In 10 years they've never sorted out 'Click' though... The merkins just can't understand a programme that's repeated 8 times a week... (I suspect the BBC are sending them duff data too).

Consistency can be an issue too, but it's much much better than V+, I have so many duplicate series links on that now. Hope Virgin can lean on Tribune to improve a little.

Thanks DF, I think that this forum has hopefully played a small part in getting the install fee waived, that will probably do it for me, so I will try and get a TiVo and 30Mb deal in one .. :) but I will wait until............

After April 11th, 12th or whenever I get the email the next email ( I have already had the Dean email, the not Dean email and a Cindy Rose email. I promise won't phone before then :)

Does anyone know if it's Tribune getting it wrong, or the TiVo?

Tribune supply the EPG data.

Will it be general CS or a sub-team with knowledge of the Tivo pricing and options, such as multi-room etc.?

Everyone gets an email for pre reg's on 11th(ish)... it will either invite you to order online or a special sales line to order.. if you have extra requirements then you will be able to ring the sales team too.

I think you would be able to do it on the same order. The £3 included for VIP50/100 will be ongoing so not just for sign-ups in April (after 11th)

Thanks Digital Fanatic, very useful.

What is VIP50/100? Sorry its been a year or so since I have been with VM for my main tv service. Does it mean 50 or 100mb internet?

I am wanting to go back for 50mb internet and XL TV in both rooms (tivo for the lounge and the V+HD being relegated to the bedroom).

Much happier with the price if can have the install and £3 a month charge waived. I wont be paying for the sky channels as still find them very expensive but either way VM have kept me from resigning up with sky.

some of you will get an email to book online and some will be directed to a special pre-sales orderline, this is because some of you have complicated billing arrangements! :)

Install is free in April, so you are getting that knocked off.

VIP's (50 & 100 only)are getting the TiVo monthly charge waived. It will appear on the bill, but you will get a bigger discount to cover.

now stop moaning!!!!! :D

There is also more deals around additonal outlets, but you'll need to speak to sales or see this in the ordering process online :)

And.....just like that:

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Wonder if someone could help me with this?

At the moment I'm on VIP20 paying £98.54 broken down as follows:

Your main services £69.04
Telephone Line Rental £12.99
Talk Internationall £1.75
Talk Unlimited £8.00
Talk Mobile £1.75
T V Size: X L £26.00
1 Additional V Box £15.00
V+ HD Box £10.00
Add Set Box(es) Discount -£8.50
Phone,T V & B B Saving -£34.95
Broadband XL(20) £37.00

Your premium TV channels £29.50
Skymovie 2,SkyMovie 1,Sports 1, Sports 2 £29.50

So if I were to have the V Box replaced with TiVo then would I be right in saying that I would be charged an extra £3 bringing the total upto £101.54?

Would I also be right in saying that VIP50 is only £100.55 so by upgrading to VIP50 I would get 50Mb broadband, Super hub and HD Sports/Movies Fee for one box and TiVo fee for £1 less?

This does not seem correct to me. How can I be on a lower package and end up paying more when I have TiVo than someone on a higher package? Can someone clarify.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Great news from DF today then, probably the deal clincher for me :)

Couple of questions -
  1. Am currently on a retentions deal and my total cost for services are £66 per month which includes -

    • XL TV
    • L Broadband
    • L Phone
    • V+ HD Box downstairs
    • V Box Upstairs
    • Sky Sports Collection
    • HD Package

The billing is quite complex for our account, there is discounts and goodwill gestures which even I can't work out the maths. (I could post it if someone wants to try figure it out :D LOL)

Am assuming I would need to speak to Customer Services to arrange any install?

  2. What if I wanted to keep the V+HD Box but have this installed upstairs, would there be a charge for keeping it? Maybe if my billing was clearer I would know if am paying for that or the other V box?
  3. I pre-registered for Tivo back in December, received a couple of emails about it and also received the prize draw raffle ticket, yet never received the Dean email or the corrected one, does that mean am registered for it and can await the email next week or not?

As far as I understand it the free install for TiVo is available to all existing customers who order in April. The only requirement to ordering TiVo is that you are on the XL TV package, which you seem to already have, so it looks like your luck isn't so bad after all!:)

Yes, but after the pre reg's order, so probably a week later I think.

So is this going to be a special order telephone number? What about us poor souls who have fallen out of the Virgin Media TIVO database :-(

Eh?

By adding TiVo you will get moved on the the current pricing for the VIP bundles, due to the way the discounts work

Not sure where the full guide is, but basically you use the thumbs buttons to exclude words, make them optional or mandatory. Put a space between for exact phrase matching. Add a * at the end for partial match. (You can put * in the middle, but it treats it as the end of a word. so "H*I" will find Have I Got News For You but not Hawaii Five-O)

There doesn't appear to be a minimum length, but "Find Upcoming Programmes" can take a couple of minutes if there are many matches. Not an issue in real life.

I think you have to use * to find plurals etc.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Just saw another article on the Tivo, and saw this little nugget:

'What sets the new virgin TiVo box apart from other digital video recorders is the ability to scroll backwards through the onscreen viewing guide and record programmes that you may have missed from the last 7 days. This really is a quantum leap in TV technology and will completely revolutionise the way in which we enjoy our favourite programmes.'

I had thought the backwards part of the EPG let you find stuff on catchup, but I hadn't realised you had the option to record it.

Is that the case, or has the article got it wrong there?

Not 100% sure on that, what do you mean? Did you pre reg?

Digital Fanatic I did pre-rgeister when the original pre-reg was announced and entered the 1000 free TIVO giveaway.

I stop receiving any mail from VM in regards to TIVO from including the Dean mails. (I never received it)

The last I received was in Feb 'TV heaven is just weeks away!' and March telling me I did not win a free box.

I am not the only one, who has stop receiving mail dean onwards...

I am concerned if I call customer service they will not have a clue what I am talking on the 11-ish :erm:

This might be why I got confused earlier - I read about the Dear Dean ones, and thought that was the start of Virgin contacting people about ordering an install.

Whereas now I'm thinking the Dear Dean ones were just the latest ones, advising people that they would be able to order from April 11.

Either way, we didn't get that one either.

They should be in touch with an offer of some sort though? I'm the same as Matt and the "Sorry you weren't one of the lucky ones" e-mail did say "We're launching in April so we’ll be in touch in the coming weeks with an exclusive offer, just for our customers."

There doesn't appear to be a minimum length, but "Find Upcoming Programmes" can take a couple of minutes if there are many matches. Not an issue in real life.

I think you have to use * to find plurals etc.

Wow, that is pretty impressive search functionality for a home entertainment product!

DF is it confirmed that I will have to pay full price plus install (£200 +£40 + £3 per month) because I just chose to enter the raffle instead of pre-registering?

And that I will be one of the last to get it when it comes out?

Once the Pre reg's have had the pre-sale, then it will be opened up to existing customers. Likely to be around the 18th, so you will be able to take advantage of the April free install offer too.

The pre-regs main advantage is earlier installs.

You get the same offer as you are an existing customer. £149+£3 per month (unless on VIP50/100 who don't pay monthly TiVo charge)

The pre reg's get installed first though, so you are likely to get installed in late May.

Oh right so as long as I order one by phone from the 18th or throughout April I will get one for £149 +£3 per month install.

Thanks so much Im very happy with that, Its got me thinking positivly about getting one again now.

Well spotted duklaprague!

I suspect backward EPGs will become the norm on newly developed boxes; I read that the Youview boxes will have a backwards EPG. Mind you, Youview will have the catchup from the terestrial channels so it will be a good feature for Youview, as it is for Tivo.

Nice to know that as an Existing customer who didnt pre-register I will be able to order from April 18th a TiVo box at £149 plus £3 per month with no £40 install fee.

I am highly considering it now.

Thanks Virgin Media and DF. :)

What's the difference between 11th April and 18th April? 7 days. So existing Pre-reg have an extra 7 days to get the install dates booked before other existing customers get a chance.

It's been extended to all existing customers in April, but Pre reg's get all the first installs, so anyone after is likely to be late May for installs.

any existing customers after April will have to pay install too.

Hi DF still undercided weather to get TiVo, is there at present no live events on more on demand on TiVo and if the answer is yes how long will it be before it will be supported?

Sorry if this has been asked already, but will taking TiVo affect my loyalty discount? I spoke to sales tonight to upgrade BB from 10Mb to 30Mb and was told I would lose my discount! This can't be normal surely!

Also, does anyone know anthing about the VIP Bundle on the VM site? Seems a good price, but sales told me that deal no longer applies! Again, would TiVo pricing just sit on top of this (ie £3 per month extra)?

Why shouldn't taking TiVo affect your Retentions deal?

TiVo is a service that isn't available anywhere else, so you should pay the going rate for it

The current VIP bundle prices will be the same for TiVo. One off fees will be more though

I believe the 30meg BB email satated that 'normal pricing' must apply to get the upgrade.

I noticed that there was no such statement on the email we got last week.

People on the Tivo forum have posted that they didn't lose their loyalty discounts when the got Tivo and paid the £149 with free install.

I am looking at changing from V+ HD to TiVo on the preregistration date.

Does anyone know if the Ethernet port on Virgins TiVo is enabled allowing me to connect it to existing home network to allow stored and recorded content to be copied off and stored on home server for example.

Many thanks.

In America, they have the "Tivo Desktop" software that enables you to play Tivo media on your PC. That's in America.

I think VM are looking to introduce facilities like that in the UK, but whether they can do so or not is probably determined by their content providers.

Ok cheers for that Stephen.

Just seen this over on the VM TIVO Community forum, So soon you will be able to see what we see.

Hello to all in the TiVo forum,

I hope you’ve been enjoying your next generation TiVo service. As we prepare to open the gates and allow all customers to purchase TiVo, we have decided to make some changes to our forum structure. From the 11th of April, this forum will no longer be private and any member of the Virgin Media community forum will have access to this area.

You won’t have to do anything different, but as we anticipate a lot more activity on this board going forward I wanted to prepare you for this. We think that you have done a fantastic job in creating a close-knit TiVo community, and I’m sure that you will welcome all those new to TiVo with open arms.

Thanks,
Alex
