My next fibre connection will be either BT Infinity or Sky fibre unfortunately VM's service wasn't the best in my area due to over subscription.

Your focusing on BT Vision in its current form as a Freeview recorder with pay On Demand content , give it 2 years or so from now and the service will be totally unrecognisable. Expect some major changes in the pay TV market , Talk Talks packages and pricing already promises to shake the market up , next year they've mentioned recordable IPTV and HD , more competition will give the customer more choice.

But it isn't a fact Dave , Sky's biggest rival pay TV platform VM has access to Sky Sports 1 & 2 in HD as do other pay TV platforms so I'm sure BT will gain access at some point.

Have you ever wondered why BT Vision only carries Freeview channels ?

Sky Sports 1 & 2 is carried on DTT hence why you can receive it on BT Vision likewise ESPN.

BT Vision will soon start to add linear channels over IPTV , many deals have already been signed. HD isn't a possibility for many over ADSL , that's why BT is making infinity a requirement for the linear IPTV channels.

Looks like BT are in it for the long haul:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...ls?INTCMP=SRCH

"The BT Tower, one of London's best-known landmarks, is to be given a new lease of life as a setting for the telecoms company's sports channels when they go live next summer.

BT Sports studios will be located in the 189-metre tower, which once featured a revolving restaurant operated by Butlins but closed to the public in 1981, and at the Olympic Park, where the company is to become an anchor tenant."

"Confirmation on Thursday that BT has taken a 10-year lease at the former Olympic broadcast centre."

Thanks for this snippet, Chad. This is great news. When I learnt that ESPN weren't broadcasting NBA this season, I was going to contact Sky to ask (plead, actually) that they step in and bring it to Sky Sports, but couldn't find any suitable email address or link on their website to send it to, so didn't bother :dozey:

Hope this now goes ahead.

I must admit that when SKY put their might behind a sport it tends to be a more pleasurable viewing experience. For me their boxing coverage is great for so many reasons:

1. All fights are in HD
2. Some fights are in 3D
3. Dedicated weekly boxing programme
4. Up to the minute boxing news on SKY Sports News
5. Live weigh-ins and press conferences
6. Some of the best boxing commentators and pundits in the UK
7. Studio guests and guest pundits are of a high calibre
8. Special preview shows to their bigger fights
9. Ultra slow motion replays during fights
10. General presentation i.e. graphics and effects etc....
11. Great coverage on SKY Sports website
12. Action is available on demand for months afterwards

I'm one of only a few on here that would still value ESPN next year, if they didn't lose any more rights.

ESPN have 30 SPL games as well as 10 SFL games involving Rangers, my team. ESPN have also picked up Scotland friendlies such as their game against USA and Luxembourg. ESPN show 30 live boxing shows from their Friday Night Fight series each year and have snapped up the rights to the World Series of boxing. For me and my sporting tastes, ESPN is still very appealing. In fact at the moment ESPN is more appealing that BT Sports.

NBA still in talks with SKY.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012...or?INTCMP=SRCH

"However, Stern continued: "I would say that [no UK TV deal] is not an acceptable answer for the UK because we need exposure to build that audience, so we're struggling hard. We thought it was a big deal when ESPN made the agreement with us, and now we're talking at the highest level at BSkyB to see if we can do a little bit better than we've done."

It also seems a deal might be imminent.

"So with the London game less than two months away, the NBA faces an embarrassing situation of coming to town with the intention of spreading basketball gospel, with the game not available on British screens."

Surely the NBA, and SKY if they are interested, will be looking to cement a deal way in advance of the London game.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Jamie Carragher Linked to BT Sport

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has been critically lauded for his punditry since joining Sky Sports and it now looks as if BT Vision will look to repeat the trick with Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

Neville went straight from the dressing room into the studio and that has been cited as one of the reasons why his opinions have been so clued in.

Therefore, BT, who will be broadcasting 38 games a season for three years starting next August after winning a bid for the rights in June, are looking at current players who could make a similar transition.

And according to respected sport media journalist Charles Sale in Daily Mail, Carragher is a target as they look for a "a Premier League pundit with dressing-room knowledge."

Former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg has also been in for talks, but if BT want a current player there are a few knocking around who have already dabbled in media work.

Neville is so much better than that Andy Gray. I used to watch the football on mute sometimes just to shut him up!

lol. My point for carragher, is that his accent is broad.

For neville, occassional relevant comments doesn't make up for the "I love man utd they can do no wrong" comments.

I prefer the bias of presenters to not be so obvious.

It's a tribal game, and when the people presenting it show a tribal bias I think they come across as more authentic. I think Neville does alright.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

I disagree. It is tribal in the morons minds.

It is actually an entertainment sport. And neville is supposed to be prresenting an unbiased view.

I guess this makes me a moron, then, but believe me when I say that Palace could be relegated, face a points deduction, and almost go completely out of business (and there's nothing entertaining about any of that), but as long as we beat Brighton home and away then it's been a good season. That makes it tribal, rather than entertaining, as far as I'm concerned. It matters to people, and not all of them are morons.

Sunset+Vine wins contract to produce BT Premier League coverage

Sunset+Vine has won the coveted contract to produce BT's new Premier League football coverage.

The independent production company was behind Channel 4's successful coverage of the London Paralympics 2012.

The Guardian reports that the contract is worth between £100m and £132m over the three years of football coverage, which former BBC presenter Jake Humphrey has been brought in to present.

Sunset+Vine has also previously produced coverage of Premiership Rugby for ESPN and England's home cricket Test matches on terrestrial TV between 1999 and 2005.

Chairman Jeff Foulser said: "Live football and rugby coverage have been a major part of our recent output and we can now put our creative talents into delivering top class and innovative coverage for BT Sports' major rights acquisitions."

Head of BT Sport Simon Green said of the deal: "We have chosen Sunset+Vine as our lead preferred partner on the basis of its creative approach and the quality of the team they have lined up to work on the programming."

Earlier this year, the telecoms company paid £738m for live TV rights for 38 Premier League games a season for three years.

It isnt a deal breaker but still lame. The cast will be crap, Skys will look a lot more professional even with their flaws. And you can bet the price for BT Sports will be a little higher.

Well it will be on Sky yes, but for us poor bstrds on Virgin who pay £32 for 2/6 channels in HD, I'm sure BT will look like the Lidl Value range.

thenry 21-12-2012 15:53

VM should get BT in HD. I get enough of Lidl at Arsenal and it isnt even value!

I wonder why he didn't switch when he had the chance to with the price increase. I'm holding out for BT IPTV in July, should coincide with 76mb fibre.

Arthurgray50@blu 21-12-2012 19:40

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

So why is it that the trial channels are already on Sky, normally with VM it takes them ' we are talks crap' and it takes several months for anything to happen on VM

Things are coming together for BT. They seem to be cherry picking channels, picking the best and leaving the rest. I can see BT offering a fairly solid TV service come July, but for cheaper than both SKY and Virgin.

Exciting times in the UK TV market.

This is the news that l have been waiting for, What it means is that prices WILL have to decrease, as BTVision will knock VM and Sky for six.

BT Vision will be making offers to attract the viewers which is only good for the viewer.

My only problem with BT is that the phone charges are high, compared to VM.

Very good news.

It will be interesting to see how they deal with Sky's negotiaters though.

There is absolutely zero chances of any price decreases Arthur and that applies to all these companies.:nono:

The idea that they cherry pick yet charge the same seems to run against every thing that is posted here. Ie the we want more channels brigade. Less "junk" channels ( that is wide open to choice is it not) at a lower price . PICK & MIX please . I might well sign up. Before you say Den not a hope of that!
A package with NO sport or music. Would ring my bell.

All very well in theory Colin but one suspects it won't work like that though knowing Sky's known history in negotiations with other providers.
