I agree with west ham going down, but not so much present ownership. but past. I think the debts are £100m. Wigan as well for going down..after that I'm not sure. But I could see a surprise, eg newcastle getting a bad run of results, or one of the others. Once you lose touch, very hard to get back.

Interesting fact about Arsenal's Champions League opponents on Wednesday, Sporting Braga:

Quote:

Braga, who owe their Sporting Club tag to the better known Sporting Clube de Portugal, after whom they were named, have been known as Arsenal do Minho and changed their kits from green-and-white hoops to their Arsenal-style red in 1920 when their then-coach Jozef Szabo, following a trip to England and Highbury, ordered the club to adopt new colours to establish their own identity (Braga even renamed their youth team Arsenal do Braga). The emblem of Sporting de Braga is the city of Braga's shield with Mother Mary and baby Jesus. On the top of the emblem is the golden Mural Crown of Braga, with the name Sporting Clube de Braga on it. Many fans of Braga have said that Mother Mary gives them luck. The fans of Braga are known as Arsenalistas due to their teams uniforms that resemble that of English club Arsenal. They are also known as Bracarenses because of the Bracara Augustus region of Portugal that is now known as Braga.

Sensible Chairman: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2...-league-future (Gold and Sullivan take note)

Quote:

The chairman [Levy] has, however, moved to quell expectations and called for fans to be "realistic" about the prospects of the club remaining at football's top table in the long term, claiming only Manchester United and Chelsea are assured of a place in the league's top four every season.

Levy also said the Champions League is "not a gold mine" and pointed out that the £15m Spurs will make from competing in the group stages is merely the equivalent of a transfer fee for one player.
He is correct about it not being a gold mine, people come out with stupid statements about how much is made from Champions League football. He is also right to point out the difficulty of qualification and right not to spend as if top 4 will happen every year.

Me too, the poor sod.

Regarding my previous post..........

Why is it that Ferguson feels the need to pick these 3rd rate teams for a European game, If he feels the need to experiment, do it in the Carling Cup.

If I were Walter Smith I would be annoyed at the sheer contempt Fergie holds about the opposition, and as for the 75,000 attendance, I think I would want my money back.

That is weird. Champions League games should never be taken for granted. These are teams that are used to winning and have set themselves out in a way that benefits them in their leagues. The top teams often have the measure of them but underestimating any of them can backfire.

Birmingham away is not an easy game and Liverpool have had one of the toughest opening fixture lists I have seen. Arsenal, Man City away, Birmingham away and United is not something I envy them. United and Arsenal have had tricking opening games as well, but not that bad.

I used to work in Wimbledon until earlier this year and knew alot of AFC Wimbledon supporters.

They all said that AFC Wimbledon will never be able to make significant progress if they ever became a league club again. The problem they say is that the crazy gangs demise began when they were refused planning permission by the local authority for their stadium. This led to the move to Selhurst Park and then the exploitation that followed and eventually becoming MK Dons. It was inevitable that the crazy gang would end up outside the Wimbledon area and nothing has changed for AFC Wimbledon. Their ground will be severly restrictive in their climb up the leagues (should it happen) and apparently there is still no chance of AFC having a local ground that complies with the league requirements.

Uncle Peter 23-09-2010 14:44

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Should have won it no question, several of the players in last night's team are full internationals but it highlights a few serious issues which seem to be affecting the confidence of the whole squad:

1. In general the young/fringe players aren't good enough and in the face of being repeatedly "bigged up" on the club website/forums etc some appear to believe they're better than they actually are. Not the manager's fault but based on last nights comments playing down the better performers this is not going to do any favours for their confidence especially if they're to be called upon to fill in for injuries later in the season (IF he is still there).

2. Manager isn't good enough: desparate long-ball tactics foisted upon a team who have had possession football drilled into them season after season by the previous hierarchy, not just last night but this applies to all of the performances to date.

3. The lowering of standards, expectations and ambition which seems to be the key feature of the many interview's he's given to date: is not acceptable whether he likes the squad he's inherited or not. Perhaps the manager should direct more energy into coaching and managing the team than blabbing to the media.

4. Also, failing to defend Torres against Ferguson's ridiculous cheating allegation over the weekend is inexcusable. Seems he'd rather just bend over and take it from his best mate. Nice guy maybe but gutless and being gutless gets you nowhere at the top of the game.

It was on Talksport, it must be true then because they dont just come up with any old controversial rubbish to get people to phone in to cover for a lack of sports coverage do they and being a yid I'd have said you would normally say something like that, shame you chose to do it after he has just signed a new long term deal and on the day the club announced record profits + they play really decent football, you know like Spurs used to decades ago and they are considerably more successful than most other clubs.

Sorry? What was the Spurs score yesterday? Worry about your own team instead of Arsenal all the time, small club mentality or what.

Awful performance from Arsenal yesterday but certainly not a trend, bad results happen in a season.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Personally i think Mancini got his tactics pretty much spot on against Chelsea, obviously the players putting in high crosses wasn`t going to bring much fruition with the size of the players in the box but he did seem to tell them to keep it more on the deck in the second half.
Certainly stopping Chelsea from playing there flowing passing game worked especially in midfield where Essien, Malouda and Ramires weren`t given time or space to feed Drogba and Anelka. The same tactics have been used to nullify Barcelona recently.
If Chelsea had got the first goal City would have had to push on which would have freed up the Chelsea`s playmakers and it could have been 2 or 3 nil.

Cracking result for City, lets just hope they can push on from here and minimum get Champions league, at least they stopped the runaway train and gave Man U and Arsenal a chance to regain some ground (which Arsenal failed at miserably!).

I also am not a fan of playing De Jong and Barry together in the same team but it seems to work against the better teams. I just hope against teams we should beat he adopts a more attacking style ;)

A much needed result which should do the squad a world of good, watch us lose at home to Newcastle next, oh the joys of being a City fan

It is not all bad. From that article.......

Quote:

Should the bank opt for the former, it would put Kop Holdings at risk of going into administration, though Liverpool as a club is solvent. Though that would not automatically result in a nine-point penalty, as suffered by Portsmouth last season, Liverpool are the company’s only asset and, as such, the Premier League would be likely to examine the matter.
but it is bad enough, plus I did put "on the brink" not "are in administration. It is about time these mainly American leeches were banned taking over clubs with borrowed money.

RBS will in all likelihood not extend the loans thus taking control over the club. Apparently the lawyers are working out if this is possible without incurring the administration fee. However it may well be that they cannot do this and will be deducted 9 points.

So it is a real possibility within the next month.

Far from a non story but it is just a take on what we already know as the campaign to try and oust the existing owners gathers pace and the widely reported deadline to pay back a large chunk of the club holding company's outstanding debt looms. I can't think of another premiership club whom, like LFC are in imminent danger of defaulting their existing credit facilities though.

Red And White Kop is more hilarious than ever today.

I am suprised it took 6 games for the inevitable "Hodson Out" posts.

6 games? he should have been sacked straight after the Northampton humiliation. There are limits to how much of a chance you can give to someone.

it looks good to see them down there but being realistic one or two wins and they will be back up in the fiht for the top four. Depends on if they can get those wins though

Arsenal played well, we had a lot of the ball and played well. Chelsea won 2 - 0. Have to say well done them, I can't fault Arsenal today but Chelsea are too good. Title again I guess.

Liverpool bias on Talksport? that would be a first. I take it that's the first time you've listened to it then.

Anything to do with News Intl. (Talk Sport/Sky Sports) is best avoided. Talksport inparticular have gob.. sorry I mean people like Adrian Durham and Alan Brazil to make the rest of the morons they have on there appear to be remotely intelligent.

Then blame the manager as he cannot be doing his job properly.

You are not a world class team anymore. Doesn't matter what you used to be. Leeds were a top team once. Liverpool have no money and a weak squad.

punky 03-10-2010 21:33

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Roy Hodson isn't a bad manager.

He took a weak Fulham team from relagation material to the UEFA Cup Final.
He was the man everyone thought should have one Manager Of The Year instead of Redknapp.
He was on the cusp of taking the biggest job in England
He was the fans' choice.

You don't go from all that to useless in 6 games. The fans are notoriously fickle but even so they are taking the biscuit here. There are 6 points (that's 2 wins) between 4th and bottom of the league. And Liverpool have played Arsenal, Citeh and Man Utd in those 6 games.

Get a grip!

This.

Liverpool have 3 great players in a squad of 25-ish. Torres is made of balsa wood and only plays 1/3 of a season. Gerrard is great but only one man. Cole seems to be very inconsistent.

Liverpool needs to stop assuming they should be top 4 and start playing like they should be.

liverpool played a poor game yesterday they didnt deserve to win, as far as i can see they are not even trying, the manager needs to shake em up and yes they have some world class players in the likes of Torres and Gerrard but Cole is yet to prove himself. bring back Kenny lol

I think 'Gerrard = World Class' is very debatable. Not the same since Alonso left.

It's been poor for a couple of seasons but not this poor. Hodgson, bad manager? more like a case of wrong man for the job. Hodgson recently cited his 35 years of experience to justify his managerial ability and methods but the stark reality is that in 35 years he doesn't really have a great deal to boast about. Foisting defend deep, stand off and unload tactics on a team who have had a completely different mentality drilled into them under the previous regime is clearly going to do significant damage and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that's exactly what is happening.

There is enough ability in the current squad without bigging up individual names to justify a better quality of football than the drivel that's currently being served up. There is no excuse.
