Its good news week :D
SG6 area

Well its happened as advised by uni just went to http://www.ntlworld.com/data-feeds/.../tierMigration/ clicked on upgrade your modem then on upgrade to 750 or 150 what ever speed you are on, it then asks you to log in with username and password. That done I had the option to upgrade my speed to 2mb from 750 after an auto reboot I'm on 2mb

Did not see an option for the people on 300

What happens if I reach my usage allowance?

Over the next 12 months, ntl will provide tools to allow customers to measure their data usage. When these tools are available, customers who approach their data allowance will be able to choose to

reduce their data usage for the remainder of the month
upgrade to a tier of service with a higher usage allowance
pay for usage above their allowance.

Until these tools are available, ntl will monitor usage but not apply the 3GB allowance, except in cases where heavy use is affecting network performance.

The allowance covers data sent (uploaded) to the Internet or received (downloaded) from the Internet by your cable modem.

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)

We have one of the original Business Essentials Cable modems, currently on 1.5 Meg speed. No sign of any upgrade in speeds here in Shepshed for that modem and no mechansim I know of, such as a web page, to upgrade.

Phoned Business customer support and they know nothing about a plan to upgrade Business Cable modems, he seemed to think the increase from 1 to 1.5 MB was new!

Anybody know if and when business cables modems will get the speed increase, please?

Nope because the upgrade reboots the cable modem which then downloads via tftp a new cable modem config file so it can run at a different speed.

CS might not have known exactly what was happening (only bbking would know that) but they where bob on the right track as they do need to send a refresh code to the modem to make it reset.

Have seen the like to the upgrade site on NTLWorld.

This only applies to Cable Modem customer, the link for STB customers states that this method of upgrade is not available.

Anyone know how STB customers get the upgrade - do we have to sit and wait or try and phone NTL and see if we can get somone that knows at least as much as everyone on this forum.

Currently on 750k with a Samsung STB in WA5 postcode (ex-CWC).

I have said this before but still people are saying they can't upgrade. If you try and upgrade through the web browser and it comes up with an error or wont let you do it. Just ring customer service on 0800 052 2000. If they say it is not available tell them "You know several people who have had their connection upgraded through C/S this morning and to check again/ask supervisor". The new codes are available on the system.

Then leave it about an hour if it doesnt automatically change reboot your cable modem and you should have been upgraded.

I could not upgrade through the browser but im now surfing at 3mbps.

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)

About two weeks ago I upgraded to the 750k service. Now ntl don't seem to want to let me have the 2mb upgrade. :erm:

Error You have already changed the speed of your cable modem since your last bill. We regret that becuase of the nature of cable modem billing, it will not be possible to change your level of service until your next bill has been processed. If you require further assistance please contact customer services. If you need further help, please contact our customer support (0800 052 2000).

When you call customer support, you may be asked for the following information: Application ntl: Broadband Internet - Connection Speed Upgrade Date & Time 08/03/2005 at 09:31 Your username ***_******* Your Cable Modem Mac Address 00:**:**:**:**:** Your Surname
Your Postcode

So, firstly does anyone know why ntl's billing system has this limitation? I can see that they don't want people jumping tarifs the whole time but I'm staying on their second tier of service (i.e., I'll be paying them the same amount every month). I had assumed this upgrade would be similar to the last one where a simple reboot was all that was needed.

Secondly, will CS be able to help or am I wasting my and/or their time this early on in the upgrade process?

[Oh and hello everyone, I'm new, though I've lurked for ages]

I don't see anything in the poll to distinguish between CM & STB.

Hey Everyone,

Just to point out there is now something official on NTL's website:

http://www.home.ntl.com/page/broadbandexisting

They do say though that you should wait and the upgrade would be automatic....

Phil.

I may just go for the 1MB service and pay a couple more £ a month for extra bandwidth.

I couldn't upgrade on the website and rang customer services. The lady said hold on I'll do it for you now, she came back about a minute later and said you'll be upgraded in the next few weeks. I told her I'd just spoken to people who'd been upgraded. She started to get uppity then hung up. <Mod Edit (Chris T) Needless insulting comment removed>.

just got off the phone with many different operators (with 4 out of 5 not knowing about the increase!), the last chap told me he had now found out about the increase and had sent the new config file to my cm and told me to reboot both pc and cm... i have and update still not happened for me in Stockport area. Does it happen virtually straight away or can it take a bit of time?

Read through the topic, if you call CS they will upgrade you. Just be persistant with them.

On 300k service, checked website and it only gives option to upgrade to 750k or 1.5Mb.

The postcode checker on the http://www.home.ntl.com/page/usagefaq tells me I can't even get broadband. :bigcry: :bigcry:

However, using the link https://autoreg.autoregister.net/cgi..._tiermigration it allowed me to upgrade so I am now on the 1Mb service :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Hi,

The link is for both new and existing customers, clicking on the link and following the instructions will upgrade your speed on the spot.

Calling customer services will also get you upgraded.

Other than that you can wait till your config file is sent to you but lets be honest with a million customers to upgrade theres no one gonna guarantee that you'll get it today. They will be rolling this one out slowly if anything just to watch the impact it has on the network and the customer services.

1 million people cannot be upgraded at the same time just the same as customer services will not be able to take 1 millions calls from people wanting to upgrade. Ntl always have and always will have to stagger upgrades on dtv and broadband due to the size of their network.

I'm on an STB, no upgrade here, Can't use that page to upgrade either, it says you need to have a cable modem, it does say that you can call them though.

Looks like stb users are second class citizens again, I guess we will be paying the same for a lower service for another few months like last time :(
