Nope, they'd be heading north, north east if it was the BBMF, plus only one of these were in standard camoflague

also seen quite a few Apache's Puma's, Lynx and Merlins flying about here (Northampton) |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
That'll be after they head north from here.. yep forgot to mention the chinooks, quite impressive when they're banking low over the village..
Problem is that when they're low you never have enough time to grab the camera Here's some I posted in another thread in January http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/at...7t-chinook.jpg |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
yesterday saw a B52 flying over my home.... scary sight I'll post the picture of it later on... its on my phone and I'm at work :(
|
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
the b52 was at farnborough, so probably doing a few smaller shows before heading home
|
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
OH WOW!!! First one I've ever seen in real life.. A Catalina just flew over from DUxford direction towards Fairford direction
:D :D :D |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
I was in the park with my Nephew & Niece, and I saw an Apache Longbow fly overhead, made one hell of a racket.
|
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Just found out that it's the Catalina based at Duxford, it's on a Duxford>Culdrose with it coming back on the 29th, will see if perhaps I can get the video camera ready for the return :D

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Question for you lot..
Just had a small jet (circa late 40's <> 50's) fly over head.. Size was about the same as a provost, swept back wings, twin engine (under wing nacelles) and likely to be based/visiting Duxford as it came from that direction.. Any ideas?? ---------- Post added at 14:12 ---------- Previous post was at 14:09 ---------- Just wondering if it was underwing engines and not tanks instead.. In that case it could have been a Hawker Hunter |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
swept wing design eh any other things standing out on it or too far away to see it properly
|
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
More like too fast overhead, 400mph at VFR level doesn;t give you a lot of time :)
|

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
hmm could be quite a few jets that are towards the discription.... my guess is that it could be a F-80 shooting star as the other guess is a ME262 but dont know if any of those are still in flying conditions
---------- Post added at 17:28 ---------- Previous post was at 17:19 ---------- just had a look at Duxford and some other sites and cant find any airshows with vintage jets on them for around this weekend. |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Duxford is used as a private field for those with vontage aircraft quite often.
I'd say that it definately wasn't a meteor/me262 (wings were more swept) and that it was more like the Hunter with the drop tanks |

Pylons..
|
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
There are the Supermarine Swift or Scimitar, which are similar to the Hunter, but I don't know if any are airworthy?
Could it have been American - e.g. an F86 Sabre? |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
De Havilland aviation are operating a Hunter and a Gnat out of Bournemouth so if what you saw were ferry tanks Kymmy it could possibly have been one of those. The gnat is in red arrows colours though so I guess you would have mentioned if it was that.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
definately not a gnat... The paintwork was a light color (blue or silver)..
Definately Hunter shape/size |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Hubby suggests an F86 Sabre as there is one based at Duxford.
Apparently it quite regularly displays at Old Waden. The evening Battle of Britain flight-show is this Saturday and not too far from you! |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
If I had to choose 2 possibles then the Hunter and Sabre would win.. Will look out for it again in the future, thanX guys :)

Cool - but how the hell did you get into the cockpit - or is that artistic licence with a zoom lens?? ;-)

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Being nice to the staff and asking. Obviously since 9/11 you can't go in during flight but once in Paris, they said 'be quick but you can go have a look up there.'
The pilots were great too. Very happy to talk to me. |
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
nice photos of the little critter matey so where are the shots of the interior
|
Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Not a plane, but just watched a Sparrow Hawk take a House Sparrow from the shed wall beside the kitchen. Amazingly quick. Prior to this the sparrows were being bullied by a Song Thrush & were eating the ants from the gravel whilst carefully avoiding the Starlings further up the garden.

A UPS 747 has gone down just outside Dubai Airport - we were FaceBooked about it by some friends of ours who live in the Emirate Airways residences (the planes fly over their houses after take off), and saw it go down. As most of the people who live there are aircrew or their families, you can imagine how they feel. As our friend said Quote:

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
I managed to see these in the distance yesterday, getting ready for the Duxford "Battle of Britain" Air Show....
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...010/09/105.jpg I am assuming that is what I saw as they were a way off in the distance, but flying in formation. The Air show resumes tomorrow, but today there were a few problems getting to Duxford apparantly.... http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Home...sappointed.htm Here is a list of aircraft on display http://duxford.iwm.org.uk/upload/pdf..._31_August.pdf |

I have worked in cargo aviation, and there is a list of banned items.
One of them made me laugh "pistachio nuts" as when they start to go manky they give of a gas that can explode. (Was mentioned on QI). If the batteries are to blame then freights SOP need to be looked at to reduce the cargo holds temp. |

Yeah I've been hearing eveything from it being a suspected bomb to it being a printer cartridge.
That is my local airport and I often see the UPS planes coming in. Let's hope this reminds everyone not to reduce the security at airports. |

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
you would've thought the '16 pilot would try to take off before the b1 or even just get the hell outta his way.
Think the '16 does handle well as it does stay on its wing after the take offs and I bet you that pilot has lost its wings or part of rank or his new nickname changed to wingtip. |
