Depends what you define as end product.. No matter who you buy and for what amount you pay.. They will never match Cristiano Ronaldo. I bet that is the problem there. Because the lad couldnt score 40 goals a season from Midfield he aint good enough. Nani and Carrick both get called crap by people who claim to be United supporters and I'd bet its simply because they are not Ronaldo.

I hope we don't get him. £3m for that? I thought it was good we'd just recouped £2m off Routledge then they go and blow it on crap.

So who would you buy.

The unwanted Man Utd twin. Simpson's useless and Enrique's out the door, so got to fill the gap.

Obviously a striker could come before that even but I have no idea who I'd buy for there.

You're so wrong there ;)

I actually like Carrick and we have had other good players during our time than just Ronaldo ;)

I wasn't expecting him to score 40 goals from midfield, what I was expecting him to do, was to get some of his crosses into the box or when he passed, the ball went to another Utd player. Stuff like that ;)

He was one of those players who could run with the ball, but you didn't have any confidence that anything was going to come of it. Just my opinion from watching him.

Anyway, like Denphone said earlier, we are just going to have to agree to disagree ;)

Having seen Routledge at Palace when he was younger I wouldn't pay 2p for him. Not really sure if he's improved that much over the years either.

He's my OH's cousin - we don't rate him much either ;)

Went to the pre-season friendly at Anfield earlier with Valencia, Adams really didn't look match fit. At one point he seemed to have a coughing fit :erm:

When's he ever looked match fit, he reminds me of Jan Molby, great passer, very poor athlete.

Chelsea look like signing a very talented player called Romelu Lukaku who some have compared to Didier Drogba.

Re: Football Season 2011/12

Chelsea are not making any sense what so ever. To start they know the Uefa fair play lark comes into play soon and they are still spending more than they bring in.

Secondly how many strikers can you have at one club without offloading any?

Surely Drogba, Kalou or Anelka will be looking to leave after this signing. The three of them will have a hard time finding a new club with their wage demands out of proportion and no club will be willing to pay a substantial transfer fee when two of them are over 30 and nearing the end of their career's.

Back onto this whole twitter thing. Its pretty clear the situation at Newcastle is they don't want anyone to know what is going on behind closed doors and sparking another fan protest. Other clubs want it banned in fear of possible sanctions of the Premierleague (Ryan Babel incident) (Rooney Incident)

The fact is there is no use in banning Barton because he is just going to reveal all when he transfers out.

I must admit..I am curious about what Arsenal are planning.

They look to be loosing Sami (be stupid not to take the £20m odd), and fabregas looks to be going (sympathetic to arsenal here, I think Barcelona have been out of order, tapping up fabregas, then not offering a reasonable sum for someone with a long contract, cheeky at best)

But arsenal has lacked a decent goalkeeper, and a bit of bite in defence and midfield. Pretty players do not make a complete team.

Maybe they do need a Parker and Cahill....a bit of balance wouldn't go amiss

After all that, I'm only concerned..as i like the idea of a competitive league..so need arsenal for that...and they do play pretty football at times..easy on the eyes (God i missed football over the summer :D )

l have to agree and yet here we are 1 week away from the start of the season and Arsenal have done near enough sod all in the transfer market apart from the Gervinho signing and he has been bought in to replace Bendtner.

A good result for United today albeit only being the Community Shield, however, the new boys in must think they are onto a good thing, only one competitive game under their belt and they get already get a medal.

I was quite impressed with Tom Cleverley when he came on, he seemed to boss midfield quite well considering who he was up against, long may he continue.

Re: Football Season 2011/12

21 attempts on goal to 8, 56% of possession, the second goal from Nani was as good as it gets, made City look like statues.

City did win the yellow card count 5-2 though.

New keeper looks like he will need some time to find his feet.

All in all a very enjoyable game.

City need the new Argie to fire, Ballotelli is a liability ATM.

Shadow Demon UK 07-08-2011 19:33

Re: Football Season 2011/12

I thought we dominated pretty much the whole game and were very unfortunate to be 2-0 down at half time. Hopefully those were De Gea's mistakes for the season done with. Cleverley changed the game in the second half, if he carries on playing like that we should be alright in central midfield this season.

It was a great atmosphere, which suprised me with it being Wembley. One of the best that i've been to.

---------- Post added at 19:33 ---------- Previous post was at 19:28 ----------

Also, if i was a City fan i would be completely fed up of Mancini's negative tactics. United pull it back to 2-2 and he takes a striker off for a holding midfielder. Then doesn't even try to win the game late on. Why didn't he bring Aguero on? It's a friendly against your biggest rivals, at least go for it this time instead of playing for penalties!

Where do you believe Arsenal are short as in my humble opinion they need one or two centre backs, a goalkeeper, a defensive midfielder and a goal poacher.

l have to disagree with you because when l watched them last season Song or Diaby were constantly out of position when playing the defensive midfield role and they need someone in the Viera or Petit class to fill that position and have they not got Kieron Gibbs for left back position.

Song holds his position fine if he bombs forward then Wilshere tends to stay back or the other way around, there isn't really a problem there.

Watch some of last seasons matches where they dropped points and you will see that the defensive midfielder needs to keep his position but on occassions last season the player in that position went missing thus leaving the centre backs with no protection in front of them and thats what Petit and Vieira were so good at closing that space thus they won trophys when they were there and the present lot have not won anything for at least 6 years.

Aresenal sign Alex Chamberlain.

.

Arsenal had the best defensive record from open play last year, all without our best center back. Suggests to me the problem is not the midfield.

We now added Gervinho :) Also Van Persie was another long term absentee last year, if we keep him fit then he is a goal machine.

This. Someone on set-pieces to command the defence and take control.

Arsenal need another defender like cahill or any other central defender that is able to shout and hold the line and in my opinion a defending midfielder like parker and or bowyer

There was no way your board or chairman would decline an offer that substantial given your finances and league.

I know contracts are meaningless nowadays, but he signed a 3 year one last August.

Doesn't make it any less painful.

Depends if/how the proceeds will be spent.

A club either has ambition or it doesn't...

The contract would have ensured you got a high price for him. Gave Southampton a strong position. Clubs have been circling him for a good while now and I think he came close to signing for Arsenal a couple of times as well. I hear he shows more promise than Walcott did at his age, one of Englands best young players, he wasn't going to stay below Premier League for long.

Still you should take great pride in the amount of young players you have developed.

Yeah, fantastic. It really helps us get to the top flight when we spend money developing them & then sell them on...

Well it does. You make a profit, your slowly mounting the leagues, when you get promoted to the Premiership you'll find it easier to keep them. :)

Only if the profit is invested in players who will make a difference...

Tottenham want £14 Million for Roman Pavlyuchenko after an approach for Newcastle.

Doubt we are stupid enough to pay that amount for a player like him.

Not exactly ambitious extending Amoebi's contract as l have always thought of him as a very average player.

Now bring Wayne Bridge in on the cheap and use the rest with whatever else is left in the budget for a striker for christ sake.

Just found out we paid £6.3 to bring him in when he was a nobody, now he has shown his quality, top clubs want him, everyone's price is high this year and he's going for less than we paid.

Absolute muppets.

That's only because he has one year left on his contract, otherwise you would have got a lot more. That's the problem when players force a move towards the end of their contract, as Arsenal are finding out with Nasri.
