Three years is a reasonable spell for anyone in the role. I like him as the Doctor but I wont lose any sleep if he goes next year. It won't be a scandal either.

I agree, he is a good doctor and I remember wondering what would happen when eccleston left. I am sure whoever takes over will do a fine job.

That time can't come quickly enough IMO. The series must get better story lines if it is going to survive.

I'm only surprised it wasn't canned after the last series.

Why is it a surprise? The ratings are still good, still comparable to the ratings of previous series.

Obviously it's just my opinion.

And you're entitled to it, but if you're surprised the series hasn't been cancelled, you must be surprised that so few people share that opinion.

Im still enjoying it, though not perhaps quite as much as 2/3 years ago. It has become slightly over complex at times IMO, I think someone mentioned this earlier - I cant follow whats going on sometimes.

As doctors go, Matt Smith is certainly not my favourite, but nor is he the worst. I think he babbles too much on occasions.

Not really, I've seen series that were far better than the current Dr Who series get canned or partially canned. F1 comes to mind.

Viewer numbers are not the whole story, there is also the cost factor. The current Who series looks to be relatively cheap to produce and so in the present economical clime may be on the back burner when it comes to the axe swinging.

Of course everything mediawise is extremely subjective.....

I cant understand why they cancelled last of the summer wine? Surely that was not expensive to make and it was still attracting 5 million viewers every week.

l agree that the LOTSW should have never been cancelled in my mind as it was still excellent watching as far as l was concerned.

I'm guessing it's because the cast had a nasty habit of shuffling off their mortal coils - they were probably spending millions on re-casting...

Again, you're trying to understand the process through the highly subjective prism of 'better'. What is 'better' though?

Doctor Who is by no means cheap to make. Back in 2005 it was costing about a million per episode. The whole production was re-tooled for HD a couple of years ago and is quite possibly now costing even more.

However, the series makes the BBC an absolute fortune in worldwide sales to other broadcasters and merchandising. Making profitable telly is not a core charter obligation on the BBC but it certainly helps keep those shows that are profitable on the air. Doctor Who's UK audience is as strong as ever and its commercial value is as strong as ever. On those bases, there is no danger of it getting canned any time soon, even if you think the last series wasn't very good.

Don't forget the cost of providing electricity and running water to that part of Yorkshire during the filming.....:D

Hmm a Doctor Who movie which has nothing to do with the series. Maybe a bad idea.

Could be good idea if it starred Ecclestone and explored the Timewar a bit more.

Except if you read the whole article it goes on to say:

Quote:

Last night a BBC source suggested that they had no idea about the episode.

The source said: "This is the first we have heard of it. We're being told there is no Christmas show."
So it's possibly not as clear cut as it first looks

Seems to be an argument between the producers and the BBC because the show itself has been decommissioned. Whether or not it was actually filmed or not is just one word against another.

Re: Doctor Who : Season 6

'Filming' Confidential means one cameraman/director wandering round the set with a camcorder. Whatever footage he has in the can, the cost of collecting it would be dwarfed by the post-production, which I'm quite sure hasn't been done yet.

As the BBC treats the Dr Who Christmas special as 'episode zero' of the new series rather than episode 14 of the old, it's reasonable to suspect they treat Confidential the same way. And as Confidential has now been cancelled, there is presumably no longer any budget for producing 'episode zero' of a seventh series.

Another total non-story whipped up into a frenzy by a red-top rag.
