We all know VM monitor these forums, perhaps they will take on board their customers are not happy at the lack of new content and do something about it ;)

I wonder if they take on board the repeated knocking comments of non-VM customers? ;)

I have been a VM /Telewest customer for over 14 years, so I hope they do take on board mine and other VM customers points about the lack of new content.

My feelings exactly.

MB started this thread to, "Keep up-to-date on the latest news on upcoming channel launches and other important events across all platforms of Virgin TV network."

All I'm seeing is posts comparing SKY to Virgin, moans about what isn't coming soon and guesses about what might come eventually. That's why I asked if the other thread could make a return so these posts have a home.

Whilst I respect everyone is free to their opinion, and firmly believe in freedom of speech, these rights don't necessarily exsist in the world of forums were Moderators can edit or remove your posts, especially when your post is way off topic....just like this one:p:

l have tried to be very supportive of Virgin lately but some forum members seem determined to knock Virgin with every post they post and l agree maybe we should open the other thread again as this one should be for whats coming soon to Virgin and the other one should be for discussion and debate.

You can ignore this post now as the new thread has been closed. Where are people supposed to discuss Coming Soon to Virgin TV freely without worrying about going off topic, having comments removed, or receiving warnings for not keeping to the subject of the thread? We can't do it here and we can't start a new thread either. This is becoming very frustrating:mad: I appreciate staff are working on a solution however what do we do in the interim?

Given the big advertising campaign, the launch of Tivo and the massive 6 months half price TV/PHONE/BROADBAND, I'm expecting to see big numbers in the new customers added figures.

Does that mean programs that they have acquired or made in HD for BBC3 or BBC4 will not be shown in HD anymore or that they will have to move them to BBC1 or BBC2? Hope they don't go completely.

Angry Boys is a prime example right now being shown on BBC3 but shown in HD on the BBC HD channel.
Also have known dramas on BBC4 to be shown on there also.

Not belting on about this VM v Sky business, and getting channels on the cheap.

Sky and VM are a business, like any other, Sky get channels then sell them to various companies, I don't know what Sky sell channels for, but when when Sky offered Atlantic to VM, they said ' we offered at a reasonable price', but VM said no.

Obviously VM want the best for its customers, the same as SKy, BUT if you want a rolls royce you don't offer money for a Vauxhall Viva do you.

VM can quite easily go and get channels under there own steam but prefer to go through Sky.

Sky said they offered at a reasonable price but that I fail to believe. It was probably a heavily inflated price and Sky were just trying their luck. VM probably said no as Sky wanted far more for the channel than VM think it's actually worth.

Sky is a business, and so is VM.

But everyone knows that Sky gives a better quality, more channels than VM and is way behind in development, ie how long have we had the promise of the red button, we have to wait until August for that on the football front.

We have had techonlogy for ages, but VM doesn't seem to know where the button is to press it, thatas why you have disgrunteld customers.

Better quality what? Because Sky exclusively has channels with Sky in the name doesn't mean the competition is any less worthy.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

No what l am saying, is that VM must up the stakes for an increase in quality channels - but this comes at a price.

At the moment, they are increasing +1 channels, which are just an hour on the original, wht don't they just invest in quality channels and increase the HD quanity.

I do have the phone and the Internet from VM which is very good, but l won't invest in the full channels just yet as VM cannot gurrantee the red button won't have any faults, IF l miss anything to do with Spurs cuased by a 'fault' from VM, the boxes will go in the bin.

Yes l think thats definitely true as Sky are notorious for their greedy negotiating style but as we found out with the Sky basics fiasco thats is not always the style where both groups can come to a reasonable carriage agreement.

BSkyB has not put Challenge on the list of channels on the new look Sky packages from September.

So unless BSkyB to move Challenge to FTV or FTA it may close or Sky have forgot to add it to the page - I do not know.

You're looking too much into it. Sky haven't included quite a few channels on that list. Such as SonyTV, Bet TV, and a whole lot more. Including Filmfour, 5usa, and about a 100 more channels.

Should we be in a panic because a 100 other channels on Sky arent on there?

Challenge isnt closing, its free to air. You have no proof beyond a list with about 20 percent of channels on Sky to make that assumption.

Edit: Pretty sure the only reason it requires a Sky subscription for Sky customers is more because of the carrage agreement than anything else, I'm assuming Sky will place this on fully free to air on the new satelite.

Though it isnt fully free to air on Sky, I would still class this as a free to air channel as its available on freeview to tens of millions of UK freeview boxes, and on the M package on Virgin.

And on Freesat this channel is encrypted but as said above I cant see that lasting. The new Satelite will add more capacity for channels to launch on Freesat including the 5usa and other channels from 5. Five even confirmed these are joining freesat.

More of a joke really, I'm sure ESPN would rather keep their brand name over here and also they can charge for both SS and ESPN.

But I doubt they'd launch another PPV system like PremPlus, they'd just change the name of the ESPN channels.

How so? Disney are probably the biggest sports and kids broadcasters in the world, its not much of a foreign concept to them. Plus, like Sky now, they have money coming out their rear end.

No it was not meant as a joke just trying to point out what could happen if one provider got all the rights?

Nothing. Sky have owned all Premier League rights before, UFC might be a problem with their WWE deal, WRC would go along with their current motorsport, FA Cup would be a first...

Sky have always had a monopoly over sport so I doubt Ofcom could have much input otherwise they'd be contradicting themselves.

The EC took SKY too book over the football rights and they could if this all transpired?

European Council? I don't know. Maybe they'd let it pass if they kept ESPN separate and continued selling both on Virgin/BT/Top Up/etc as they do now.

.

ESPN is owned by Disney, by buying Sky Disney would get all the sports rights that Sky own.

Disney want ESPN to be the worlds biggest sports channel, so if anything happened I would imagine Skysports would become ESPN branded.

Also Disney has a nice image but they're as ruthless as Newscorps in the business.

I have not looked in to the law that was passed that much and what it envelopes. So can not tell you fully? But I think that it is one company owns it they would not be able to?

I need to look at the law on this?

I think 1 company can own all the football rights but must offer it out at fair market value to other providers. The price is tied in to how much they charge there own customers.

So they can't charge there own customers £20 a month but sell it to other providers for £35 a month.there by forcing other providers to re-sell at £35 just to break even.

No way in hell would Sky Sports become ESPN. The word 'Sky' when referring to sports on (UK) TV is like 'iPod' to MP3 players.

How wrong are you, the word Sky is like ipod when referring to FOOTBALL maybe.

But I enjoy a lot of sport and ESPN,ITV ,Eurosport and the BBC a very important in my viewing.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

BBC and ITV show cup finals. Football is the biggest sport in the UK and I'd imagine at the very least 80% of people with Sky Sports have it for the football especially since it dominates the listings.

ESPN in the UK is the little niche american sports channel with a handful of premier league games and other drastically less popular sports.

If this goes through and Sky Sports gets changed to ESPN, I'l buy a hat from eBay and eat it.

Well that your opinion, but in my home ESPN AmericaHD is watched a hell of a lot, as is Eurosport.

Like I said I'm a sports fan, not a just a football fan. Have you enjoyed today's golf on the BBC? I DID. Or the tour de france? On ITV4HD and Eurosport?

I wouldn't really say the majority of Sky Sports viewers are there for Premier League football is an opinion. Plus you might watch ESPN America (as do I) but its firmly a second-tier brand of sport channel in the UK to the majority.

So back to the original point, Disney really would love to buy Sky if only fo rthe sports rights.

1 thing I like about Sky is even though they overcharge people they give us the TV we want to watch, at a cost. Virgin Media seems to give you what they want you to have and that's it, even if you want to pay extra for more you don't have that option. Something to work on perhaps in the future.

I'm sure I will be in the minority, but I would be willing to pay extra for the content I want, in particularly "SKY Atlantic"

I like all my VM services, and would not change over to SKY

But it would be good if customers could have the choice to purchase extra channels if required, as we do now with SKY Sports, Movies, and HD

We all spend our money in our own way, so to have the choice IMO would be good

So True Den :)

Maybe they could be added here

http://shop.virginmedia.com/digital-...-channels.html

Although I would not wish to water down the existing channels on any package, there will always be content that is so good it will attract a premium

I think "Sky Atlantic" will always be one of those channels

A slippery slope in my view. New channels would start getting added to the 'pay extra' part.

Sky Atlantic is not a premium channel, so we shouldn't pay extra for it. I want Atlantic, but I'm happy to wait until the right deal is done.

I fear that wait will be a long one, as the latest releases from HBO and others are airing on "Sky Atlantic" first

It must be a real gem for Sky subscribers to get the latest content exclusively on a Sky only channel,

if for instance you have been following a series say "Nurse Jackie" you are now into it, but the next series (3) can only be seen on Atlantic

It is a big selling point for Sky at the moment to have this exclusivity, so I can't see them giving that up unless the price is right

And VM won't pay a premium price just to give it away to existing customers and nor should they,

I take your point about the slippery slope, but fear we are all ready on that with the existing extra channels as per the link in my original post.

I agree Ken , the limitations of Free HD to XL customers is the problem here , while it suits some there will be many it doesn't . Sky gets 10.25 a month from Sky HD subscribers hence their broader range of HD channels.
