I agree but like others I don`t think it will do very well. Don`t be surprised though if they put some or all their champions league football on it.

I think they have to show it fta, but either way they've only got another year of it anyway.

Sky and Virgin Media have agreed a new five year plus agreement for the distribution of Sky’s content to Virgin Media’s TV customers. Through the agreement, Virgin Media will continue to offer its customers an extensive selection of Sky’s leading entertainment channels, as well as content from Sky Movies and Sky Sports. haha yes very good question den. Also a question...does that mean we'll be able to watch sky sports from our mobiles??? that would be fantastic.

I'm not overly excited about sky sports 3/4/f1 HD as i won't get it if it launches as i dont subscribe to the HD... but still even if i dont get it i just finally want something to launch hahaha

Why does it say though sky and virgin team up in the war against BT? What does signing another deal for sport have to do with a war against BT!? what an absurd comment.

Simple because this deal now means the only platforms with access to all sport in HD and every sport channel are Sky and VM weakening the BT TV offering.

This was interesting as well

Great news for Virgin Media customers. Takes the HD offering up to 61 channels. SKY and Virgin Media are the homes of HD in the UK. BT and Talk Talk will need to step up.

Sky see BT as their main rival now, so are quite happy to do more deals with VM.

Sky's revenues are declining and they are feeling the pinch from the launch of BT's sports channels. So, getting more money from VM for these HD channels is a no brainer for them. It's not as if VM can compete in the sports field by launching its own premier league channels anyway.

Sky's exclusive HD channels have had their day now (exception: Sky Atlantic). Those who really wanted sports in HD would have gone to Sky by now. In any case, Sky are preparing their new "premium" channels... Press reports say that Sky 4k/ultra hd boxes are being made now, so HD will become the new SD soon. At least that's what Sky are banking on.

Then it all starts again....:( How long will it be before VM get Sky Sports 1 Ultra HD or Sky Premier Movies Ultra HD etc....?

Confirmed: More channels coming next month.

My insider who told me any more Sky Sports HD coming last week has got back to me with an launch date of June 1st plus some Sports channels will be re jigged as well*.

Also STV has confirmed that STV Glasgow will broadcast on Freeview (23), Sky (117) and Virgin Media (159) from June 2nd.

*Where will they broadcast?

Plan A)
•519. Sky Sports 3 HD
•520. Sky Sports 4 HD
•521. Sky Sports News HD
•522. Sky Sports F1 HD
•523. EuroSport
•524. EuroSport HD

Or plan B)
•501. Sky Sports 1
•502. Sky Sports 2
•503. Sky Sports 3
•504. Sky Sports 4
•506. Sky Sports F1
•508. Sky Sports News
•511. Sky Sports 1 HD
•512. Sky Sports 2 HD
•513. Sky Sports 3 HD
•514. Sky Sports 4 HD
•516. Sky Sports F1 HD
•518. Sky Sports News HD

Aye all makes sense!

The only question is why still not able to agree terms for atlantic. has to be stubborness? If anyone wanted atlantic now they'd have gone to sky or at least gone to now tv. I think sky don't want to give in and accept VM's lower offer and appear to be seen as "giving in". which makes no sense really.

I hope sky sports news hd comes along quick !

I'd imagine it was the old regime who started the process. Liberty Global so far have shown utter contempt to tv channels and instead want to give us "third party content" which we then have to pay on top of our ever increasing bills with VM...

rant over.

I really can't think of anymore big HD channels we're now missing???

Well Sky and Virgin sign an deal back in June 2010 to carry Sky Basic HD Channels and Sky1 HD did not launch until October 2010 and Sky Art HD Channels did not launch until April 2011.

Will Sky1 +1 and Pick +1 also launch?

And the thaw in the VM-Sky relationship continues. Money always talks, and Sky need the money.

I've noticed that the old direct Sky feed to VM customers seems to be back as well, if the targeted advertising to VM customers on SSN is any indication. I recall that feed was pulled during The Sky Basics War when Sky were appealing to VM directly to dump Cable and join Sky.

Here's a question: Will SSN HD be available to customers not taking premium Sky Sports channels? Considering SSN SD is available to all on XL?

Virgin media are sending people to the following page for info on this nothing on the customer news page at the moment

A five-year content deal with Sky, will see Virgin Media add five new high definition channels to its offer.

According to The Times, the deal will see all of Sky's channels, other than Sky Atalantic, broadcast to customers of rival cable provider Virgin Media, as the pair up the ante in the war against BT.

Jeremy Darroch, CEO of Sky, said: “This agreement builds on our long-standing relationship with Virgin Media, enabling us to deliver our great channels to even more homes across the UK and opening up additional sources of revenue.” Tom Mockridge, chief executive of Virgin Media, described the deal as the “most extensive agreement ever signed between Virgin Media and Sky."

Virgin Media customers will be able to watch channels such as Sky Sports 3 and 4, Sky Sports News and Sky News as well, through their TVs, smartphones and tablets.

I would think Sky Sports News HD and Sky new HD will be in the XL pack as a minimum given its part of the basic channels they should go to m+ but we'll have to wait for an official announcement from VM 3HD, 4HD and F1HD will be added to the sky premium HD pack

Base on info on DS Forum as of Friday only Three HD Channels are testing.

So if Virgin was also set to launch Sky Sports News HD and Sky News HD WHY did Virgin not start tests on the same day as the other three?

it maybe because the 3 are premium channels MB and other 2 are basic ?

Virgin Media has announced a five-year deal with Sky Sports.

In addition to the entertainment, sport and movie channels already covered by the existing deal, subscribers now have access to Sky F1 HD, Sky Sports 3 HD and Sky Sports 4 HD, with Sky Sports News HD and Sky News

I see VM confirm that Sky Sports 3 4 and F1 HD will be added to the channels of those who already have Sky Sports 1 and 2 HD for no extra charge.

Of course it will go up eventually but pleased is not immediate.

Point of accuracy, Sky's revenues are up 7% for this year compared to the same period last year. Its Sky's profits which are being squeezed. But I thoroughly agree that 4K is the new HD and HD the new SD. To which I would add 3D is the new Betamax. :)

If Sky1+1 and Pick1+1 were launching tomorrow, I'm sure they would have been in the press release.

I suspect the Customer Service rep got the wrong end of the stick so suggest:
Tomorrow: Sky Sports 3HD/4HD/F1HD
Later on: Sky News HD, Sky Sports News HD

"The deal includes, for the first time, Sky Sports 3, Sky Sports 4, Sky F1 and Sky Sports News, all in glorious High Definition. And, for our existing Sky Premiums HD subscribers, there is no extra cost"

You could read this as Sky Sports News HD being part of the premium Sky HD channels but hopefully not.

Official announcement on Virgin forum.

Surely the VM statement is worded wrong no way can the Sky Sports new HD channel be exclusive to the sky premium HD pack when the SD version is free to all

for the first time, Sky Sports 3, Sky Sports 4, Sky F1 and Sky Sports News, all in glorious High Definition. And, for our existing Sky Premiums HD subscribers, there is no extra cost

Why wouldn't the Sky HD channels be exclusive to the Sky HD add on?

Or are you talking specifically about Sky Sports News?

My sources have a combined total of 80% accuracy as with anything posted on here it's best not to get your hopes up as information can get crossed and wrongly relayed or things could change.
However the source that told me this info was the same source that told me about FOX, nat geo dropping down from xl to l pack so they are quite reliable :)

If thats the case then VM have literally bowed to skys tactics by the sound of it... i shudder at the idea of sky one hd and sky news hd going into the "HD sky" pack...

Well, this is good news, but very disappointed that Liberty Global are now saying that Sky Atlantic is 'not a priority', which is a bit different from the earlier message about maximising content.

Perhaps there is more news to come about access to the HBO content, but not holding my breath, to be honest.

what can they do if sky wont let anyone have it OB that's what happening like I said lots of times nothing they can do if sky wont let anyone have it SA is off limits

I have no more knowledge that what is in the announcements, but I'd guess the both News HD channels would go into XL as that tends to be the usual way it works.

Unless the HD strategy has changed

I think that Sky just aren't prepared to lower their price and Liberty feel that they cannot set the precedent otherwise we will get fleeced by Sky.

I understand that, but I hope they come up with an alternative for us. Quite happy to have an HBO subscription streaming service that gives us their older content with the first run stuff on PPV. My concern is that HBO are notoriously possessive about making their programmes available and so such a deal may not be available.

I hope something can be done for those of us that want it. Now that we (almost) have the missing Sky Sports HD channels Sky Atlantic looks more and more like a glaring omission in an otherwise well-rounded offering from Virgin.

vincerooney 12-05-2014 14:18

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2

I think liberty want it but dont want sky to know it. sky want liberty to have it for advertising money but dont want to lower their asking price and make a precedent.

its like two children arguing in the playground. it would benefit both so much but they're both too stubborn to actually come to an agreement.

Richc1977 12-05-2014 14:20

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2

I have to say having SS3, SS4 and F1 in HD and available on mobile devices makes a massive difference to the likelihood of me subscribing to the full collection.

The SD quality is so shocking that for NFL, Tennis and F1 I've not bothered subscribing but am likely too now.

Sky Atlantic aside, I pretty much have all I want on VM (until the 4K stuff comes out in a few years)

I'm shocked at all the people on here with the sports in HD and the extra 7 quid charge! I must be a skinflint i just literally feel i pay enough for sky sports and my whole package never mind paying more on top for HD!

Maybe i should just open my wallet and let the moths out...

So betting time?
Do we think we'll get:

Just the 3 HD sport channels tomorrow?
Or 5 channels (sport hd+ sky news+ sky sports news hd)

By the sound of it the 3 sport channels in HD seem fairly odds on to launch its just what if anything may come with it tomorrow...

as for saving the money fair play! i'm envious. i spend all my money on shenanigans and idiocy.
