for the game vs West Ham. Which is totally separate to the transfer market. The fact Arsenal are still short of players speaks for itself. The league has got a lot stronger. Wenger himself touched on it today that the quality in the lower part of the table has improved and that the points total to win the league could be lower this year. That doesn't of course mean teams can toy around and throw games, it means it'll be harder to beat teams. If Wenger stands still it'll be a top 4 competition again. Arsenal need to be better prepared for games and quality signings need to be had. He did say its intelligent to focus on performances than on miracle signings so you know Arsene, do exactly that! Why the screw up last week?!

The window is clearly going to hot up soon with moves triggering a merry-go-round and Wenger has always alluded to that during previous windows so why wasn't the team ready for the game vs West Ham. It's poor preparation even if transfers are waiting in the wings which of course are needed or its going to be a long hard season again! No crisis. Just no more of the same BS!

Off to Chelsea now. Eva Carneiro has undermined Jose Mourinho so he has got rid of her from the bench. He said "we need disagreements to improve. We work together and we improve together". During play Jose would have argued to the ref that Hazard doesn't need to go off, no medics, a big BS production would have surrounded it and the ref would have got slaughtered for doing what the rule states! Jose though would have diverted attention and got one over the morons while those with half a braincell would have known its total BS. All managers do it, try it on that is, exactly what Hazard and Jose done or were trying to do. Is the consistency there from the refs to get rid of the player from the pitch when these bs productions occur?

Well another scruffy goal for United but another three points. A better all round performance than against Spurs on Saturday though.

Slumming it tomorrow, been invited to Burnley v Brum at Turf Moor, 12.30 kick off so early start. :)

I think the Friday night games start properly when the new TV deal starts next season. This was just a one off because of the reason you gave. Even then I'd imagine plod would have some say in certain games being broadcast at that time.

Sigh. If this was last season and Westley still in charge I'd be calling for him to be sacked. However, I hope Teddy can get the team working soon. A return of 1 point from 6 is not good enough, especially when on paper we should have at a minimum of 4 from 6 points.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Same old defending issues. Daryl Janmaat has surely deliberately gotten himself sent off there. He's looking at a minimum 4-5 yellow cards in his opening half before the sending off. Mike Jones let him off far too many times until he finally conceded and dished out that second yellow. Swansea took advantage of an awful defence and given their possession play, it was a big ask 1-0 down but a certain win after the card.

Newcastle need 2 defenders, simple as that, players like Obertan shouldn't be starting games.

Newcastle and West Ham have agreed a price partnership (Annoying how many clubs have no interest in this, pure greed)

£25 adults and £1 U16's for SJP and Upton Park

Adrian card is iffy, don't think he should be off though, 91st minute and he's watching that all the way. West Ham denied a blatant penalty though, that was an awful decision.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Kasper Schmeichel should be walking then, different game if the decision is made right. Preventing a goalscoring opportunity for one, it's then inside the box. I honestly don't see how anyone can get that wrong. It's almost as bad as that Spurs player being called offside in his own half. I'd like to think Ref's balance out their mistakes but he really hasn't. Keeping Adrian on would be something to soothe that awful penalty decision.

United at OT, Arsenal after, 0 wins from 4 for us in August unless we suddenly have two new defenders in. Latest suggest Florain Thauvin will appear on Tyneside next week, meh

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

I don't think anyone has a clue what Jose is up to, is he losing it or what? Chelsea have been invisible in the market, they were good last year but how much of that was down to the fact that everyone else was just total crap. Teams like United (Still look pretty dire at times) and City have spent money and strengthened, its already pretty clear. Chelsea shouldn't be drawing 2-2 with Swansea at Stamford Bridge even with 10 men. No disrespect to Swansea. There's just no need to have Falcao at Chelsea is there? Mourinho has big questions to answer.

All in all, Chelsea are weak and Jose seems to be falling off.

Even though we need to know more, it's already City's to lose. On what we've seen, they'd smash Arsenal, Liverpool and United relatively easy. But it's City isn't it. Fall apart in Europe followed by losses at Sunderland and finishing second of course.

As for Arsenal and Palace, not finishing chances granted but they haven't been 'lucky' so to speak, 60% possession away from home, more shots overall and so on. I don't understand why there's still no super striker at Arsenal, they have everything bar a second clinical striker to sit beside Giroud or completely replace him, you're getting the shots in and creating the chances but it seems like 1 in 7 go in and those numbers need to improve massively.

Arsenal could have been left playing with 10 men, that is what I meant by Arsenal got lucky. It was a game with pace, not a contained bore so having a man less would have made a difference.

Arsenal need more than a world class striker imo. that dm position needs strengthening even if Coquelin is considered a starter. the funds are there. make space and theres even more reason to get it done.

I think personally that Mourinho should go. I was listening to Talk Sport yesterday. And several long standing Blues fans, reckon that Chelsea should sack him.

If you think that all this Doctor business, and feel that the players are getting there own back on Jose, by playing crap.

Chelsea were poor today, and didn't have any flair. Even, coming off the pitch they were prepared to have a punch-up with a City player.

Some stupid Tv analyst said that if Jose is in charge of ANY club, they would win trophies

What you need in a team is stability, and l think Chelsea have lost that over this Doctor business - and l fully support the Doctor, l was waiting for her to slap Mourinho. He deserves that. I wouldn't have put up with that

Cabella had to go, besides being a flop, his attitude is pretty dire, he isn't injured as suggested, they just won't entertain him anymore, Ben Arfa all over again. There's now suggestions Newcastle will make a £15m bid for Andros Townsend. Cabella going is a step to decrease the midfield. Obertan, Anita and Gouffran still have to go in what is a massively bloated midfield and squad size.

Thauvin and Townsend though? decent business but what about that awful defence? If they both come in then Sissoko has to be cashed in on.

Newcastle first team midfielders with the addition of Thauvin:

Tiote, Anita, Colback, Perez, Sissoko, Aarons, Obertan, Gino, De Jong, Gouffran, Thauvin. Eight of those should be starting...

I think the obvious sacrifice here is Colback, Tiote, Anita, Obertan and Gouffran. Perez and Aarons are breakout stars but can be benched just as easily for now. With the acceptance that injuries do happen, I think that solves it. I think Perez should even be starting up front instead of Cisse, just watching him shows you he's far more aware and just an all round superior player to Cisse.

I think it also suggests Steve is heavily focused on a one striker formation. Two defenders are desperately needed then some patience to follow, Newcastle won't finish in the top eight as claimed by the board and they won't have great cup success but assuming the fat man keeps his word and Newcastle continue to build and invest alongside letting all the new players gel and get to grips with the league, Newcastle will be as good as they were in 2011/12

There were plenty of suggestions Austin's preferred move was Newcastle and I bet that left a sour taste with Villa and West Ham whom both also have the £15m easily to spend on him. It's paper talk, Newcastle have never declared any sort of interest in Austin as it's been revealed by McClaren himself, no approach or any enquiry has been made. It seems to me QPR have simply been touting a player they're desperate to get off the books for at least £15m before he walks on a free. I think Newcastle are more likely to sign Diego Rolan than Charlie Austin, it has to be Villa or West Ham now imo.

Bookies still think it's a done deal but I'm not convinced. I think Diego Rolan is a far better choice, albeit a gamble than Austin. I could be wrong, it was suggested Newcastle denied interest and said they didn't care in an attempt to bait QPR into lowering their valuation. Again though, I'd rather have Rolan.

Phew, needed that third goal. I was right behind those two peaches from Memphis, stunning goals and a wonderful cross for Fellaini. Biggest danger to United was themselves, losing possession, sloppy back passes, own goals. Toon at home Saturday, :)

What I don't get is why clubs quibble over the odd million or two when they're already paying ten, twenty, thirty times that, it's almost like they deserve to be usurped

Southampton I actually feel sorry for now, but this is what happens when a unusual club is on the edge of the champions league, the big clubs will raid them for players to stop that club threatening them.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Why is it everyone has a ridiculous amount of money to spend this summer except Sunderland... :erm: Where did the TV money go?

It seems The Sun claiming Sunderland are actually skint doesn't sound too daft anymore with sources close to the club suggesting there was a massive cash flow problem prior to the sale of Connor Wickham. They say Sunderland have been massively mismanaged from the inside.

By skint - Not the owner, the club itself, it's been clear that the club has to be run within it's own means and it's not working. They've got players on ridiculous wages that the fans nor club want.

All of this could easily go away with a simple investment from the owner but it appears unlikely they'll be bailed out.

Assuming the chairman refuses to invest. Sunderland have to go an entire season with their current players and the addition of smaller £5m + Loan option players.. without being relegated.

Talks about crisis? You've found the actual crisis now.

Some notable figures:

£7.5m, likely owed to Inter Milan pending a FIFA decision
£93,000* a week, Alvarez' wages.
£69.5 million - Sunderland's yearly wage bill
-£13m loss.
*Apparently true but I doubt even Sunderland would offer that.

Years of investments on players with little or no resale value.

Questions are simple really.

Where is the TV money?

repaying debt? They will want to get at the next spike in revenue. You can somewhat see what they are doing recruiting, those fallen away or off needing a place to regroup. Its not happening though. I'm not sure they have the right attitude, top to bottom that is.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Years of Rooney playing everywhere but Striker has naturally affected him. United just don't look all there. Depay is already quality, another Hazard if not destined to be even better.

They just don't look good enough despite paper saying otherwise. They're better than they were with Moyes but not by much. LVG is blowing on his own trumpet a bit too much. There's an absolute spanking waiting for United somewhere down the line if they continue playing like that. Newcastle didn't deserve 3 points but they were very unlucky not to be coming away with three, Thauvin gets the slightest stud on that and they're going home with a 1-0 win.

I'm not saying Newcastle played bad and United played awfully. Newcastle had an excellent game but you should still be winning that at home regardless. Fringe teams are going to OT for points this season after the two games they've witnessed there so far.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Theres 5 new players in the team, its not going to click straight away. You can see each of the new players have the quality but they need time to gel as a team which will take longer than 3 games. I'm happy with the start so long as they kick on from here which they will have to with the run of fixtures coming up.

I agree about Rooney, he's used to playing in a deeper role and keeps going looking for the ball and trying to get involved leaving no striker. I still think hes best playing off someone so he can do that.

---------- Post added at 18:18 ---------- Previous post was at 18:13 ----------

City look really good, Silva is brilliant when hes in this form and being played in his best position.

iadom 23-08-2015 21:37

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Regarding the five new players, the keeper is only a stop gap, Darmien and Schneiderlin have slotted in seamlessly and look very good. Memphis Depay had one good game, but that was in Europe, you don't get the same time on the ball in the crash bang wallop of the Premiership. I would have put Ashley Young on , not Valencia and probably taken Memphis off. He is still only young but has a lot to learn. Schweinsteiger looked very good at the start, surprisingly quick over the ground but that only lasted 30 minutes, I expected Carrick to come on at half time. A speedy, skilful, strong forward like Costa, Suarez or Aguero is what is needed. We have Fellaini for the desperation Route One approach.

The most surprising thing to me is that I spelt Scheinderlin and Schweinsteiger correctly without checking first .:D
