Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Actually the BBC news feed has more, they asked the team and the team says that it's standard to run the paint on part of the day to confirm aerodynamics and currently there are no problems
|
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Yeah just seen that, I hope all is well
with McLaren |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
yes lots of teams use that paint in testing. It's when they run it on a race weekend like they did last year you want to worry.
Strangely this is Alquiresai's first F1 test despite taking part in half of last season . Although I still can't spell his name ! As the rules are the same for last year and this except the need for a bigger fuel tank I think McLaren will be one of the front runners |

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
I really don`t like the look of any of this seasons cars, to me they all look like Duck-Billed Platypus with the exception of maybe the Ferrari and the Jordan ( nay Renault) which the former is spoiled by having the front wing white and the Renault looks like a basking shark with wheels!
The williams looks okay but again it`s to bitty ;) Still it`s the racing that counts and with the new points system hopefully some good old fashioned overtaking... |

OK guys, can someone with more time than myself ;) post up a current list of who's driving for who and the teams also missing the drivers... If we have a complete list then I'll create a new poll thread (no point in doing it to this thread as last year the poll ruined the layout of the main discussion thread. Will do two (one for the drivers and another for the team championship) Will restrict the discussion in those threads to poll related topic only) Will also time the polls to end the day before the first practice :)

Virgin and Lotus are there with cars testing and doing ok. Campos is still a worry as they haven't paid the bill to Dallara for the car. Hope Campos do make it. Shame the FIA never went for prodrive or Stefan GP |

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
with hindsight the FIA should have let in Prodrive and Lola.
USF1 were announced over a year before they were due to come in and funded by either one of the google or yahoo people, forget which. They have now pulled out as have other sponsor due to the financial crisis. Not long until the first race and should be a good year with Button \ Hamilton in one team, against Alonso \ Massa and Webber \ Vettel. Only thing is in Mercedes there is really just Schumacher to score the top points which if the others take points off each other could help him out. |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
I think too many people are making too much a fuss over Schumacher. I really don't think he is up to competing with the current crop of Young Turks.

So how many teams ARE going to start?
They rejigged the points system so more places "pay", but without revaluing 1st versus second - 25-20 is the same ratio as 10-8, and if they end up with maybe only one more team than before, then the points reshuffle will have been - pointless. |

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Well I am very disappointed in this, it was just a glorified procession with no real excitement.
F1 should be about wheel to wheel racing but if the drivers are forced to play the conservation game then the FIA have comprehensively stuffed this sport. The drivers are forced to conserve their tyres but that was ok as they have always had to but they could risk it more by picking up a slip stream, use their skill to drive through the dirty air and be the last of the late braker’s to attempt a move as they knew they would pit 2/3 times a race, but now we saw Ferrari deliberately avoid this as they had to conserve their engines too as well as even more so their tyres. All this crap about the points system with a larger gap between 1st and 2nd to encourage the drivers to go for the win won’t work if the 1st race of the season is anything to go by, all we will see is the pole sitter sprint away and possibly the championship wrapped up early in the season. If this is the format of the season then bye bye F1 :td: |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
the thing is even during the refueling eras we still had a procession it's just with less stops there was less so called changes of position.
My main problem with F1 at the moment is all the computers and sensors they have on the cars. We see too often drivers checking what their team mate does and then learning they can brake later for a corner etc, or even worse the engineers who don't even drive the car tell a driver that due to the data they can brake later for a corner. I'm sure if you took that away you would get more of the human side back in F1 and that would help get more racing |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
The main problem is that the main teams are so adept at getting 99.9999% out of the technical specs and the drivers are 99.9999% clinical in thier driving that unless something goes wrong the procession is the end result.
It's not the FIA's fault that the teams and drivers are so good.. Probably the only way the FIA could go is to reduce the technology and technical involved (for example ban fuel injection, computers, remove spoilers/wings/diffusers, reduce the tyre contact patch and harden up the compounds..) Only then might you start getting some variance in not only cars but also driving techniques |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Quote:
They should just strip the car of all electrical aids, get rid of the semi-automatic gear box's too. They should reduce the amount of wing allowed too, and ban all these fancy wing diffusers that really churn the air up. Drivers should be drivers, not passengers. |

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
They should bring back Turbos.
Mansell Honda williams could wheelspin in all 6 gears. The main problem, is the cash restrictions that are imposed on the teams. |

Something that to me seems odd is that whenever i watch an Indy Car race, whether it be on an oval or `proper` track the action seems to be a lot better with the cars seeming to be able to travel close behind one another without it messing things up (and they still have rear wings, etc).
There is a lot more overtaking and it`s just generally more exciting as a whole package. Why can they get it right whereas Formula 1 chops and changes all the time with the promise of improved action which never comes to fruition. At the moment the most iconic motorsport brand is being turned into an egomaniacs farce! :td: |

F1 is all about being the most advanced sport in the world but if it takes away the enjoyment from it then whats the point bring back the day of senna, prost, mansell even my fav Nikolaus Lauda (only cos i've met him!!) those where the days of real racing drivers  |

put more tyre changes in preferably bring back refuelling ( yes i know they designed these cars to go the distance )
standardise the rear wing ( that is give them all the same one ) maybe front one too anything that makes it more interesting than this will watch the next one to see if it is any better but if it isnt i might be going out on sundays and finding something more interesting instead ;) |
