Anyone else hear him on the BBCs pundits row about contracts and all sorts but starting off by saying well Levys mums just passed away so theres more important things? What a idiot, 'of course I would have taken the England job' no consideration for Roy let alone Levys mum whom he just media whored. If someones mum dies you don't go comfort them then start mouthing off. His whole attitude and methods suck. He lives on the good old Harry hype and gets done for. Sad thing is now we'll have to hear his crap on pundit rows media whoring himself.

26th February: Tottenham lose 5-2 to Arsenal and win just four of last 13 league games. 13 games you say? is it not now 13 managers including caretakers that have come and gone during Arsenes reign? 7 years without winning a trophy, around 4 years of messing around? wow. Tottenham really are poo.

Bale looks to have made a wise choice by not signing thesuns exclusive contract. Van Der Vaart wanted by Schalke. Modric wanted by Utd, Chelsea and whole other host of clubs. Vertonghen to Arsenal? Remy?

Whilst a tiny bit sad for Tottenham, I am pleased as it now means I can like Harry again. Went off him a bit when he went to Tottenham, but I suspect he left Portsmouth for them because Tottenham offered Pompey a good deal for Redknapp to leave them.

Would have been at the start of all their financial worries as well, Redknapp leaving Pompey so that was the theory I have always had about him going to Tottenham.

Daniel Levy is a shrewed businessman, and he was tough during the last transfer window and said that NO ONE is leaving.

I also expect Harry to stay, as the club know that there isn't anyone out there better than Harry to keep Spurs in the top four.

The only thing about Spurs is that they don't let anyone know about dealings until its done.

you were saying Arthur?

Seems crazy to sack 'arry - especially as in any other season 4th place would have got Spurs back into Champions League

l think Spurs will regret sacking Harry as he made them leading contenders playing extremely attractive football and even got them into the CL but where they go after him is likely to result in them going downwards rather then upwards judging by previous experiences.

I am totally shocked that Harry has gone, Levy and the board should resign over this, all Harry wanted was a further two years on his contract before retiring.

I heard rumours that Levy and the billionaire owner wanted him out, but they have made a rod for there own back. I expect many players to leave now and there is no chance of signing that player from Ajax.

I think that Levy, who is tight fisted anyway, will go for McCoist now, the reason, he won't a penny being that Rangers are now out of business.

Tottenham have always been tight fisted and l am surprised big name players haven't left before. What the point of earning £60.000 per week when you can join a bigger club that pays £100.000 per week.

UNLESS Spurs get a big manager in, we will struggle this season - but there again, nothing unusual. - very bitter towards the club l love.

I would worry if Ali Mcoist went to spurs..he isn't in that league (of manager).

I think it was wrong decision...and if they get off to poor start..they may struggle to get into top 10

Arsenal will become a very profitable team, but a mid-tabled one!

Not sure if Van Persie's wife would agree with a move!

At this rate Arsenal will not have a team left!

Nonsense as Arsenal will always be a top 5 club in my mind as they have a new stadium and a very good team to boot apart from a lack of depth in certain positions.

Where you hearing M'Vila from?

I don't think anyone else would be wrapped up. Barring anyone big leaving I would be happy with Podoski, Giroud and M'Vila. The core of a good squad is there, we just need those experienced quality players in the squad. M'Vila would still be the most important signing IMO.

various 'ITK' ;) sources. I still think theres more to come, I wouldn't be happy with just 3 signings at all. Arshavin, Benayoun, Squillaci, Bendtner, Chamakh, Vela, Denilson, Park, Djourou whom look to be going. then theres Diaby who id get off the payroll for someone more useful and I'd also push for a solid leftback so we dont end up with another Eboue case with Santos. thats a lot outgoing which needs replacing with quality.

Does anyone know when Rangers fate in Scottish Prem will be decided? I'd heard that the meeting was lunchtime and they would vote on whether Rangers can take the share or not.

If Rangers get rejected, then there is little point in watching Scottish Prem football anymore as Celtic will have a clear run at the title every season. Will get very boring to watch.

And nice to see Arsenal spending some money in the markets this summer. Hopefully they can build on last season, even if they do lose van Persie and Walcott.

There are a number of football clubs around the world that are based in one country/territory but play in another's football league. Conditions for competing in a "foreign" league, as well as in a continental/confederational competition, are set case-by-case by FIFA as well as the respective confederation and national football associations involved.

Why do people insist on calling it the EPL according to the Premier League website there is no mention of it being the EPL.

It is the Barclays Premier League administered by the Premier League.

So whats stopping the FA/UEFA/FIFA from helping both the English and Scottish games by allowing Celtic to move to the English Leagues?

I am only suggesting the ides so that Celtic does not keep winning the SPL all the time and give othe Scottish teams a chance! (if not then Celtic and maybe Rangers should pay in the Atlantic League)

Is there anything in the FA criteria about how Non-English Teams to play in the English Leagues?

Also why on earth have we got to a point where we are the only nation on earth with 2 or 3 diffrent league systems?

MalteseFalcon 19-06-2012 13:02

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

On the one hand, I think Rangers ought to be allowed to stay in the Premier League because otherwise Celtic get a clear run at the league every season. On the other hand though, Rangers were happy to not pay taxes for such a long period of time that demotion to at least Scottish Division 3 would be better for the whole of Scottish football.

As for Celtic in the Premier League of England, no chance in Hell. At the very minimum if they want to take part in English football then they would have to start (in my mind anyway) at the very least in the Blue Square Premier and work their way up to the Premier League.

I have been a long time critic of the fact that Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Newport and Colwyn Bay can play in English leagues. It is not fair that they have a chance to play in the English leagues when the Welsh FA wouldn't let an English team like Shrewsbury or Telford play in their league. Hypocrisy.

Out of interest, what is the criteria for the Welsh teams to be allowed to play in the English leagues?

It is not fair that they have a chance to play in the English leagues when the Welsh FA wouldn't let an English team like Shrewsbury or Telford play in their league. Hypocrisy.

Out of interest, what is the criteria for the Welsh teams to be allowed to play in the English leagues?

I think Celtic are more of a FL Championship team to be honest, Idealy I would call for a Atlantic League including major clubs in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal and Celtic (maybe what remains of Rangers can join as well)

If Shewsbury Town (a League 1 side) joined the Welsh Premier, they will end up dominating it far too much, thats the reason why , Swansea, Wrexham, Newport and Colwyn Bay do not play in that league and thus are in the "better" English Leagues, one of the teams in the Welsh Premier League is the staff team of the Airbus Factory in Broughton, Flintshire, Wales!

Probably the same criteria that allows English teams to play in the Welsh league (Shrewsbury) and Scottish league (Berwick).

It works.

Well it will be broken if Celtic end up winning the SPL all the time!

Also I disagree about the fact we have 1 league system per home nation rather than 1 for the whole of Great Britain (as is the case for the rest of the world)

You sure about that?

Any idea which team founded the Welsh league?

Even during the 60s, 70s, 80s the First Division (later the EPL), other teams won the titles, they where dominated by Liverpool

As for the 90s and 00s, Arsenal and Chelsea kept on winning the EPL title even during those time and now Man City had been added into the mix!

But due to Rangers and Celtic dominance of the SPL, if Rangers go, then Celtic will end the winning it all the time, since the gap between them and other teams is bigger than in the top league of England!

The Welsh Premier League was formed as a attempt to keep the Welsh FA seperate from other Hoem Nations FA, by setting up a proper national league (in the past, bigger teams where just send to the English Football League), it mainly consisted of Welsh Non-League teams playing in the English League system and where not too keen on joining this new league. There are issues with the fact the big clubs do not play in this league though!

Either we're talking about a different EPL or you have a different definition of "kept on winning" to the rest of us.

Arsenal and Chelsea have won a fair number of EPL titles!

Man U however has won more, but unlike Celtic (if Rangers shut down or kciked out of the SPL) their not handed the title on a plate

There's no guarantee Celtic would be dominant. Rangers' top players will have to go somewhere if they leave. United have been the dominant team over the last 20 years and that wasn't destructive for the EPL. You're based an extreme suggestion on something that hasn't even (and is unlikely to) happened yet.

I highly doubtful that Rangers players would want to cut their wages and join a smaller Scottish Football club like Hearts (who cannot afford them anyway!)

Also a Rangers player joining Celtic (or the other way round) is a taboo and is very rare, so they will join clubs outside Scotland. This means that gap between Celtic and other club will be even bigger since other Scottish clubs are not doing well either (at least Rangers are a challege to Celtic)

It transpires that Rangers actually couldn't afford the players either, well not without the help of you and I and every other tax payer in the country.

Before Rangers started financially doping the Scottish league it was more competitive than the EPL has been in the last decade. In the 80s Aberdeen won the league 3 times, Dundee Utd once, Celtic 4 times and Rangers only twice. Hearts narrowly missed out on the last day of the season in 1985/86.

Edit... Is it coincidence that Aberdeen, Dundee United and Hearts are the first three clubs to confirm a no vote for the New Rangers getting direct entry into the SPL

When did Ranger start using the EBT schemes and living well outwith their means?

Pretty sure it was the mid to late 90s (if not later) and nowhere near the time that a diddy team could aspire to winning the league.

Rangers started spending beyond their means when Murray took over in the late 80s. Rangers went deeper and deeper into debt from that moment on. It was only the benevolence of the establishment bank, The Bank of Scotland, that allowed Moonbeams to continue his ego trip.

The usual balances, e.g. concerned directors or investigative journalism, remained absent until Hugh Adams stuck his head above the parapet 10 years ago.

Looks like Sigurdsson is going to Spurs. I always find it strange when clubs make signings when they have no manager. Who's making the decision? Do they make the decisions when there is a manager? Maybe it would put off potential managers and it can't be good for the player if he doesn't know who he will be playing under surely?

Yeah but Spurs have operated in this way before. Daniel Levy makes the decision and it's not the first time he has done so, Van Der Vaart was pursued by Levy although he did first confirm with Redknapp before making the final bid. Levy wants to go to a Director of Football model if reports are to be believed so this isn't out of character.

Not really sure why any player would chose Spurs (a team that have reached their peak and will probably do no better) over LFC (a team that are on the way up after a bad league campaign).

Particularly when this player already knows the manager of one club whilr the other club doesn't even have a manager!

It does not take a magician to think about the Rangers situation, that with Rangers relegated to the First division, as the silly girls of the SPL have rejected the new club.

Its almost certain that Rangers will go up after one season and they will be back in the PL, so all the 'handbags at dawn' have been a waste of time.

not so sure of that Arthur - no money to buy players, current squad all leaving and their best youth players being snapped off so not such a foregone conclusion
